Plaid Patriotic Buckeye Quilt and !! Finished ( or not) Friday!!!

Wednesday Morning we woke up - and I tried to turn the water on - to no avail! Our Well Pump had died. For some reason that just threw off my whole day , and seemed to get my morning off to a rough start - I had to brush my teeth without water...

Well not totally true - we do have a lot of bottled water that we save and refill quite often - just in case. When the power goes out we also have no water.

I also still had 2 quilts of valor to wash for the next presentation... that flustered me..

So I went quilting!!

I made this Plaid Patriotic Diamond Chain quilt - ( or Buckeye Beauty) and I think it was time to quilt it up!!! I Love plaid.... its just awesome!

Now you knew - i was going to have to make the girls pose! They are really getting the hang of it, and I believe they think it is expected anymore haha

It has been cloudy and overcast - but when I went to take photos the sun was so bright - it got hard to see the quilting pattern.... But yay!! this will go off to the binder... and bam!! one more will be ready to roll!

Just for fun - this is the hay field - doesn't it look so cool? ahh maybe not as cool in a photo as it is  in person - but the circles, I thought that would be a cool quilting design.

now it is your turn!! Link up your favorite post from this week and show us what you finished (or not)

Patriotic Diamond Chain / Buckeye Beauty Blocks

You saw our last State QOV block  - the little log cabin. Those quilts are going to be great!

Our next block drive block we will be doing is the Buckeye Beauty / Diamond Chain Block.

I have been taken over!!! I started one of these with some of my Plaid squares, and then we saw Cynthias similar block and then... I got to thinking... wouldn't it look great in Patriotics ....

So I dug into my trusty 5 inch square bin. I got a little wild hair - I wonder if I can piece enough blocks to make one in all Plaids????

I am digging it - and by using it as leader/enders on my other projects - look what I came up with so far!!

I'm loving it!!!

You use all 5 inch squares - so easy - here is the tute:

Diamond Chain/ Buckeye Tutorial

What is the Over/Under on if I can piece a WHOLE quilt out of plaids? ( with a few eagles for good measure thrown in?)

A 16 Patch Finish!! and ! Finished ( or not) Friday!!!

Back in January when Green was the Rainbow Scrap Challenge color - I pulled out some 16 patches an threw them on the deigns wall.

In my head they had a lot of green in them... In reality... they did NOT!!

But! Since they were out, they were on the wall, and my goals is to not put anything away! I stitched them into a top and now

Said Top is Quilted!!!

Ta da!!! Finished!!!

And now it is your turn!!

Pastel Plaids and ... Finished ( or not) Friday

My Pastel Plaids has been moved forward!!!

In October I went down a Quilting hole and saw the St Louis  16 patch tutorial from Sew Fresh Quilts - and I wanted to play.. and so !! I did!!!

I had some time to put this baby on the Longarm - crank up my George Strait Tunes... it was DEFINETLY a George Strait kind of moment... and

Ta Da!!

I think it ended up about 42 x 56 inches .

It was some FUN quilting too!!!

Don't ask where it is going - it had no real reason to be created other than I wanted to - so it may have to sit a bit before it finds its forever home.... who knows where that might be...

and now it is time for your part in the show!!!
Show us what you have Finished ( or Not) this week.
Please use your direct link

Have fun visiting all the great finishes posted here too!!

16 Patches that are not green... on the design Wall

Green was the ( is the?) Color for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge for January. Did you notice that I figured out how to turn my headers Green?  and now I need to figure out how to make them Red ( Februarys Color)

I have been working on my Lightening Streak in Green, but if you know me - QDD sets in way too easily and I started looking thru some of my blocks....and they had a green piece or two in there.

So I thought I would put them on the design wall and have another Quilt for the RSC this month.

There is just not that much green.

Since the blocks were already up there, there really is no reason WHY I should put them back right? So I might have this in the process of being Rowed already....

However... I don't think this will put me in the GREEN category for this month 🤣😂🤣

Playing in the Plaids

I got back to my fast easy 16 patch blocks - and !

Ta da!!

Well - the wind sure doesn't help me take photos - but! I made 12 blocks - and I think it is a cute sized quilt.

These are all shirt plaids. A while back in my yonder years, I owned a clothing company. It has since been sold, sold again and now has a new name - but!! I started it haha!! ( I was the first Maternity Clothing company on the internet!!!)

But back then... when you sampled fabrics, they would send you a swatch of the fabrics to see if you liked them - and one of my manufacturers loved to send me 1/2 or whole yards... and I did not complain.

When I sold the company I got to keep the samples - and ta da!! My Plaid stash was born!!!

now!! it is my duty to use them ! ( right?  I mean I can use that as an excuse to not do laundry right???)

Enjoy!!!

Playing in the Plaids .... again

A while back I was browsing my blogs, and it led me down a quilt hole .. and I ended up here:

https://sewfreshquilts.blogspot.com/2014/09/st-louis-16-patch-quilt-block-tutorial.html

It got me thinking, and planning, and you know.... I am always looking for fun, fast, easy quilts to try....So I thought - hey that 4 inch measurement sounds like it could make a fast quick quilt.

So I dug into my plaid box and started playing , and then it snowed, and then my dog wanted to play, and then my dog wanted to play again, and then my dog wanted to run in the snow, and then it was too cold so I took her into the barn to play , until I wore her out -she took a 30 min nap in the mudroom... and what???

What happened to the quick quilt?

I got 8 of the 12 blocks I wanted to get done... done...

The others are in some stage of getting done, Did you know that Puppies think that Foot pedals are toys? and that binding is just a long fun piece of string to play with?

