Jelly Roll Finishes!! and Finished ( or not) Friday!

I finished the Quilt of Valor Jelly Roll Race Prototype that my Sew group will be stitching this month!

National Jelly Roll day is the 21st and we should be stitching away!!!!

LINK TO FREE PATTERN HERE

My Sweet Daisy does not pose as well as my Sweet Bella - she is more drawn to the ball in my hand!!!

This is the back!

And then... just cuz I was on a Jelly Roll kick = I quilted the one that Vickie made at least years Jelly Roll sew day. She Embellished it with an EAGLE!!

I LOVE that Eagle on there!!!

And then - since we are on a Quilt of Valor Kick - I awarded Some Quilts of Valor to these amazing Veterans:

One gentleman, a Marine, served in the Korean War at Chosin reservoir.

If that’s not a battle you are familiar with I suggest you research it , it’s incredible .
When we were at Quantico we were able to go to the Marine Corp museum. One of the rooms was set up to replicate Chosin Reservoir, and the temperature was freezing .

Now it is your turn!!
What amazing things did you finish (or not) this week??

Buckeye Beauty, Jewel Box and oh!! look a Squirrel!!!

I might have told my Husband that Cynthia needed these blocks for her block drive - and that I was the ONLY one that could make them ( in this house) and because he doesn't always hear me.... I got to sew... uninterrupted. It did help that  Broncos football was on TV...

Blocks are winging her way!!

I have growth on my Buckeye Beauty blocks. I decided that had to be their name. My Dad was a Die Hard Michigan College football fan - so what better way to tease his legacy than by having a Buckeye in the house . ( If you don't know - its cuz Ohio and Michigan were bitter rivals during his time, I have no idea if they still are or not, because well - football haha)

And I already have a favorite Block:

SQUIRREL!!!!
My friend called and said she was getting rid of some fabric - did I want it? So she dropped it off, and I looked at it - and immediately pulled out these Crazy fat Quarters. I added white and that hot pink in the center.... and oh boy!!!

This one was not on my list. Remember the list that I so carefully made and was determined to stick to. Sure, you know me too well.....

At least its cute , right?

And then - I got to go pick apples! Our apple trees have gone NUTS!! I have about 8 pie fillings already made. There are still more apples on the tree!!! If you need me today, I will probably still be peeling and cutting apples.... And quilting and Walking dogs... I am starting a new walking challenge ...hmmmm

Wedding Quilt and !! Finished ( or not) Friday!

Remember my Cool Country Wedding I got to go to ? Well, of course I had to make them a quilt ! As soon as we were told of the engagement, I asked the couple what their favorite colors were .  I assumed I would get two - but nope ! They have the same favorite color !!

So I asked for a second anyways... and this is what I came up with :

Their Favorite color was Maroon, and she also liked sage green - I thought that was a great color combination!! Of course - you just have to incorporate some plaid in there, and maybe even a paisley or two!

I didn't know if the weather was going to like me or not to get an outdoor photo - so I took one inside too. I like the layout that I came up with. There is a Random Pattern to it 😊

I quilted Feathers all over it. Those are just my favorite!!

AND of course - backed it with PLAID!

In my mind I was making this about 80 inches long. But then I remembered that he is a tall one!! so I made it longer - 91 inches! Enough to cover his feet!!

Now here's the best part. I didn't take their gift to the wedding, I thought I'll just meet up with them after. And so I did, but when I pulled it out - she said - He was looking for your gift!! He just knew you had to have made us something, and was sad to not see something in the pile.  His Mom told him not to worry - I was probably just going to deliver it.  Which TOTALLY made me laugh - as I thought I was keeping a secret..... That means they know me too well right?

Anyways - they loved it and it made me happy. All is right in my world!

What is up in your world?
Link your Direct post and let us Ohh and Ahh over it!!

A new block to use up my 5 inch squares

I had sorta, kinda, maybe , thought that doing my Lightning Streak quilts for 2024 RSC would help clean up my 5 inch square bin. But! I am also sabotaging that progress by cutting more squares from my scraps.

I started looking for another fast and quick little block that I could use as a Leader/Ender - and use my 5 inch squares. I found the Diamond Chain block on MSQC. I know I have made this before, but! In my search - that is one that appealed to me.

I started playing with my pieces and then I started reading blogs. ( remember I told you I was a little behind?)

So I was Reading "Quilting is more Fun than Housework" - and she is starting another compassion quilt block drive - and GUESS WHAT?  Its ALMOST the same block! And I know HOW TO DO IT!!!

She's calling it a Jewel Box Block

Stolen from Cynthias page so you will make some for her

Isn't that a cool colorway/design? Love the use of the Black and white - so I will dig around in my squares to make a few for her. I think she said they are making quilts for teens - so bright colors! ✔

but then!!! you have to go to Nanns With Strings Attached and see her Buckeye Beauty - another way to show off this block.!

its TOO much fun to see that there are so many ways to do this one!! I LOVE it!!

Oh!!! and would you like to see my Baby Reno? He is 3 1/2 months old now and I still love him.

He says - Good Morning!!!  His mane - it just CRACKS me up!!!

and here is is with momma - eating and goofing around!

Orange RSC top

Well - I think it turned out how I wanted it to !

It is no longer in the block stage. It is now a top, and it has a backing made, and!! I even have an idea of how I am going to quilt it.

So yay!! Orange became a top before the month was over. and Today - I have to go back to just being a month of normal - I can't tell everyone its all about me ....

haha - just kidding - if you know me - everything is ALL ABOUT ME!!

But!!! If you are in the Greeley area - guess who is coming to speak at our guild?

https://melvalovesscraps.blogspot.com/  I am so excited!! and I am also linking up with her Sew and Tell today!!   Come join us!!!

