A Fall Mystery quilt Long May She Wave

I have been asked a few times when the next Quilt of Valor mystery will start - and I drew a blank!

I was afraid my mind had dried up... but!!
Sunday night I was drawing and BAM!!! It came to me!!!!

So!! I drew it up, have tested a block - and will go into full pattern design mode this week...

All this to say.... mark your Calendars.

Lets Plan on Fabric and Cutting Instructions coming out about Sept 7th

and the first clue September 21st

and a new clue each Wednesday until we are done!

It will finish at 62 x 81 inches

Mystery A11 Fabric Requirements

Happy Thursday Morning!!

Today is the day!!! the Fabric requirements for Mystery A11 are here!!

The first clue will be October 15th - so you have plenty of time to finish all of those UFO's.... right?

Fabric  Requirements

Based on 40 inch wide fabric

Red   1 3/8 yards

Blue   2 1/8 yards

White 2 ¼ yards

This does NOT include backing or binding.

As you know I do all of these mysteries in Patriotics or Plaids… but

What you are really looking for it TWO contrasting Darks ( red/Blue) (Purple/red) (Black/red)  and one light – this light needs to make your darks pop.

If you decide to go scrappy – I think it will work, but remember I LOVE SCRAPS, therefore anything scrappy to me is pretty!.  You will just need to adjust the directions to give you the same number of pieces. Most pieced will be 3 ½ inches or larger…. Hope that helps a little.

This quilt will finish at approximately 60 x 80 inches

Here is a link to the PDF!!!

A11 fabric requirements pdf

As many of you know -I am a huge supporter of Quilts of Valor - have been for 16 years. As the organization has grown - so has the number of Quilts requested. And knowing, ( and witnessing ) first hand what a difference an award of a Quilt of Valor can make to a Veteran touched by war, I was surprised to learn that there is actually a back log.   As in there are more requests than there are quilts.

We have been SO blessed and SO supported here in Colorado, that we are not really behind. The little bit of behind we are is due to Covid - not a lack of quilts.... but those that are backlogged - it tears at my heart.... I want each Veteran to know that they are loved.. and sooner , rather than later.

So! Quilts of Valor is starting to roll out what they are naming * Call to Action 2018*  this is where the team is going to start working on all the backlogged requests... so here is where you can help!

1. Make a quilt

2. If you are a QOV member and you would like your completed quilt to be part of the CTA2018 program, please contact Nancy or Ginger and they will provide you with the name of a veteran to receive your quilt and where to send it.

3.  If you are not a QOV member and would like to donate your completed quilt to a requesting veteran, contact Nancy or Ginger and they will provide information for where to send your quilt top or complete quilt.

So see - you can help - as we are working through this mystery - maybe you will decide you would like it to go to a Veteran touched by war, that is a part of this back log.....  and we would LOVE that!

CTA2018 is just getting underway - so in the following clues I will be providing the ways to get a hold on Nancy and Ginger....

now!! as of today - message me - or leave me a comment with your email and I will get you in touch with Ginger or Nancy... they are setting up a direct email for this CTA2018  at the moment .

Mystery L1 - Clue 3

I know this is a busy time of year, and you all have so many projects going on - but I hope , if you are following this one - you are having fun!!

First up - In Clue 2 - In the lights - you need 68 total 4 1/2 inch light squares - I might have accidentally put that you needed only 7 strips of fabric to meet this goal.

You actually need 8 strips - and will have a little left over.... or if you are like me and you used pre-cut 4 1/2 inch squares from your bins... you will not notice this little boo boo -

On to Clue 3  :

Mystery L1 - Clue 3

I think I like inserting the documents into the blog post , then I can show you my photos and it doesn't get to long!!

So there is my finished Clue #3 - We are moving right along now!!

Mystery L1 Fabric Requirements!!

Oh boy - I hope you are excited!!
and !  I hope this works!

Since the changes in Craftsy I wasn't 100% sure where or how to upload free patterns - so We are trying google drive.  If for some reason this doesn't work in the morning.... Check back - cuz you know I am messing with it right??

PS - thanks for the feedback!! It works - whoot whoot!!

So here is the link to the PDF ( Fingers Crossed)

L1 Clue 1 ( Fabric Requirements) PDF

and here it is typed out for you... just in case I can't make it do what I want it to do!

L1 Marvelous Mystery Quilt Clue 1

Welcome to the new Mystery! We will learn/practice precision piecing, strip sets, folded corners, block units, organization, and value placement. This is not a difficult quilt, but looks more complicated when done.

Fabric needed:
This quilt will make about a 68” x 80” quilt, bigger if you add an outer border (not included in yardage).
LIGHT:            at least 2 yards of fabric
MEDIUM:       14 fat quarters or 14- ¼ yd. WOF. You can mix ¼ yd WOF and fat quarters, just need 14 different colors
DARK:            12 different 2.5” WOF strips
The values need to be distinct. Any fabric- batiks, florals, prints- but do not have wide variations of value in the individual fabric- like white flowers in a dark or dark print in a medium. You can cut a 2” test window from paper to look the value it would be when cut up.

This quilt was designed by Linda Swanekamp

Alycia’s Notes – I used 14 Mediums in plaid… and am keeping the mediums in Blues ( and maybe a green - it was pretty!!)

Here are my Fabrics:

Would you be interested in doing a Linky Party? Next week we can do a Link up to showcase our fabrics that we will each be using on this mystery? You can link directly to your blog post, or IG post??
