Buffalo Plaid 16 patch FINISH!! and !!! Finished ( or not) Friday!!!

In October - I went Treasure Quilting.. what a fun place to DIVE into - haha - like treasure divers!!!

And I came up with a cute Buffalo Plaid 16 patch quilt - that is now FINISHED!!!

I really really really like how this one turned out - and of course, may just have to do some more Treasure Quilting!!!! - I just meandered on it - cuz it was fun!! and GUESS WHAT!!

It was gifted at a Baby Cowboy Baby shower already - GO ME!!!

Oh!! Because the colors of the University of Wyoming are Brown and Gold.... so Brown fit the bill, plus they are decorating in Browns and cowboys - so CHECK out that back!!!!

ITS BUCKING BRONCOS!! haha!!!

Now since you all know me, and know how much I love to bind..... you may remember that my kid made me these really cool binding ladders - so I ACTUALLY made the binding before I quilted it.... I am sure that is what brought the polar vortex this way...

But look how nice it keeps the binding, it doesn't flop all over the place - if I have to step away for a moment I am not tripping over any of the binding - LOVE it!!!

I'm told more are bieng made, as we sold out on the last batch!!

And Now it is the part of the show where you BRAG!!!

Treasure Quilting

I think Last months RSC color was Darks - but I was not inspired at the time. Then I had to find ways to entertain myself with my foot elevated. ( just so you know - my apple watch tells me I stand about 13-15 hours a day.. sitting is HARD)

So I dug thru a bin and found some browns,

and then An idea came to me... make some 16 patches... and some crumb blocks

I made them and threw them on the wall - they were a MESS. I had to rearrange to see what I had!

I had the top 12 -  16 patch blocks made, but I started digging in another pile and found the bottom 16 patches. That is when my husband came in, admonished me, and then said - Oh - is that Treasure Quilting?  and it stuck!!!

I kept staring at those 16 patches trying to figure out what to make out of them. The crumb blocks were already going to the *parts department* ( thanks Cathy for that term) but I didn't want them all to go there!

I started playing, and realized I needed a few more 16 patches to actually make this quilt - so I made 2 more!!! and Ta Da!!!  A buffalo plaid 16 patch haha!!!

A month Behind - but!! I am counting it for this years Rainbow Scrap Challenge.

And keeping my fingers crossed I will have it pieced and MAYBE even quilted by the end of the month.

Playing in the Plaids .... again

A while back I was browsing my blogs, and it led me down a quilt hole .. and I ended up here:

https://sewfreshquilts.blogspot.com/2014/09/st-louis-16-patch-quilt-block-tutorial.html

It got me thinking, and planning, and you know.... I am always looking for fun, fast, easy quilts to try....So I thought - hey that 4 inch measurement sounds like it could make a fast quick quilt.

So I dug into my plaid box and started playing , and then it snowed, and then my dog wanted to play, and then my dog wanted to play again, and then my dog wanted to run in the snow, and then it was too cold so I took her into the barn to play , until I wore her out -she took a 30 min nap in the mudroom... and what???

What happened to the quick quilt?

I got 8 of the 12 blocks I wanted to get done... done...

The others are in some stage of getting done, Did you know that Puppies think that Foot pedals are toys? and that binding is just a long fun piece of string to play with?

These blocks finish at 14 inches and If I did my math right... I will have a 40 x 54 ish sized top. or I may make it 16 blocks - and have is 54 ish squared...

This is the first snow since we have had Bella - and Oh My Gosh - she loved it once she figured out she didn't need to eat it, and if she licked it  - it disappeared.... what a goof ball she is ;-)  She is also fun to throw snowballs to  - she tried to catch them.

and DON'T FORGET ... here on Fridays is a Link up - Finished (or not) Friday!!

16 Patches and Antique Inspirations

Over this last year I have been sewing my scraps into 16 patches.  Well, first you get that I cut the scraps into 2 1/2 inch squares. then I stitched them!  But I have accumulated quite a pile of 16 patches... and I started looking for inspirations for them..

Lo and behold - I was browsing blogs and I saw this one!

Isn't that just fancy???? I saw it on QuiltDivaJulies blog... and I thought what a great way to use the 16 patches!!!

and so I counted the patriotic ones I had - and came up with....

I  kinda liked where this one was going - but you know me... if its going to be Patriotic - why not make it Quilt of Valor Sized.... and so:

I added top and Bottom Borders... and Bam... 60 x 80 inches!!!

I think I will quilt something really patriotic in the whites... any suggetsions?

I also saw this book with 9 patches and now am thinking I may start making 9 patches for something like theses....

Don't forget... Long May She Wave starts on Sept 7th... This is NOT the same as the Mystery being offered my QOVF, so if you are planning to do both - know that My clues take about 2 hours per week or less... hopefully that will help you plan.
