Spirals, Sloths and Stars

I had a plethora of really fun quilts to quilt... and each quilter has some really fun ideas

This one was a spiral star, and she wanted spirals drawn without rulers... oh boy - I was a little worried about that one but it turned out pretty cool!!! Organic looking!

Another one was the CUTEST sloth Quilt, and!! she used Sloth fleece on the backside... so you just had to quilt Sloths into it!!!

This quilt reminded me of the Van Gogh Starry Night - so I had fun with swirly quilting.

I like the variety of quilts that people make- and its so fun to try to figure out how to quilt them, within the clients guidelines, use and of course... Budget ;-)

Happy Monday!!!

Not my Quilt... and !! Finished ( or not) Friday!

I might have mentioned that I was honored to quilt an Antique Quilt for a friend that was dated 1880!!!

it is done.. and I took a few photos - but they are not the best. It was cold, windy and ugly outside and I figured the quilt had lived over 100 years - it was probably NOT a fan of bad weather.

Didn't want it to get Pneumonia!!! (I mean it has lived this long, I had better keep it safe)

Aren't those fabrics so yummy!!! I loved looking at each one of them !

There were a few pieces where the original quilter had to add a little 1/2 inch piece or a 1 inch square - so super cool!!!

I tried to echo the 8 pointed stars in the open spaces - and in the 8 pointed stars I did a Feather motif that was kind of open.... to let the stars shine.  It was a super fun quilt for me to work on, and I really enjoyed doing it. Individual blocks take a bit longer, but I think - in this case - it helped the quilt shine ;-)  ( you know ... since it is stars??)

Quilting like the Wind.... and Finished!! (or not) Friday!!

Happy Happy Friday!!!

I'm flashing back a few years.... I found this photo in a box at my parents house, and just grinned...

My Dad started as a volunteer firefighter, and worked up to Chief. There is a Quilting group called Firehouse quilts and I had quilted a BUNCH of the quilts for them.  My Dad asked if they could have some... and some they got!!!

Firehouse Quilts packages them in ziploc bags so they could be stored in the ambulances, and the kids and I made the delivery. My Mom loved to write so she wrote a story about them for their local paper - and this was the photo she used.... too cute right???

So back to me!! I have been quilting. it's so cool to see all the Variety of quilts that clients make - this one... FOOTBALL!!!  LOVE it!!!

My Clients son wanted some theme quilts for his friends - and one was a Peanuts Quilt... LOVE it!

Last photo ... SPRING has to be coming right? Wednesday was a pretty nice day, until it wasn't - and we got wind and snow and super cold....  this little bloom seems to have made it.... Fingers Crossed!!!

Back to you!!!!  it is Finished ( or not) Friday!!!

Quilt Briefs

Do you read the blog Stitch and Yarn?  Somehow I cam across it and she has a Design Brief idea, and I thought - well this sounds kind of fun!!!

Design Brief Idea

Her idea was to use the Pantone Color of the year - which I can tell you I do not care for. But I pulled up my Graph Paper, and then moved into EQ and came up with a design, that used all the elements that she briefed us on:

Oh - and I used Red - its close to the color of the year..... but seeing Red always makes me think..
QOV - and so....
I started adding Blue... and brought the size up a bit...

And Ta da!!! I looks more Patriotic here... haha!!!

That was a fun challenge - I have no idea if I will ever make this quilt - but that was a fun way to get the juices going...

And I just saw Design Brief Number 2:

Pandemonium!!!

The Second Quilt in the awesome box that came from QuiltDiva Julie  is called

Pandemonium

I mean!! what a name right?

Are you ready to see it???

This one seemed better to hang on the cream trailer..... haha!

Julie combined a lot of different blocks in this one
But the theme?

PLAID!!!!

It was a bright sunny day - which I like for taking quilt photos, but it might have been to bright? I could see the quilting real well....

But it was hard to get a good photo of the quilt!
( which is why above, there is one on my wood floor!(

If I stepped back
I thought you could see more of the quilt, and less of the quilting...

This one is Bound, and washed, and sitting with Drama Queen... almost ready to go to Mercyful Quilts.

( I have one more to quilt and finish and then the box will be full)

Gratuitous Puppy Shot (here his is Bonnie haha!) You will note Puppy is old... but he still thinks he's a Puppy... I think he is 12 now??

You are the Drama Queen.... and !!! Finished ( or Not) Friday

So the song running thru  my head is actually Dancing Queen from Abba - but! Don't you think Drama Queen fits?

and DRAMA QUEEN - its the most awesome name for a Quilt!!

Here is how this one came about.

I was reading Bernie's Blog ( needle and foot ) and she was talking about the Positivity QAL .... in the comments Julie ( QuiltDiva Julie ) commented that she had quilts available but they needed to be quilted

I admit... I am a stalker.... I emailed Julie and said - I have time to quilt them if you'd like .... and then my UPS man showed up and said  - Here is the box you are looking for. And I said Do you want to see what's inside?

