Stars and Stripes Panel Quilt...

 is now a top!

This was a fun one - I love the Ohio Star ( Thanks Nan for them!!) and it was fun to build the strip sets to see how it would go around the panel.

And here is my finished top!

I actually have a back for it, but I know I won't get to quilt it until 2021.  ( I am practicing typing that date)

I am (sorta) keeping up with my Hourglass a day blocks - I have 60 done.  This is from the tutorial at Cluck Cluck Sew.  She already has her top done!! But that's okay - Not a competition, and I am enjoying using these as leader/Enders!

I was told to Take a Hike

Bwahh ha ha!!  We headed up to the High Country for a little visit. We needed to take a hike and see what we could see. The fires that were up here were devastating, and we could see the burn areas as we drove thru to this hiking spot.  7.2 miles, and I think we only carried the dog about 3 miles of it. 

and yes... my dog is spoiled ;-)   He is also pretty tiny, I was impressed he made it. Of course, there will be more photos in days to come 🥰

Stars and Stripes? Panel Quilts? Both?

 I got a new panel.  and I had to drive all over the world. and while I drove... I planned.....

( the driving was because a kids car decided not to work... nothing fun, just so you don't get jealous)

and when I got home, I sat down and started playing and what I laid out.... I liked!

I get a lot of emails about the Eagle Quilt of Valor in my header, and they all ask if there is a pattern. and... there is not... but this is how I start.  

I put the panel on the center of my design wall, and I lay blocks out around it, and then I start stitching. Then when I figure out the sizes of the coping strips that are missing, I cut those and keep assembling. 

The sizes of these blocks are 9 1/2 inches.  I can do 9 1/2 inch block math - and will probably come up with a top and bottom border to make this a little more than the 72 inches is is planning on being in this photo. 

This was my first idea - and While I still like it - I really like the dark blue as a frame - it looked chunky to me, So I moved blocks around, and I think the way I moved them sorta elongated the quilt.... even thought the size will remain the same...

Alright - Back to stitching... my goof of days are getting shorter...

Design Wall Monday - a Summer Mystery

 This summer ( as in just a few months ago) my guild was looking at ways that we could all sew together remotely - and one of the ladies ( Sheree) decided to host a Mystery... of course I had to join in!!

Plus - she swore it used 5 inch squares ( remember my size 14 shoe box full of 5 inch squares?)  I just had to jump in.... and so I made all the blocks, trimmed them and put them on a stack... oh boy... that stack.... it hides things ALL THE TIME!!

But I found them - and now - they are up on my design wall!

But I didn't have enough blocks to make it

*even* in its placing

I think the blocks are only 9 1/2 inches - so I will definitely have to add borders to get it up to a Quilt of Valor size. I am thinking of maybe adding some red in there somehow - you know - Patriotic it up a bit?

On the funny side - the time has changed - and you may remember , my husband has been working from home since March. With the time change, and him never leaving... my dog and I are getting all messed up on our timing - we are finding ourselves wondering why it is dark at 5pm and no one has opened the door yet ( you know - we used to wait on Dad to get home haha)  And then in the morning at 4:30 we are ready to go do chores.... its funny how much we structured our days based on everyone else coming and going.....

Greek Key Finish!!!! and Finished (or not) Friday!!

 I hope your week has been so productive!!!  I have had a good one, and I hope the momentum keeps right on going!!!  

My finish for this week is my Greek Key top - it is all plaid... with Eagles for the borders - and you know what?

I LOVE IT!!!

The weather was super nice and super calm all day - and I couldn't wait to get out and take photos. Now the kids are gone, but the Husband is working from home... so I bribed him into.... taking photos!  But as soon as we opened the door to go out - the wind started blowing - can you believe it!!

We had to go hide in front of the barn - and it was all okay - but I wanted to take this photo in front of a tree....

PS - I don't know who that guy is in the photo - but I forgot to crop him out - so now he will be forever famous!!

Disappearing Shoo Fly Top

 This was on my design wall.... and I really needed my design wall - so it gave me a little push!!

These blocks are just so fun!! They are the Disappearing Shoo Fly blocks from Missouri Star Quilt co. A lot of people sent us such great blocks - you will note - that only 4 blocks I made are in this quilt... so/// recognize your blocks??

A 4 x 5 setting made a 54 x 66 Inch Quilt, and then I added 5 inch borders.   So that should be a great Quilt of Valor size!!

So!! One thing is now off of my To-Do Tuesday lists!! and I can make another one haha!!

