Block Robin went to the Fair - and ! Finished ( or not) Friday

 Happy Friday Quilters!!!

My Block Robin Quilt!! It was finished and it went to the FAIR!!!

This one started in 2025 - my Guild members ( 6 of us on my team) Did a Block Robin exchange. We each chose a block we wanted to have made, some provided fabric, others gave fabric color ideas and we started our exchange. I wanted scrappy Blocks ( You can read about it here )

I took my blocks and added some more to come up with this quilt ^   and then!!! It went to the fair. It got second place in its class. And I have no clue how many were in the class - I wasn't able to go!! I ended up traveling back east and missed the whole thing.

Thankfully my friend picked the Quilt up for me!

I even added a little Applique Heart on it - for all the love we put into it !

These were really fun blocks to make, and I really thought it would help use up all my scraps as well as my fellow quilters.

it did not.

We can all do it again ;-)

How did your week go?  I almost got caught up on mail, did not get caught up on laundry, and I even made a meal from scratch ( that wasn't leftovers or burgers haha)

Leftovers

A while back I made quilt a few of those gingham/Buffalo Plaid quilts. and I had some leftovers.

since I am clearing my piles, it was time to address these. I might should have addressed them to one of you - but! I put them up on the design wall and played around with them

This is what I came up with:

And then I stared at it for a long time. And then I decided that I liked the way the lights and darks played with each other. and Then I decided - Just put it together.

And so I did. Its not very big, but Our local Hospice likes bright smaller lap quilts - I think that this will probably go there when its quilted ( and bound)

Quilting has bee so fun - and much cooler that outside - I think I showed you the tractor on my last baby quilt.

And then this one - I have been thinking of what I want to quilt on the Dinosaur quilt I made my son - so I tested this one on a client quilt. I think it kind of looks like a Dinosaur jungle...

We will see what he thinks!!

I feel like  a Quilter on a mission to finish up these things that I have piled, but while I am working on them - I am finding that I am thinking of the *next* project.

Its a problem 😄😄😎

Block Robin Blocks

This year in my guild ( Pieceable Friends)  I hosted a Block Robin - Sort of a Round robin, but you chose a block you wanted Quilters to make, and we sent the boxes around. At the end - you have a box of Blocks.

I chose Scrappy ones - because I am on a mission to use Them All!!!!

Our Original boxes came back to us last Tuesday - and here is what was in my box!! * Squeeee***'

The ones in the bottom right --- have HORSE SHOES in them!!!

Aren't they just a gorgeous mix of color!!!
I then added all the scrappies I had made:

I need a bigger design wall... and a way to hide the mud room from my photos --- oops haha!!

I then started playing with layouts - this was the first one -

I tried to do them in diagonal rows - but I couldn't use them all so .. back to the wall:

I sort of added them randomly to the bottom - sort of trying to match colors... and then I stared at it for a bt - I really wasn't a fan - it was too -.... Jumbly.....

Back to the wall!!!
I started color grouping and this is what I came up with!!

It uses 90 of the 93 blocks and I have  starter seeds for the next scrappy one!! - K walked in and said - Oh I LOVE that - so in my world... its a go!!!

Now I just need to row it, and make sure the doggies don't wag their tails to close to blow a block off the wall!!!

The other projects I started

May take me 42 million years!!!

I started a King Size Deco Quilt... KING!! people!!! KING!!!!

I am the queen of 60 x 80 inch quilts - How did I decide to make a KING??

Anyways - I got the first 54 blocks done for it:

54 - 8 1/2 inch square blocks... All squared.... Trimmings in the Dog bed bag:

THIS!!! is why I wanted a new rotary blade!!!
That is A LOT of trimming..

But wait!!
Jessica Vaughn of JMV Quilts came to our guild to give us a trunk show. She also Taught a Scrap Mastery workshop the day of the meeting and I went!!

She said to bring scraps and so I did - who knew most of mine would be Patriotic?? 😆😆

She worked with us on a great way to trim your scraps into usable sizes and then taught us a few blocks - She taught us the one on the right and the one on the bottom. Connie Brought me the one on the left as an idea for one of our QOV Sew days......