So we opened up the box and Drama Queen was on the top - and he laughed and said - do you all name your quilts?

And I said No, but we should - cuz this is awesome...

and so! Drama Queen yelled at us and said finish me FIRST!!!

Photo Overload!!!

Tip Number one - if you want Alycia to actually  finish something- provide pre-made binding.
Julie did not know this ( nor did Alycia) but she included pre made binding and IT! WAS! SO! EASY! to bind.... apparently my non love of binding might come down to the making of said binding!

Tip number two:  Stop gawking at all the COOL fabrics in said quilt.... or if you gawk - set a timer!

Tip Number three - send photos to your kids and hear them say - oh Wow! That one is so cool.

Tip Number Four :   Texture is SO cool on such a full quilt such as the Drama Queen!

Tip Number Five - when the Quilts name is Drama Queen - just know that SHE wants to steal the spotlight - so she will still outshine the quilting.... cuz you know - she is full of Drama!

There you have it!
Drama Queen
Pieced by Julie the Quilt Diva
Quilted by Quiltygirl
Heading to Mercyful Quilts ( after I finish a few more to stuff the box)

  • And now.... it is your turn!! Link up your finishes for this week!
  • Help us make the linky party grow and Provide a link back ON YOUR POST - to this post.
  • ( I reserve the right to remove you from the linky party if you don't link back)
  • Strut your stuff!!

the * Quiltygirl ® * Trademark

I first started working for myself in 1995 when I started a Clothing Business - I  immediately Trademarked the name, and the two subsidiary's and off I went....

Until - I found Quilting - and then I sold off those businesses and kept Quiltygirl - the name I made up in 2003... and got the website and tried like heck to keep up with all other forms of Social Media... until I couldn't.

Here is my Business advice - trademark your name.

Need a good Trademark Attorney? Erik Pelton and Associates

It is a little frustrating when someone uses your name and says - well - its just a word

Well - not really - its just a word that I made up ( with my kids) and its just a word that is the name of my Business - it feels a little personal

And that is why I am glad that I have the Registered Trademark on the name.

And proof that I care about my Identity... now....

if I could just figure out how to keep up with all the social media outlets .....I truly love Blogging the best!

The Quilt that Needs A Name and!!! Finished ( or not) Friday

This quilt is NOW a Finished!!!  Quilt,  and! I love the contrast of the colors! But - I have been calling it the Teal quilt - and it sounds lonely that way. It needs a Name... Suggestions??

Oh ya! And you know I took it hiking with us! It had to be introduced to the whole world.

But don't worry - after its photo shoot it went straight back into the Car - I kept it super clean, as it will go on Etsy soon.

I just love all those fun fabrics in there - they are mod and crazy, and swirly and... Teal!! with Hot pink and purple - A perfect combination right??

All right - if you have a name!! Shoot it off to me - give it an identity!

Now!!
Time for Finished ( or not) Friday!!
Link up and show us what you got!!

You know what - I am starting in the third year of hosting this... My first time taking over from Myra was 8/23/2019  - WOW!!

Alright - so !! Why!!??!! aren't all my UFO's done????

Orange you Glad!!! and a block tutorial

Today is my day on the Awesome ORANGE YOU GLAD  Bog hop!!

I saw this one and said "Self!! Go outside your color range and join in!"  and then I got to planning... and looking at my fabric and I said "Self!! you sure have a lot of orange-ish fabric.... why haven't you dug in?"

So this !! totally  got me going!!

Let's just jump in with the Final Product - and then, we will go to the Block Tutorial

Are you ready? Sure?  Alright?

I am not going to tell you how old these fabrics are - but I am pretty sure they are at least 12 years old. I must have loved them and had a plan - and then - put them in a hiding place! I am so glad I found them - there is Orange, shades or orange and pink in them - I loved them even more this time!

Because I am a machine quilter ( and was a machine quilter first!! haha) You just have to see the texture this panto creates.... I love it!! and I think... its pretty modern.
I decided that this quilt needs to live in my house - and I love Flannel Backings and I had the cutest puppy dog print - so ! This is the back!!
Now for the individual Block!!!

That's just a fun one right? I can see it in a lot of colors - and way more scrappy that this....

The block is 12 1/2 inches - so my 30 blocks made a 60 x 72 ish Size quilt.

Just so you know - when you open your colored pencil pack and you have the 72 pencil pack - you will be surprised at the lack of Shade Difference from the Oranges they have in there..... I think kindergarteners everywhere are going to be sad when they realize this... I had to have a piece of chocolate to stop my sadness!

Ta da!! Now you can make your Own Orange Block!!

As I worked through this Quilt I kept thinging - you have made orange quilts before.... Haven't you? and then I searched my photos... you know photos - always tell the truth right????

and look I did!!

and I did!!!

and the last one!!
Apparently I like Orange more than I thought I did!!
