Dust Off a Book Blog Hop!!! and Weekend Quilting!!!

Today is MY Day!!! On the *Dust Off a Book* Blog hop!!

I liked this idea especially since I have books, and I have Quilts to make, and I thought what a better way to make myself look at my books, and then I went down the rabbit hole, and looked at WAY to many and now I have a big list of what I want to make...

But it's all good!!! I have fabric!!!

This is the Book I chose!  1 - it has some awesome patterns in it, and 2 . It promises you can make a top in a weekend.

Truthfully - It took me more than one weekend- but that is not the books fault!! She has the steps laid out by time. So you cut. Then Hour 1 is step one, and so on . Each quilt has the idea of how many hours it should take you. That is an Awesome Concept.

However - she does not have my dogs continually interrupting her plans.😅😆😅😆

Here is the Quilt I decided to make!!

I just loved all the bright colors. But then!!! i thought!! ( watch out world that is how earthquakes happen!!)

I have a LOT of weddings coming up this year - I wonder.... could I make this one for one of my wedding couples???

I got to sleuthing out their favorite colors..... and planning the time line - I think it would all work out.....

Of course - the day I finished it , that exact moment when I wanted to take photos - the wind came up!!!

So I went to the other side of the house - and guess what?  The wind was there too!!!

So we took a photo inside as well - but I love this one!!!
I used Navy, Royal, Teal, Purple , two greens - it was so fun to play with the colors.

We know this couple well enough to know Black is not their vibe - so I used White as the background, and in real person - it makes those colors pop!!!

This was a fun challenge - with a deadline - so I had to power thru!! ( read NOT start 16 more projects in the same time frame) and I enjoyed it!

Again the Book is Weekend Quilts - Here is the Amazon Link if you want to see it for yourself.

Link to Weekend Quilts

There is a lot more quilts in the book - and of course - Iwant to make a few more of them!!!

Shout out to BeAQuilter for putting this all together!

Check out all the other Bloggers on the list!! Maybe be inspired by a new book!

Orange you Glad!!! and a block tutorial

Today is my day on the Awesome ORANGE YOU GLAD  Bog hop!!

I saw this one and said "Self!! Go outside your color range and join in!"  and then I got to planning... and looking at my fabric and I said "Self!! you sure have a lot of orange-ish fabric.... why haven't you dug in?"

So this !! totally  got me going!!

Let's just jump in with the Final Product - and then, we will go to the Block Tutorial

Are you ready? Sure?  Alright?

I am not going to tell you how old these fabrics are - but I am pretty sure they are at least 12 years old. I must have loved them and had a plan - and then - put them in a hiding place! I am so glad I found them - there is Orange, shades or orange and pink in them - I loved them even more this time!

Because I am a machine quilter ( and was a machine quilter first!! haha) You just have to see the texture this panto creates.... I love it!! and I think... its pretty modern.
I decided that this quilt needs to live in my house - and I love Flannel Backings and I had the cutest puppy dog print - so ! This is the back!!
Now for the individual Block!!!

That's just a fun one right? I can see it in a lot of colors - and way more scrappy that this....

The block is 12 1/2 inches - so my 30 blocks made a 60 x 72 ish Size quilt.

Just so you know - when you open your colored pencil pack and you have the 72 pencil pack - you will be surprised at the lack of Shade Difference from the Oranges they have in there..... I think kindergarteners everywhere are going to be sad when they realize this... I had to have a piece of chocolate to stop my sadness!

Ta da!! Now you can make your Own Orange Block!!

As I worked through this Quilt I kept thinging - you have made orange quilts before.... Haven't you? and then I searched my photos... you know photos - always tell the truth right????

and look I did!!

and I did!!!

and the last one!!
Apparently I like Orange more than I thought I did!!

Thanks for stopping by on this Blog Hop! I appreciate you looking at my quilts!! you can always follow my blog and find me at my Website - Quiltygirl.com and more!!

Stitch it and Gift it!!

I love this idea for a blog hop - it kinda gets you in the spirit... and pushes you a long to finish the ideas you have.... That being said!!

If you are reading my post - you are now SWORN to SECRECY/..... Got it???

and!! Even more important - if you know any of my family.... you may not speak of this to them....

and EVEN more important.... if you know my Brother in law... do not tell him that I like him... we operate on the - who can pick on each other the worst........

Did you swear? are you able to keep a secret?
Alright - then you may read on....

A few years ago I decided that it would be cool to make him a quilt with pictures of his family and some old photos.  His family is one that has been in Wyoming for a million years ( that's how old he is - bwahh haa haa)   And they have quite the history... so I worked with his Sister and Brother and we found some really great old photos.

His Dad was a WWII pilot and we found some of those photos - and we found some goofy ones -

Then I worked with Erin and Fabric on Demand  and I made fabric of those photos,... that is one awesome company - they are SO helpful and SO great to work with.

