One More Greek Key Finish.... and!! Finished ( or not) Friday!!!!

I fell so in love with my last Greek Key, that I just had to start another one...

and now that one is Completely Finished.  Yay !!!

On this one, I fell back to my favorite color - Plaid... and

then I found a border print of EAGLES!!!

I had enough of the Eagle Print that I could do the border so all the Eagles are upright and flying the right way.  I personally think it looks pretty cool

Each block is a different plaid
Because - a girl can never have too many plaids!

A side look at the quilting - I used a Star panto -
Confetti Fire works on the back

My cell phone got really old - I have a tendency to not upgrade those things - but apparently the one I had was going to no longer work soon, and they had a huge sale - so I got a new phone .

I wanted to test the Camera Quality on it - and you know what?  it is NOT bad!!!!

I am no good at calling people, horrible at texting people back - but ... I think I will probably remember where this phone is more often cuz I LOVE the camera!!!

I hope you had  great First week of 2022
- Here's to a  LOT of finishes -

and a lot of fun starts and finding Fabrics you like!!

Raring Horse Quilt ... and Finished ( or not ) Friday

Ohhh I am raring to go today - Bwahh haa haa....

I have a finish - and I am so glad!! I like having finishes!!

I had fun with this one - I was hoping that the blue border and binding would bring out the sky colors - and I think it did.

I have this one listed in my Etsy Store ( Alycia Quiltygirl ) for sale. I am pretty sure that none of you are interested in purchasing it - but you know... the more it gets looked at the higher it gets in the rankings.

and this is the backing I used .

Alright!! now it is your turn to link up your Finishes ( or not)

PLEASE use a direct link - not just a generic link to your blog.

Enjoy browsing around and leave lots of comments  ;-)

Sapphire Stars Revisited

My January One Monthly Goal was to piece my Sapphire Stars - Kevin the Quilter Mystery quilt.

and I did   ( thank you, thank you very much)

And this last month!!! I finally got it quilted ;-) Oh ya.... you can applaud now

Bless my heart - I pawned the binding off on another Quilt of Valor quilter - cuz she can't say No - so in my book.... IT IS FINISHED -- Whoot Whoot!!

It's a big Quilt!
My batting is only 90 inches long, so I had to piece batting to make it long enough ;-)

I quilted an all over on it

Ta -da!
One more quilt ready to find it's forever home

PS - If you are looking for some fabric deals.... I have started cleaning out my studio ( just a little bit) and... mostly you know - I have boys, and mostly, I make Quilts of Valor... so some of this yummy fabric will never make it into my quilts.... so!!  I a starting to list things on Ebay.....

Computers Geeks and Starbursts

I have my Very Own Computer Geek, and I love him!!

And for Christmas this year, I decided he Needed his Own Computer Geek Quilt.   Plus it was his turn to receive one.

Little Bit and I spent a lot of time traveling our state and chose fabrics that we thought reminded us of our geek, and when he went to college, we promptly got to sewing!!

Here is what we came up with:

The Circuit Board

There are robots, and Pizza, and Mac n Cheese, and Dr Who, and more Dr Who, and Lightening, and The Periodic Table, and Cell phones, and polka dots.... and  fun stuff!

This is the back
I had three wonky Circuits left, and some of the focus fabrics
and Cheese!
In High School he was a Milk/Cheese Judge for a competition
and when I saw the Cheese - we had to have it!

I quilted it with squares and straight lines
I thought it looked like wires and connectors

He wouldn't let me take his photo with it for the blog
He thinks he can remain anonymous ( snort snort)

and my FINAL FINISH for the YEAR!!

STARBURST

It's completely Completely Finished!
As in Bound and labeled!!

This is the back

I had to test out it's compatibility with our couches -
and so one might have taken a nap under it

It had magical powers!!

I think these are finishes 17 and 18 for the year
I mean Complete finishes - I have a bunch of more tops that I have made
but who is counting right?

( someday I will be really Good at Counting.... I tried then I got sidetracked!)

Presidents Challenge Quilt ( Our Guild President)

Just so you didn't think I was getting political on you, this was our Quilt Guild Presidents Quilt challenge for this year.  And her challenges are fun!!

She wanted to support those affected with Breast Cancer... so the challenge was issued in January to make a quilt to have ready at out September Meeting. She will choose recipients ( or you could nominate them to her as well)  and they will be presented next month.

This is Mine:

and boy you should have seen the others - they were so gorgeous - and so many of them!  I loved them all!!!

Purple and Green Churndash Quilt

I obviously need a better name for this quilt - but at this moment - it is called Purple and Green Churndash!!  Pretty fitting right?

AND!! the best news! it is finished!!

It is 64 x 64 inches and so very fun and bright

Next to my barn quilt for fun
Don;t look at the bottom - the doors aren't up yet
( it was - emphasis on the was- summer)

And the back!
Isn't that fun too?

We were struggling against the wind, so thought we would use a corral gate
and that's when we realized why the wind was blowing

Sometimes you really should look around!
This is my outtake -
isn't my bambino such a sweet helper??

If you want to see it in progress:

If you know someone who could use a quilt such as this

If you want to follow me on FB

That is all ;-)
Thanks !!

