Another Quilt of Valor Presentaiton

It's kind of like Christmas around here - I have had a lot of presentations set up...

This one!!

Just love it!!!

This awesome group of Veterans had Army, Navy and Marines. We had one that was almost 100 - and we had a Husband and Wife Navy Team - it was just awesome!!!

We had quilts from

Ila, Ethel. Lorna, Our Colorado Group, Verna, Jeri and myself.

If you look closely you will see two people wrapped in the same quilt. They are the Husband Wife team. We had discussed that maybe they would love a quilt they could use together - Little Bit and I recalled the Kevin the Quilter Sapphire Stars Mystery and we decided that would be a great Quilt to make for this team !! So Little Bit  and I made it for them!!!

It was exciting to be able to award these Quilts of Valor to these amazing Veterans

One More Greek Key Finish.... and!! Finished ( or not) Friday!!!!

I fell so in love with my last Greek Key, that I just had to start another one...

and now that one is Completely Finished.  Yay !!!

On this one, I fell back to my favorite color - Plaid... and

then I found a border print of EAGLES!!!

I had enough of the Eagle Print that I could do the border so all the Eagles are upright and flying the right way.  I personally think it looks pretty cool

Each block is a different plaid
Because - a girl can never have too many plaids!

A side look at the quilting - I used a Star panto -
Confetti Fire works on the back

My cell phone got really old - I have a tendency to not upgrade those things - but apparently the one I had was going to no longer work soon, and they had a huge sale - so I got a new phone .

I wanted to test the Camera Quality on it - and you know what?  it is NOT bad!!!!

I am no good at calling people, horrible at texting people back - but ... I think I will probably remember where this phone is more often cuz I LOVE the camera!!!

I hope you had  great First week of 2022
- Here's to a  LOT of finishes -

and a lot of fun starts and finding Fabrics you like!!

Greek Key Log Cabin Quilt of Valor

Hey!!! I just looked up when I started this one... and!! proud to say... It's not a million years ago!!!

This is a Greek Key Log Cabin - and I used the Block on Board Log Cabin die from AccuQuilt - and patriotic fabrics and... I am in love!!

I used a star print for the borders - and there are actually 4 borders.... the wind was blowing ( again) when I was taking the photo!!!

But it is all quilted and will go to one of my Quilting Friends to get its binding and Quilt of Valor Label!!

yay!!!

Hope you all had a Great Christmas!!

I Bound and I bordered!!!

I think I am sick - very very sick - I have the Binding flu.... yep - that must be what it is..

And the sad thing.... I am not even really procrastinating it that much. WHAT happened to me?

I bound this one:

It is from a pattern called Merry Go Round - and I actually even listed it in my Etsy store! I am not usually that organized!!

Here is a close up of the quilting - because - I love it!

And then... I bound Diamondback!!  I really like the way the Black binding makes that black pop out !!
And get this - I even got it listed in my Quiltygirl Etsy Store!  I am worried about myself - can I keep up with me????

This is the back! I found this camping print on my Man Shelf and thought it would be perfect!

and then..... my machine started getting goofy and I was worried! So! I took it down and got my other one out. Okay - I drug the other one up the stairs and then had to take an hour nap from all that hard work! and as I got back at it...

I bordered....

Maybe you remember? I bought the Log Cabin Block on Board from accuquilt and made a greek key quilt? ( Click here to see the first one)

well - I liked it so much!!! I had to make another one.... so here it is!  ( above)  The other one was white with reds and blues, so I wanted to see what happened when you changed the solid to a tan - I still like it!  This is a Quilt of Valor once I get it quilted

And then I had leftover block from one of the ColorBlock Quilts.... don't ask which one, my brain is slowing down.... so I put them together and bordered it !

after all that - I deserve a cookie or a brownie or a nap right!?

SEUFO and !! A new Greek Key Log Cabin started

Do you participate in the One Monthly Goal? or a UFO challenge of some sort?

This year - I am trying for the One Monthly Goal program... its over at Elm Street Quilts!

and this is my OMG for January - its also a SEUFO!!!

Don't know what a SEUFO is - well... I was telling my husband that this isn't really MY ufo - it was sent to me from another quilter, and it was a UFO for her.... so he said.... It should be called a SEUFO -

Someone Elses UFO  -  and I totally Agree!! ha ha - its just funny!

Anyways - the pattern is dated 2002, I was not quilting then... but this will be fun!

Then - there is this!! I had such fun with my last Greek Key Quilt  that I decided to cut another one, and just sorta work on it in between other stitching.

Now all the Blocks are done!! I have it laid out like this - and will work on *rowing* it!
I really like this quilt and how easy it goes together - I am even thinking of trying one in just scraps... you think that will work?

Anyways check out all the other Goals at Elm Street Quilts - Maybe you will be inspired ;-)

Greek Key Finish!!!! and Finished (or not) Friday!!

I hope your week has been so productive!!!  I have had a good one, and I hope the momentum keeps right on going!!!