Teal RSC and!! Finished ( or not) Friday)

AKA  - the day before the Month of Me ends *sigh*

Actually it has been a great month. I have done nothing of great significance, no huge trips, no big purchases... just Getting stuff done... and Enjoying every day.

A few days were not as enjoyable as they turned into lots of chores and work I didn't want to to, but had to be done, sorta like paying bills.  Except we had a well problem. and I like water.... (ps its fixed now)

BUT!! I did get my July Teal RSC finished!! Quilted!! Bound!!!

I found a Super cool Teal Paisley print for the back, and I bound it in Black and white stripes. I love it!!

So For my Month of me - I did stats. ( I think)
  • I quilted 4 Quilts of Valor
  • I quilted 9 Personal quilts
  • I finished 2 Tops start to finish
and
  • I am working on 2 Found Quilt tops
  • I cleaned off my pattern/magazine book shelf ( took it from 3 to 1 shelf)
  • I shredded 2 boxes of financial stuff ( including QOV expense reports from 2006 whoa!)
  • I rode at least 1 horse every day, sometimes 2 or 3
  • I got to work with Baby Reno 3-4 times a week
  • I had my Dog trainer out 3 times and my dogs are getting SO much nicer to each other
  • I went to a wedding

and
  • I got in at least 20,000 steps per day - go me!
  • I did not do a good job of keeping up with all my blogs - so beware - comments are coming haha
  • I did not do a good job of keeping up with dishes, or laundry... ( the house is clean tho!)

One of my clients made this awesome quilt - and she showed it at guild. I was so excited to see it all finished!! I LOVED quilting it!

Alright my Amazing Quilty Friends!!! It is your turn - what are you up to this week?

Orange Rainbow Scrap Challenge

Well - I am having fun with this one - I have a crazy idea, and we will see if it pans out. But - did you know that we are running out of August? Hunh - Not happy about that.

I do have all the blocks done.

I am working on the layout

Maybe by the end of the week it will be a top

Before you tell me blocks are out of order - they aren't - I have an idea... I feel that I can make this look like what I see in my head. Maybe. Sometimes what I see isn't what others can see - hunh! I think that explains my problems right there.... maybe my brain is disordered haha!

Catching Rainbows, Jackknife and 1638

The best thing about my *Month of me* ? I am finding things that I forgot about ;-)

Back in 2021 - I saw these blocks on Bonnie Hunters site, and then I saw them on Quilt Fabrications, and then the EQ blog - and I made TWO... TWO  people , and I pulled fabric to make more, and then I am not sure what happened!!

Probably I had to clean off my sewing table to do that dreaded binding of some quilt, and I just piled them places... but now!! They are out again!!

I had two blocks and just fabric in the pile and now!!

And 4 more cut out! These are detailed little buggers! But aren't they cute?

Also - last weekend ( two days ago last weekend) We got to go to a friends wedding and it was Gorgeous!!

They mowed part of their hayfield for us to sit in and do the ceremony !!  Isn't that a cool venue .

We were joking and my husband said - I bet the bride comes in on a horse drawn carriage. I did not take that bet, cuz I didn't think that was the brides style.... hers was BETTER - she drove in with her dad on the tractor, and the two of them escaped on it!! So super sweet!

Check out my Men!! My husband and my youngest - we had such a blast!!! We wish our friends the best marriage ever!

QOV Chain and Stars and!! Finished ( or not) friday

In June my friend Deb and I led our Quilts of Valor sew day experience ! Deb had embroidered all these amazing squares. I designed the Quilt around them, and cut the blocks for our group to stitch.

Blocks were made  - and I came home and threw them on the design wall.

This is Number 1 of the Two Quilts we made blocks for.

Hunh - I didn't realize how washed out this first photo is until I just uploaded it - whoa!! Must have been a little sunny.

Anyways - each embroidery block is different, and we used them in the center of the stars. Then did a chain block - and Ta - Da!!

Notice how green my grass is ?  That's our artificial Turf - everything is BROWN around here right now! We had a big rain, and I can see some little shoots of grass coming up. Praying for another good soak!

I did the quilting on it - I used Sparklers from Dawnas Design Threads . and now!! It is As Finished as I will get it!! it will go on to a binder, and come back to me to wash and get ready for its Veteran.

I have one more to do, but! It is not as high on my list as Indigo way - and I am trying ( oh so hard) to stick with my To do list. Do you know HOW many DISTRACTIONS there are in my fabric room?

* Now it is YOUR turn!!

Indigo Way Progress

I have the inner top done!!! Whoo Hoo!!!

I think I know the reason I don't tackle a lot of quilts like this.  I am kinda ready for it to be done. Which probably alludes to the whole * I have no patience * thing.... ah well - at least its pretty!

I didn't like the busy ness of the setting triangles that Bonnie had in her pattern. Well, in reality, I didn't like the amount of time it was going to take to make the setting triangles that Bonnie had in her pattern - so I went with solid white.

I am going to add a small border and then do something else in the outer border - just not 100% sure WHAT yet. It will come to me at 2 in the morning!

I do have extra pieces left from not making the setting triangles.
My Husband so kindly reminded me that my Month of Me is half over - oh the pressure to get SO much more done, and goof off at the SAME time !!

Another friend of mine ( Ann ) messaged and said, I am downsizing and I have some Patriotic Fabrics.
You all !! my group is just so lucky !!! We are going to be set for this next year !!

I'm pretty tickled about that - I hate to fundraise and ask for things - and wow!! Stuff just came to me this time ;-)  What a blessing!

Off to Chill ! Its hair cut, eye doctor and grocery day. ( other than the hair cut - UGH!)