Reserve Grand Champion - Heritage Arts

The Weld CO fair just happened here.... and Little Bit Entered his Elvis Quilt in the Heritage Arts division.  He won Champion in his Quilting class......

and the it went up against all the other Champions in the Heritage Arts Division -   ( including knitting and other cool things)  and he came out with Reserve Grand Champ!  Not to bad.

I should have taken a photo of the Grand Champion - she had a knitted vest that was spectacular!!!

This is his quilt unbound ... and he bound it in that blue. I am proud to say, he did not need any help on the binding this year - I was impressed - either that - or he wanted me out of the room!!

Posing ;-)

And this is the quilt I entered
I took Third in my category

This is the one that took first in my category
Wow!! I want to take that one home

Do you think she would notice if I just switched them out???

A Very Red Quilt - oh and! Churndashes!!

I might have said earlier this week that Churn-dashes seemed to be the block of the year for me...

I might not have been kidding !

The Month of March was Red on the Rainbow Scrap Challenge < so I had pulled out my red and went to working on them

And I decided that this year my goal was to not only make the blocks - but to assemble them into something.... this year!   ( did you catch that? This year.... Big goal for me!)

Ta Da!!

They are all put into a quilt
and this time I was NOT one block short
( this may be the first quilt this year with ALL of its components!)

And it is all quilted!!

I used a pretty wild back ..
Well it's not really wild, but when paired with all the red
I think it went crazy!

My friend is binding it for me
In the black and white stripe
Won't that be cool????

Here is a little announcement ....
I have been asked by a few readers to host a QOV Blog/instagram Link up for Quilts of Valor Inspiration.

So have decided that once a month I'll host a link up and you can link to all of your blog posts for that month of Quilts of Valor that you are working on/or finished.  That way we can all enjoy the QOV inspirations!  So spread the word - the first linky will be next Wednesday the 31st of May.

Then we will do this on the last Wednesday of each month if people like it - will you join in?

Finishing UFO's

Yay!! This is now a top - with a back, ready for a quilter to get to work on it!!

Remember Ty Pennington? Remember that he got into fabrics? Well - all but the teal are a part of his fabric line - I am not sure how long ago that was - but I am glad to have found a way to use them

( this was the March Free Scrappy Pattern on my Craftsy Site:   https://www.craftsy.com/profile/quiltygirl   )

The Little Man's QOV

I use the term Little Man loosely.... for I look up to the Little Man on a regular basis now. Wearing my highest Tennis Shoes.... do not help at all!!

We are a tad bit embarrassed to tell you when this quilt was started.... but suffice it to say - I was taller then!

You may not have noticed - but there has been a ton of behind the scenes organization going on here, and someday - I will be brave enough to show you the photos.  Someday, Don't hold your breath.

In all the organization - we have found a few things - and this not quite finished Quilt of Valor was one of them.  So Little Bit sat down and added borders, while I made a back.

We loaded it on the machine and I said... "Go For It", while I sat back and had my adult drink ( Diet Dr Pepper.... don't fret lol) and supervised.  you may remember I am not a good "Sharer" of my machines....

And Ta Da:

Another Finished QOV - ready to go to those lovely Binders!!

Not too shabby for a kid right?

I think I may keep him.

(PS - this is QOV #8 for us this year!)

Plaid #4 - Finished!!

Whoot Whoot - Doing a little happy dance around here!!

I joined in with the Finish A long over at the Littlest Thistle - and I tell you what - it has helped me stay focused this time!!  This quilt was one of them I wanted finished this month for the QAL4FAL and for A Lovely Year of Finishes at SewBitterSweet designs.

Ready....

This one will be going as a Quilt of Valor. It was designed by Judy at patchworktimes.com called Sunny Side up ( I think) it is under her free patterns.  I , of course, just had to try plaids ;-)

Because it is almost Christmas - you wanted a snowy bird right?  They land outside my sewing room window - constantly distracting me .... it's a rough life I tell ya!!

Surprise!!

I just had to go to a quilt shop to meet two of my friends ( they really had to twist my arm, and bribe me to go in... it was tough - Right Cheryl and Judy)  I really was screaming as I went in.... yep - that's not the truth.... but I'm going with it!

I found this little package of 1/2 squares - I think They called it a Turnover.... but truly - I can't remember. It just looked cute and I am a sucker for pre-cuts.....

I also told myself I had better get busy - this had to be made into something before 2015.....  and

Surprise!!! Not only did I make the top - I quilted it. Yep.... just the binding awaits....  ( after I figure out how I want to bind it)

I had such a fun time quilting it... I had no plans so I combined a pantograph and bubbles and lines and just had a good time.

I used Quilters Dream - Dream Puff batting - I LOVE that batting. It is puffy ( duh) and light weight - but so warm..... and if you live in my house in the winter - you want warm .   Someone might not like to turn the heater up.....

I am thinking that I will bind it in Dark Blue

Or maybe Lime Green..... Ideas?

This is the back - I zig zag print.  There is a quilt shop in Fort Morgan - Inspirations- the boys had a Cross Country meet there - so I went a tad early and checked out the shop - and found this zig zag -

And now I have a puffy perfect yummy warm quilt... that needs binding.... But I am happy!
