Leaf Block

Back in May our guild hosted a Workshop and I attended.

I also had a broken foot - altho I didn't know it was broken then.

I had a lot of fun and learned some new techniques - but I didn't finish the project.

brought it home - and there it sat.

i made the executive decision to just finish it - not finish it the way she asked us to - just DO IT - and get it done. So it is...

now I will Quilt it and we can use it as a placemat  - or something on top of one of my cabinets - or even maybe Meals on Wheels... but!

Score!!! it is ready to quilt!

We had a ton of blossoms and then - a freeze and a wind = and I have exactly ONE apple to pick this year. I may have to hire a whole picking crew ha!

At least I will have one!

Learning a New Technique

Saturday we had a workshop with Carla J, and she was amazing. She taught a new to me technique of piecing, and I really enjoyed it.

It wasn't paper piecing, and it wasn't applique - but others in our group who had done that type of work were able to draw from that experience. I haven't done any Paper Piecing and VERY LITTLE applique - so I was the newbie

We gathered supplies, and we were supposed to bring freeze paper... so I brought something that I thought was freezer paper - but!! Did you know that Parchment Paper and Freezer Paper are not the same thing?   I do now!!!  My Friend Cindy had extra so I was all good!

We did some Drawing and some fabric choosing... and then we got to work...

This is my FIRST Curved seam of the day - and heck fire - if it just didn't turn out so nice!!

I then learned to match and pin - and!! Got half of my leaf done.  I kind of like it. It does take a long time though, and now I have some wonky cuts out my fabric  - but I think I will survive.

it was a long day - and when I got home... my babies needed to nap....
And give me grief for not being with them all day. In my defense.... K was home, and Lil Bit showed up later - so they weren't REALLY alone.... they just made me feel SOOO guilty!!

Sunday was Mothers day and lookie here - I made out like a bandit!! haha Mothers day Morning was spent in the Urgent care, someone had a little accident Thursday, and Saturday night her foot swelling had not gone down and the pain had gotten worse so her son and her spouse made her go to urgent care,

The doc in urgent care was the nicest I have ever met, He gave me a shot of tramadol (pain meds) right away and I might have fallen in love right there. I have never had that before, and I rarely take any pain meds - so it worked quite well.

Anyways - there is a reason I was in pain... I broke my foot... so! Sometime this week I get to go to the ortho to learn about what is next - other than the pretty black boot they put me in. He did tell me that I need to expect at least 6-8 weeks to fully heal... has he not met my dogs????

We walk a good 5-7 miles a day.... how???

Ah well - Lil Bit brought me quilt magazines and he got me the one that Carole ( From My Carolina Home )   has a QOV pattern in!! I was so excited... its like he read my mind when he saw the patriotic Quilts.....

The Backs ( and maybe a front)

The backs of these quilts look so cool!!!

Don't they just give so much to these?  I really love the way they llook!!!

My friend rescued this retro panel - the cats are so cute. So she cut them all up and added the sashing. Its a great quilt . ( and the front as promised in the title)

I finally finished a book. This one was rather hard to put down tho - i don't want to give too much away - but there is a HUGE twist in the end. I got it on Amazon Kindle here: The Perfect Marriage

King Sized Quilts

Talk to me Goose.... How big does a King size quilt REALLY need to be?

Serape Weave Made and Quilted by me - just cuz you need a nice photo ;-)

I have been quilting some amazing King Sized Quilts for Clients recently ( seriously - it has been a run on King Sized - I think I am on my 18th one this year!! LOVE it!)    - but they all range in size -

  •  96 x 100
  • 100 x 100
  • 115 x 115
  • 120 x 120
  • 100 x 120
When I ask google the size of a King Mattress I get 76 x 80 and so I measured my bed - because!!! I got a King sized bed last year, and now it needs its own quilt.... mine is 76 x 80 in

Do I really need a 100 x 100 sized quilt for it? If you have one that is that big - how do you like it on your King? Does it fall to the floor?

I am kind of thinking 86 x 90 would be a good size - but then - am I right??

Talk to me Goose!!! Explain to me!!

Spirals, Sloths and Stars

I had a plethora of really fun quilts to quilt... and each quilter has some really fun ideas

This one was a spiral star, and she wanted spirals drawn without rulers... oh boy - I was a little worried about that one but it turned out pretty cool!!! Organic looking!