And then! I had to find fabrics - oh the torture.. oh the shopping - Ok .. not really -

Whoops - that is not it... that is just a photo of a few of my horses... that was a test - just to see if you were ready to keep a secret...

TA DA
There is the top!! I framed each photo with Dark Brown cowboy fabric ... in ... of course a Churn Dash!! I thought it looked like a frame for each photo.

I thought that would be the end of my post - I didn't know if I could get it completely finished by today... but you know what?? You beg your husband to make dinner and you work in the dark... and

you get it DONE!!
Whoop Whoop

( and by Done - I even mean... are you ready???? BOUND!!!)

it turned out King Size - which was sorta my plan - but not really... I was going for Queen - but you know ... Math.... It changes a lot!! Works out pretty good tho! They have a king size bed.

I am so glad that Creatin in the Sticks gave us this push to get something done in time for the holidays - and in my case - something pretty big... It took me 2 years to really make this.... We have been collecting photos that long...

Go check out all these other blogs too - they are also participating:

My Favorite Block....

Carla over at Creatin' In the Sticks hosts the most fun and amazing blog hops!! I always add to my bucket list - and I love it!!

This time she put a call out for *My Favorite Block*  and I knew I had to jump in!!

And do you know why? I was getting ready  to start on another of !! My Favorite Block!!

Can you guess what it is?

Yep!!! The Churn Dash!! I even have one on my barn!! Which I need to update, we added on to the barn and moved the block to a higher even better location!! I can see it from my front room now!!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Tutorial by Missouri Star Quilt Co - it uses ALL 5 inch squares. and I LOVE to cut my leftovers into 5 inch squares

This is my Bin of 5 inch squares! It sits by my Sewing machine, so anytime I need a leader ender - I make a half square or a rail block. I just stitch them and put them in a pile...

Then on Sundays - I cut and iron what I have and keep on going..

And my wall fills up until I have 30 blocks - and Bam!! I put it into a quilt top!!

So the Tutorial that I use is here:

Churn Dash Block Tutorial

And then one day I wanted to make an 8 1/2 inch block and because sometimes Math Eludes me - I made a ton of sample blocks with different squares - using the same method - and Ta -da ! I have a measurement chart for you.... ( I mean there is no reason for math to be hard for you too!)

( Click on it - you can save it to your computer!!)  Fun math right??

This is what I made with all of my Sample Blocks - and I awarded it to a Veteran and it was hilarious - I told him about the MATH that was required - and he got a kick out of it - turns out... He was also a math professor - so he appreciated my struggle!
I also designed a Mystery Quilt using a Churn Dash! You can find the pattern here - I called it a Dash of Chains... Smart right?

 Pretty Cool right?

And then!!! ( are you bored yet?) I saw this Modern Churn Dash in a Modern Patchwork Magazine.

And I could go on until you were bored.. Or maybe you have already finished your breakfast.....

But !! I have one more!!!

I had all those squares in my bucket ( above) and I have been using them as leader enders.... but because today was the reveal of our favorite block!!  I finished it!!!

And TA DA!!!
Here is my Scrappy Churn dash
and it didn't make a dent in my bucket
But now!
I want to do one in the opposite color way!!

So!!! FOR TONS of other Favorite blocks - check out this post:

and after the FInished Friday Link up - I will have the Friday Links posted too... Just in case!!

BECAUSE today is also FINISHED or NOT FINISHED FRIDAY!!! and man has it been a week!! I am so glad I have a finish to share!!

All About Strings Blog Hop

Welcome to my little stop of the *All About Strings* blog hop
hosted by Carla at Creatin' in the Sticks

if you have followed my blog for a while you will know that my favorite way to use my strips and scraps left from each quilt - is a String quilt!! and when Carla put out the announcement I had just finished another quilt.... and had a pile of strings!

So whats a quilter to do? Start a new project!!

And! I even have it quilted.... (don't ask about the binding.... that way we can still be friends - ha ha)

Ta-da!!!  I had this great pile of strings left over - so I added some Black and White fabrics to be my *centerish* strip, then started stitching!!

After I made 24 blocks.... I still had small strips left - hence the piano Key border...  I really wanted to use them all up!!

To figure out how to quilt it... I decided on the same greek key motif in the strings, and carried it out into the open spaces -

This is the quilt that all these little strings were left over from - see why I couldn't just let them go?

here is another string quilt that I have finished in the last year

and another one
See how hard it is for me to stop?
Ha ha

So!! Hope you are encouraged to start your own string quilt today! But... don't forget to check out all this awesome inspiration too - these blogs are so cool!!

AND!! just in case you have finished any quilting project... come back Friday and Link up to TGIFFriday hosted here!!!
