Po tah to - Po tot o - Potato Chips or the Whole Potato?????

There has been a trend that I have been seeing  - on blogs and socials... about the Potato Chip Block!!

I've seen it before, but this time - I paid attention - and I love them and I have scraps, and I have made a goal to clean up the piles around my sewing machine before adding to them.

So the Potato Chip block seemed like a way to go with my 2 1/2 inch scraps sitting on a paper plate....

until....  I realized I didn't want to cut the pieces into the little ones - I wanted to use the WHOLE potato!!

So I did - sort of!! Some of my scraps were squares, and some were strips - so I started with the smallest pieces to make the center.  Then worked the lights in - I had so many scraps I Didn't even need to CUT any!!!   Crazy....

I did trim tho - at each round - just in case!!!

The blocks were growing....
The men took over the Turkey cooking, and the pie making, and so I could keep stitching.....

and I Finished all the blocks!!! Whoo hoo... But wait? Is there still fabric left on that plate? There is!! *sigh*  However NONE of it is Red or Blue any more!!!

I am going to call that a win!  But I also have figured out why those piles don't shrink!!! Scraps make scraps , and Alycia has a Piling problem......

off to tackle another pile..... ( there is plaid in that pile tho... so its good!)

Don't forget to mark your calendars this year for Finished (or not) Fridays on this blog!! Come brag about your week - show us what you are up to!!

They look so pretty! Yes it is a mystery about using scraps while the pile grows. Happy New Year!

I've made one potato chip block, more are happening and the centers will be one fabric! The more I try to reduce the scraps block, the more they multiply! Happy stitching and Happy New Year!

Wow! I love it! I have a messy bin of red, white, blue scraps just waiting to become something. But I never thought of using them in potato chip blocks, even though I've been making them from my other scraps. Hmmm . . . you've given me another idea. Like I needed any more quilt ideas floating around my head! LOL

Your controlled-palette chips look very snappy!

I say that the scraps multiply like rabbits! The only success I had in emptying my scrap bin was to give it all away. I am now considering a RSC project. Potato chip blocks could be a good option.... Hmmmmm.

I love your Whole Potato! Scraps are just like rabbits, they keep multiplying and will we ever really use them all up!

Delicious and bite sized blocks are always fun to see come together. I'm glad you had lots of time to play!

I like your whole potato block. I've been cutting up the 2.5 x 4.5 rectangles. I hope to use this block for Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I agree with needing to clean around the sewing machine and the front of my cutting table. I keep trying but usually some shiny object grabs my attention and then I go off pulling fabric and making a bigger mess. Sigh.

Those strips worked perfectly for red, white, and blue potato chip blocks! I love how they look together!

Love it! I might have to set up a box for some chips and use them for leaders and enders!

Just like plastic bags continue to reproduce, so do my box(es) of scraps. I've noticed that these potato chips can be made with the different sizes of chips

it's always fun to modify a pattern to fit the scraps you have. Love those blocks. I've done a potato chip quilt, mine was in purple and yellows. It's still one of my most favorite quilts.