My finish for this week is my Greek Key top - it is all plaid... with Eagles for the borders - and you know what?

I LOVE IT!!!

The weather was super nice and super calm all day - and I couldn't wait to get out and take photos. Now the kids are gone, but the Husband is working from home... so I bribed him into.... taking photos!  But as soon as we opened the door to go out - the wind started blowing - can you believe it!!

We had to go hide in front of the barn - and it was all okay - but I wanted to take this photo in front of a tree....

A Close up of the quilting....

And a gratuitous Mountain show - just because - we all need a little Peace in our Lives...
PS - I don't know who that guy is in the photo - but I forgot to crop him out - so now he will be forever famous!!

Thursday night I yelled - Oh no!! I don't have a Finish for Friday... and my husband said... well you could say you finished loading hay... I said yuck!! no... that is not quilty related....

He said... you could say you finally finished figuring out why you were having machine troubles ( lost a screw on a wheel ( longarm) )  and I said ...No!! Yuck ... that is boring - and a little bit frustrating...

He said... well... go drink a bottle of wine ( or whine)  and I kicked him out... Just kidding... I made him go do chores... and I finished....

THE BLOCKS!!

Ta- da!!! All of my Greek Key blocks are now finished!!!

And just to prove that we did finish the hay.... its all loaded....

and home... because - ol merry Mare here... she wants some!!

And now!!! It is your turn! Show me ( or even tell me) What you got finished!!!  and.... if you got a bottle of whine for it - ha ha!

Design Wall Monday

My design wall has not changed much... but I did get six more of my Greek Key blocks cut - and this is where I am in the stitching process.... I think if I had just had one more hour free in the day Sunday - I could have been there.... but!

I had places to go... and things to do... and well, you always need something to get you out of chores on the weekdays... right??

See... it stayed the same
just in case you thought I was joking

Now for the Book I just finished... Oh my.... you all... Beatriz is just one of the best writers in the world... or at least in my world. and this book DID NOT disappoint!!!

I am a huge fan of Flying, of women flying, and of stories of women flying.....
Oh this one....

I am sure it was a million pages, and that was still not long enough - I wanted the story to go on...it flips back and forth between two people and two different years and you all... one is a pilot and one is a photojournalist ( both women) and .. I swear this is just a book you all have to read!!

PS - I should add... there is swearing and some talk - but if you make it G rated in your head.... well - I am a G rated girl - so I just *bleep* it out

Oh and Check this out!!
My friend - who owns Summit View Designs  re designed my WebPAGE!!!

has a whole new look!!
we are still adding a few things - But I totally love where she has gone with it...

I kinda LOVE it!! she is so talented!!

Greek Key Log Cabin is growing!!

I was so inspired by all your interest last week - I just had to sit down and keep stitching on this one ... I want to see what it is going to become!!

I have all the ones I cut now put into blocks - and I think!! I want at least 6 more blocks.... ( maybe more... I get wishy washy haha)

I added some Red Plaids in there too - I think they add interest...

A lot of you asked which die... well - do NOT look at all the other piles of stuff... I am not a clean quilter - but this is the die - it was called a Log Cabin Block on board.  So I cut one layer of white with one layer of the dark to make the whole block...

and I laid them out in a baking pan by number!!  But then I got wise and realized I could cut 4 lights , and then 4 darks, lay them out by number, and not have to separate pieces when I got to sewing more than one block!

Now!! A few of you said you were digging in and making this one - 1 I demand photos... and 2. Do NOT rub it in if you finish before me ( promise?? ha ha)

Also - Colorado is ON FIRE

We can see the smoke from the fire on the western side... ( as well as the one just north east of us) but Saturday night that west fire just Blew up - the sunset was kind creepy!

I am off to golf a little this morning - then come back and cut Six more blocks!!! Sounds like a great Labor Day right?

Greek Key Log Cabin Quilt.... a start

How many of you have an AccuQuilt Cutter?

I have one, I probably don't make the best use of it, mostly because I start cutting a new quilt in the middle of the night, and my cutter is downstairs, and its dark down there.... and you know... dark.....

But!! with lots of people  home, and a son,  who is awesome - we pulled it out and he started cutting up my scraps. I have the Strip dies, and that was it.... until!!

We started checking out the website and we found the Log Cabin Block on Board die, and we started coloring stuff.... and!! We decided we wanted to try the Greek Key Log cabin, and so.... I bought myself a present - and Looky what got  started!!

But here is a funny thing... I bought this block on board and then I thought... let me buy the 5 inch half square die - that might be fun...

I ALWAYS get confused between finished and unfinished terms, and even after making mistake after mistake about it - I still get them messed up - so when my 5 inch half squares turned out 5 inches... I was all upset with my sewing skills!!

I couldn't believe that after all these years I couldn't master a 1/4 inch seam.... welllllllll.....

I headed back to the website - and guess what! The 5 inch die is meant to make 5 inch half squares.... Hunh!! Funny right??

I have to admit - it did make me feel better about myself , knowing that I was actually doing it right, even though...