But Wait!!!
Our Guild is making I Spy Quilts for the Kids - and she asked us all to make some blocks - so I found my trusty kid box and dug in - I made 12 Blocks for our Guild Chair Person

but wait!!!
At our guild we also started a Round Robin Block Exchange - so once I got my *box* from the person in my exchange group - I dug in right away to make her blocks

Super cool 9 patches with batiks - she wanted bright colors - I hope I did the job!!They will be passed on at the next meeting and I will get another persons box ;_0

Now you know all the million projects I started... and of course - there will be more!! thats the way my brain functions  - on overload Haha!!

Also - I had a competition on the weekend - and I got a 2 Fer: ( its a short 5 second video)

Po Tay To ish Chip quilt finish - and !! Finished ( or not) Friday

Happy Friday!!!!

In December, I decided it was time to play with my 2 1/2 inch scraps and see what I could do. I really liked the look of those Potato Chip Quilts - so that is the idea I started with.

We all know me though - and know that lazy is a part of my game - and as I got started I wondered why I was cutting the scraps up - and not just using what I had - so.... this became the PoTayTo ish quilt.

Now!! PoTayTo ish is done!!!!              ( and I still have a 2 1/2 inch pile of strips/scraps!😖)

I had a hard time finding a good place to take the photo - the snow was everywhere - EVEN on my beautiful fake green grass.... so I tried to find a snow spot that the dogs hadn't ran thru yet....

I quilted some fun Paisleys on it - and the backing was this blue.  I really Really like this backing fabric - I wonder if I could find more?  wait... My goal is to use things - LET IT GO....

I had better stop that line of thinking... but man I really do like it!

PoTayTo ish turned out to be 64 x 80 ish - so it is perfect for a Quilt of Valor - and!! one of my stitching friends has already taken it to bind!! Whoop Whoop!!!

I know you all want to see my girls - they really are the stars of the show these days!! We are working on double commands - telling them to both do something, and then calling one to do something else while the other stays.... were about 50/50 in our success rate at this time.....

And now it is your turn to be the STAR!!!!

Direct Link up your post

and enjoy all the eye candy!!!

Buffalo Plaid 16 patch FINISH!! and !!! Finished ( or not) Friday!!!

In October - I went Treasure Quilting.. what a fun place to DIVE into - haha - like treasure divers!!!

And I came up with a cute Buffalo Plaid 16 patch quilt - that is now FINISHED!!!

I really really really like how this one turned out - and of course, may just have to do some more Treasure Quilting!!!! - I just meandered on it - cuz it was fun!! and GUESS WHAT!!

It was gifted at a Baby Cowboy Baby shower already - GO ME!!!

Oh!! Because the colors of the University of Wyoming are Brown and Gold.... so Brown fit the bill, plus they are decorating in Browns and cowboys - so CHECK out that back!!!!

ITS BUCKING BRONCOS!! haha!!!

Now since you all know me, and know how much I love to bind..... you may remember that my kid made me these really cool binding ladders - so I ACTUALLY made the binding before I quilted it.... I am sure that is what brought the polar vortex this way...

But look how nice it keeps the binding, it doesn't flop all over the place - if I have to step away for a moment I am not tripping over any of the binding - LOVE it!!!

I'm told more are bieng made, as we sold out on the last batch!!

And Now it is the part of the show where you BRAG!!!
Please link up your direct post

Po tah to - Po tot o - Potato Chips or the Whole Potato?????

There has been a trend that I have been seeing  - on blogs and socials... about the Potato Chip Block!!

I've seen it before, but this time - I paid attention - and I love them and I have scraps, and I have made a goal to clean up the piles around my sewing machine before adding to them.

So the Potato Chip block seemed like a way to go with my 2 1/2 inch scraps sitting on a paper plate....

until....  I realized I didn't want to cut the pieces into the little ones - I wanted to use the WHOLE potato!!

So I did - sort of!! Some of my scraps were squares, and some were strips - so I started with the smallest pieces to make the center.  Then worked the lights in - I had so many scraps I Didn't even need to CUT any!!!   Crazy....

I did trim tho - at each round - just in case!!!