Colorado and Angel Quilt... and Finished Friday

 Happy Friday you all!!

Today's Finish is a quilt that was Pieced by Deb.... Deb showed our Whole QOV group how to make these cool blocks .... named  Colorado.... then she added some special blocks that she made - called Angel blocks and Created this top!

now - there is a background to the Angel blocks ( in the corners) Her Mom - was one of My first supporters in Quilts of Valor - She taught me how to do so much, and just knew all these little quilting secrets - and she was the best.  She presented a Quilt to one of our Veterans and he kept calling her, and the band of quilters... his angels.... and so! Deb made these angel Blocks to keep watch over Colorado.

    And I took photos in the mountains - because you all... what is Colorado known for???

I really enjoyed Quilting this one, and know that it will go to a Veteran who will love it!

I have gotten some comments that I can't respond to - One - a person wanted to use this quilt for the Quilts of Valor Backlog - That is SO SO awesome!! But! you didn't give me a way to contact you - so! You can either email me, or email Nancy at CallToAction@qovf.org and she can tell you where to send your quilt.

Someone wanted to know if the two clues were all there is... well - no - I won't leave you without a finished quilt... that would be just plain mean, and even tho I can be devious ( just kidding) I really wouldn't do that to a quilter - I hate having UFO's!

A Patriotic Quilt of Valor and...... Finished (or not) Friday!!

 Happy Friday!!! Cold is in the air - we may get snow... it's awesome.. any moisture for our state ( Colorado)  will be accepted at this moment!! Fires are just too big and too scary right now.....

My Finish this week is a Quilting Finish!  Charlene made this top as a Quilt of Valor - and I love it!! I was the lucky one to get to quilt it... and of course, when I went hiking... I had to take it with me... right?

It was being held up, and I had my camera up, Mask and Sunglasses on... and this gentlemen gets out of his car and says - WOW - did you make that!! and I said well - sorta, My friend made the top -  I did the quilting, and then of course, he wanted to get close.  and we said sure... he was masked as well.

He made me laugh - he says I can't see your face - are you mad that I want to see it, or are you happy?  I laughed and said -I'm happy - and I'm smiling... you just can't tell!!!  Gotta love those masks right??

Anyways

Ta-da!!

Isn't this just cool?

I love the scrappiness of the blocks - and the blue setting

Just makes my heart so happy!

And I am sure that you want to see where I was!

Roads to this place are closed now - due to two huge fires...

Makes me so sad

Mystery A11 - My Fabric choices

Who is ready to start a New Mystery????

Fall is in the air, I have been changing out my quilts, I am inspired... and so...  new mystery has been created..

Finish up all those UFOs, and quilt projects and lets get ready for a New one!!

Disappearing Shoo Fly blocks

 are up on the design wall today!!

My QOV group is making these, and some are starting to arrive, and I made some.... and I have a few in progress - so I need to finish those!!  

But! here is where we are so far!

I made that one with the brown background -I think it might be pulled and be a label or something.... but three of them I made - 4 of them Cindi made and 10 of them Kathy made... and I need to make some more to catch up with them!!

the block is called Disappearing Shoo Fly  - it is a Missouri Star quilt company pattern.

I like how it is coming along!!

Finally Finished Twirling at the Disco - and Finished ( or not) Friday

My Twirling at the Disco is at the Finished Finished stage for me!! It is going on to G in Co Springs to bind and award to a Veteran.  The block pattern was designed by Samelias Mum - and I love it!!

I arranged them a little different - just to see what would happen... I kinda like it!

But I really like Samelias layout better - so maybe for quilt number two - I will do it that way.

This is my 13th Quilt of Valor for the year...not keeping up with last year - but!! I am thinking this is a good number so far!!

Finished Quilts of Valor

I have a ton of Cool Quilts of Valor to show you!! and

Yesterday we had a pretty cool QOV presentation... we did masks, and social Distancing, and hand sanitizer and you know... It worked out pretty well..

I was even saluted from a really cool Service Dog of one of the Marines that attended.

Now... I am trying to teach my dog to do that!!!  He just keeps looking at me strangely!

Our Presentation!!

We were so lucky to be able to do it at our Church - Our Church building is brand new.... Sunday was the 2nd Sunday that we had services in it - so I joked that the building has been open 8 days... God made the World in the first 7 days... and on the 8th Day... we were supposed to make Quilts of Valor...

Right??  

The building was perfect - people were able to sit in their family groups, and keep space, we all wore masks... Well I took mine off to talk but I was a good 12 foot away from anyone, and then put it back on... What a great day!!!
