How many of you have an AccuQuilt Cutter?
I have one, I probably don't make the best use of it, mostly because I start cutting a new quilt in the middle of the night, and my cutter is downstairs, and its dark down there.... and you know... dark.....
But!! with lots of people home, and a son, who is awesome - we pulled it out and he started cutting up my scraps. I have the Strip dies, and that was it.... until!!
We started checking out the website and we found the Log Cabin Block on Board die, and we started coloring stuff.... and!! We decided we wanted to try the Greek Key Log cabin, and so.... I bought myself a present - and Looky what got started!!
But here is a funny thing... I bought this block on board and then I thought... let me buy the 5 inch half square die - that might be fun...
I ALWAYS get confused between finished and unfinished terms, and even after making mistake after mistake about it - I still get them messed up - so when my 5 inch half squares turned out 5 inches... I was all upset with my sewing skills!!
I couldn't believe that after all these years I couldn't master a 1/4 inch seam.... welllllllll.....
I headed back to the website - and guess what! The 5 inch die is meant to make 5 inch half squares.... Hunh!! Funny right??
I have to admit - it did make me feel better about myself , knowing that I was actually doing it right, even though...

I have the Accuquilt cutter and love it! I've never seen this die--looks like a LOT of fun!
I don't use my accuquilt as much as I should - I always seem to make quilts that I don't have the die for and the dies I have don't always make the quilts I want to make!
I had the lightweight GO! and found it more trouble than it was worth so gave it to my grand-daughter. Now that my hands are developing arthritis, I'm thinking about getting the electric version.
HAHAHAHA! Yep I have moments like that too. I tend to use my Go in spurts. Karen (above) is absolutely right about using the Go. I have 3 dies I've been given or purchased in the last 6 months and I haven't even used them! One I am getting a lot of use out of is the 6" Snowball. I keep making snowballs but I don't think I've actually put a quilt together with the blocks... weird, yes? Enjoy the week.
I love this block! I've never seen it before but definitely will give this one a try.
I have the log cabin die - never thought to turn the pieces into a greek key - COOL idea!
Love the log cabin idea! Me too on the finished vs unfinished. Size. I feel like Accuquilt is a little stingy with their measurement info.
I have lots and lots of AccuQuilt Go! and Studio dies (I used to teach classes at the LQS using the Go!). I used to use it all the time before I got into Quiltworx design quilts. I recently took a virtual class regarding the BOBs and Qubes and now I am really excited about using it again. I just purchased several of the newer BOBs and can't wait for them to get here. I do have the log cabin die but never thought about making the Greek Key design. Oh no, another quilt on my "Must Do" list. I have to live until I'm at least 200 to make all the quilts on that list!
Looks like your purchase, I mean present to yourself, is going to pay off in whipping through some stash. I really like your Greek Key project.
I've had the original Studio cutter for years and love it. A gift from a friend. It lives on a table in the sewing room so I can get to it easily. It came with the dies for the 12" and 8" block..I use the dies for lots of things. A friend gave me some dies and I've gotten some too. Sooo much fun.
Those look great, Alycia! I have enough trouble getting a "regular" Log Cabin block right. I can't imagine all the ways I could mess up a Greek Key block!!
Very fun blocks! I have the small version, but haven't used it much. Maybe I will use it more once I start cutting my scraps. That happens after I whittle down the UFO list.
I don't have a cutter machine. I do get confused when I use Triangulations to make HST's. I have to remember that Triangulations uses 'finished' size, not 'unfinished' size. I've made many a block 1/2" too big.