The blocks were growing....
The men took over the Turkey cooking, and the pie making, and so I could keep stitching.....

and I Finished all the blocks!!! Whoo hoo... But wait? Is there still fabric left on that plate? There is!! *sigh*  However NONE of it is Red or Blue any more!!!

I am going to call that a win!  But I also have figured out why those piles don't shrink!!! Scraps make scraps , and Alycia has a Piling problem......

off to tackle another pile..... ( there is plaid in that pile tho... so its good!)

Don't forget to mark your calendars this year for Finished (or not) Fridays on this blog!! Come brag about your week - show us what you are up to!!

Gratitude 22, a Scrappy Quilt and!! Finished ( or not) Friday!

I would maintain that Thanks are the highest form of thought, and the Gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder - G Chesterton  Taken somewhere in Northern Colorado while hiking

Several years ago - I got a call from a quilter. She said she had fabric that she needed to donate, sell , and move out of her house. Could I help? I loaded 2 of the 3 boys and we headed over to her house. She had a lot.... we sorted, and donated, and sold, and I don't want to do that again 😅

When we were getting to the end of her piles she wanted us to go thru, she pulled out some already completed Quilt tops - super scrappy ones. The fabrics were so fun. They are all probably 60-80's based on her stories about them

She was in a wheel chair/scooter and was not going to be able to finish them, so she handed them to me and said - Can you quilt them and get them to someone to love?

I Quilted the first one and took it back to her. I quilted the second one, and kept it. Me and Puppy just loved it. Now Bella gets to look at it on my lap. She is not quite as gentle as Puppy was. but I have faith - she will get there......

and now this is the third one. I quilted it with BIG hearts all over it!!

It is washed and ready to find its home. This photo was taken during sunset. Its amazing how the colors change - the other two were in full sunlight on a different day.

That is my finish for this week. So next week is Thanksgiving week. We will SKIP FONF on the 29th of November, but have plenty of room for TWO link ups on December 6th

I hope that works for you!!!  And How many of you are jumping in on the Bonnie Hunter Mystery? I have seen some of your posts - I am still on the fence.... but..... I sometimes just have to start way m ore things that is prudent!!

Gratitude 18 and Crumb Blocks

Opening your eyes to more of the world around you can deeply enhance your gratitude.

This was in Rocky Mountain National Park, after a great hike - and those are my husbands feet, He was threatening to throw me in so I took out my camera so he would remember he didn't want to replace it.

I got a wild idea... I have a scrap box at the side of my sewing table. For some reason I decided it was time to sort it. I think It might have had to do with the fact that my husband wanted to move some panels.... and I didn't want to - so I had to look busy.

I found enough Greens or greenish looking fabrics to make 14 -  8 1/2 inch crumb blocks!!

and then I saw a stack of things in a cubby.  Note to self - NEVER LOOK IN THE CUBBY!

I have more orphan blocks...

Happy Monday!

Buckeye Beauty, Jewel Box and oh!! look a Squirrel!!!

I might have told my Husband that Cynthia needed these blocks for her block drive - and that I was the ONLY one that could make them ( in this house) and because he doesn't always hear me.... I got to sew... uninterrupted. It did help that  Broncos football was on TV...

Blocks are winging her way!!

I have growth on my Buckeye Beauty blocks. I decided that had to be their name. My Dad was a Die Hard Michigan College football fan - so what better way to tease his legacy than by having a Buckeye in the house . ( If you don't know - its cuz Ohio and Michigan were bitter rivals during his time, I have no idea if they still are or not, because well - football haha)

And I already have a favorite Block:

SQUIRREL!!!!
My friend called and said she was getting rid of some fabric - did I want it? So she dropped it off, and I looked at it - and immediately pulled out these Crazy fat Quarters. I added white and that hot pink in the center.... and oh boy!!!

This one was not on my list. Remember the list that I so carefully made and was determined to stick to. Sure, you know me too well.....

At least its cute , right?

And then - I got to go pick apples! Our apple trees have gone NUTS!! I have about 8 pie fillings already made. There are still more apples on the tree!!! If you need me today, I will probably still be peeling and cutting apples.... And quilting and Walking dogs... I am starting a new walking challenge ...hmmmm