Another one was the CUTEST sloth Quilt, and!! she used Sloth fleece on the backside... so you just had to quilt Sloths into it!!!

This quilt reminded me of the Van Gogh Starry Night - so I had fun with swirly quilting.

I like the variety of quilts that people make- and its so fun to try to figure out how to quilt them, within the clients guidelines, use and of course... Budget ;-)

Happy Monday!!!

Quilting Quips

 or snippets?

I have had the privilege of working on some really cool Client quilts this summer - and heres' a few little Quips of them!

You know I LOVE inspirational quilts - and this was totally one of them - I loved working on this one!!

This one was fun too - it had these triangle spaces and was patriotic - so totally called for an Eagle right?  I think it fit just perfect...

This one had lots of starry fabric - so what's better than a Starry Panto? Too much fun!!

Now this one - Oh my gosh... the blocks were made by the Clients Grandmother - and she has since passed away. She worked on stabilizing the blocks. NONE of them were the same size - and none of the fans or the centers of the block were the same size. It added a lot of variety to the quilt. and of course - the centers puffed... so I did a LOT of stabilizing by stitching in the ditch as well as 1/4 inch inside the read - and then feathers.   Feathers can cover a multitude of Puff...  I think it turned out so great.

Alright - back to quilting some more.... Twist my arm 😂🤣😂😂

Heart Quilting... its not just for Valentines day

Or maybe.... it is!!! Maybe you quilt some hearts and show your husband and say.... isn't this a cute Valentine themed heart.... and maybe a few hours later he says.... you like Dark chocolate right?

and you just know it was meant to be...

These little place mats are really just so much fun to quilt - I have a small space, I can play, and! I haven't committed to a king size quilt with the design.... and also.... It if don't like it I can change up the design to finish it - because.... you will NEVER see it - BWahh haa haa!!!

Heartstrings Quilt a Long

My Heartstrings group is having a Quilt a long - the goal - to quilt as many un-quilted tops as you can - These are quilts for Quilts of Valor, Hospice, your church group - whatever you donating to - so of course - I am trying to keep up and quilt some Quilts of Valor.

I get competitive that way (sigh) but I figure its a good competition because those that need to see the love benefit!!  ( I finished 4 this week - wish me luck for next week ok?)

Here is my progress for this week:

This one is a quilt that was made especially for a Veteran from Grenada.
It was the quilters first Quilt of Valor

My Plaid scrap quilt
The pattern can be found here:
it's pretty fast and easy

And a close up of the quilting

This one was made by Marilyn S
and I had fun!  I tried to quilt some patriotic motifs in the whites

and the next one...

Oh wait - you can't see it?
Well it's sort of a secret one
BUT!!! I did get it quilted and as soon as I can show it to you
you know I totally will!!!

This was Friday Night
The quilt is made by Judy and was a pattern found here

It was really cute - he was camping with his whole family, and it was also his birthday.
The Honor Guard came ( they were hs buddies) and we went in with them

He was shocked to see his buddies - but kept wondering who in the heck I was!!
And then - Ta-Da!!
WE showed him the love!!!

HOT!!! Off the Frame!!!

I did it ! Whoot Whoot - This week I have been getting up early ( 5am ish) every morning, making the kids breakfast and running Quickly to my quilting studio.... before anyone can ask for anything else.....

Of course, the whirlwind that is summer starts at 8am - so my time is a little limited.... but!!!

I FINISHED Quilting this quilt!  It is a Quilt of Valor made by Kevin the Quilter, of the Mystery Pattern from Bonnie Hunter - which I can NOT for the life of me remember right now!!!!

I tell you - Kevin did a fabulous job piecing this quilt - It was TOTALLY square. With this many pieces and the triangles in the corner - that had to be no easy feat!!!

I am linking up with http://confessionsofafabricaddict.blogspot.com/  and Crazymomquilts.blogspot.com for Finished Fridays - Whoot Whoot!!!

Pineapple Blossoms

Today I spent the morning with some awesome ladies - and I sewed- and it was wonderful.... and I made progress on my pineapple blossoms ( pattern from Quiltville.com)

And I came home all excited to continue - and my iron reached out and bit my finger, and now I am sitting with my finger in a glass of cold water.... and playing on the internet - waiting for the burn to stop.

You feel sorry for me right?