These blocks finish at 14 inches and If I did my math right... I will have a 40 x 54 ish sized top. or I may make it 16 blocks - and have is 54 ish squared...

This is the first snow since we have had Bella - and Oh My Gosh - she loved it once she figured out she didn't need to eat it, and if she licked it  - it disappeared.... what a goof ball she is ;-)  She is also fun to throw snowballs to  - she tried to catch them.

and DON'T FORGET ... here on Fridays is a Link up - Finished (or not) Friday!!

A Flannely Finish and !! Finished ( or not) Friday!!

Happy Friday you all!!! This week just came up quick didn't it?

One of my sons was visiting and I said - Hey - what is Today... and he said Thursday - and I went oh boy!!! Tomorrow is Friday... and guess what? Tomorrow is already here!!!

Hope everyone had a great week!

I did manage to sneak a finish in!!!

The sun was setting when we took these and the skies were just SO pretty... but its sometimes hard to get a photo of the quilting this way...

But I tried.... and maybe you can see a little of it -

I used a Wild animal print on the back - I thought maybe it would give it that woodsy, cabin vibe.... it has canoes, tents, moose, and outdoorsy stuff on it

We also finished loading the pod and now it resides at my house, One of my sons came back from overseas, so I got to pick him up at the airport - flight delays and all... so glad he is back for a bit!  and we took all the shreddables to be shredded ... I have to say that is quite a chore, and a drive - but it felt good to get that done. We might have gotten another surprise this week too... but that one will have to wait...

Because!!!

It is now your turn to Brag!! Show off those finishes.. ( or not!!)  and let us see all the good things!!

The Scrappy Plaid!!! and! Finished ( or not) Friday!!

I am pretty sure that every Quilt has a story, but sometimes I actually remember the story of the quilts!! and I just have to tell you!!!

So!!

Back in 2019 - I led a Mystery called * the Marvelous Mystery * It was designed by Linda https://artinsearch.blogspot.com/ and she allowed our group to do it!! it was awesome

Isn't this a great one?

For each of those chisel blocks on the border... if you do the no waste thing - you get a bonus half square for every chisel...

and what is a girl to do with the bonus??

Oh that's right!! Add them to a PILE!!!

Let them ferment a bit, and then!!

PULL THEM OUT again....

along with a pile of strips and strings and more plaid.

And you start using said Half square as the start of a new block.... you can tell its the evening time... see the sunset colors starting to creep in ( sure you say... go with that.....)

The blocks start to grow, and you had no real idea of where they should go, but you are having fun....

You lay it out on the design wall and you fall in LOVE with the wonkiness, the randomness and because you are a PPP...

You put it back in a pile... but this time... you have the rows pinned - because you KNOW you will come back to it.... tomorrow you say....

Well GUESS WHAT!!!

I am no BACK TO IT!!!
Oh ya!!

and are you ready??

Because it is MORE THAN A TOP.....

It is a Topped, Quilted and... wait for it... a BOUND quilt finish!!!

And it is still random. and I still love it, and .... I need a bigger house for all these plaid quilts haha!!

I also took a Black and white photo, because it sort of intrigued me - the color play and I thought maybe I could see if , even in its randomness, I had some sort of color scheme....

Pretty sure I didn't... but it sure looks cool!!!  - Hmmmm Maybe a Black and white quilt is in my future!

and now...it is what you have all been waiting for.....
Finished!!! ( or not) Friday!!!!!

I do sleep well at night.... I started taking this:

Melatonin - Have you ever tried it?  I do one gummy... usually go lock the doors, brush my teeth... and in about 20 minutes I am dozing off.

The end of my Plaid Crumb Blocks.... for now

 The Design Wall:

From My Little Bin of Plaid scraps .... I can not believe how many things came from such a small box...

Which really makes me worry, as I have some Large boxes of fabric and I may be in for it!!!

I already made this quilt top with my crumbs:

For this one I pulled the Half squares and longer strings....

But I just couldn't stop there....

I also made the crumb Blocks for this one....

and now... I have 25 more crumb blocks up on the design wall.

I will come up with a setting for them, or something - you will have to stay tuned. I am sure a great design will come to me in the middle of the night, and I will jump out of bed and head to the sewing machine and annoy my dog...

Oh!! and there is still one more project that I am eeking out of the box..... and then I will close the lid until the scraps multiply again...

Want to see the eeking project?????

Are you sure???

Hourglass Blocks... in Plaid ( sigh... such love)

each of these blocks are 4 inches so that is not going to make a very big quilt - but, I think I will sew it like this and see if some amazing border ideas come to me?

I think with just these it will be about 38 x 45 inches.... Stay Tuned..... it may be something entirely different!!

Plaid Pile Project quilts and !!! Finished ( or not) Friday!!!

Yep. I am still working thru the piles.... this pile of plaids ( the PPP quilts) I found in October and ended up with two quilt tops.... and now!!

The Finishes!!

Number one!

Please note.. It is bound.... oh ya!!! and it is plaid ....

and Number two!!!

These were fun and fast - kind of Lasagna Quilt Style ( Atkinson designs) and kind of Jelly Roll Race...

They used the whole pile of fabrics I had out, and each quilt can out to be 50 x 54 inches - so not super big, lap sized? maybe.

Are you ready for the outtakes??

I had visions of the gorgeous mountains behind us, and the plaids just glowing in the sun...
and the wind....

Well - it had other ideas.... so

we had to find some sheltered places instead. Which was fine. By the way - we hiked here this day... and the temps said 35 - but the temps forgot to remind me of the wind chill... I am not sure it was above 7 deg with the wind!! But it was gorgeous!!

It is now your turn to brag!!!
