Plaid Pile Project quilts and !!! Finished ( or not) Friday!!!

Yep. I am still working thru the piles.... this pile of plaids ( the PPP quilts) I found in October and ended up with two quilt tops.... and now!!

The Finishes!!

Number one!

Please note.. It is bound.... oh ya!!! and it is plaid ....

and Number two!!!

These were fun and fast - kind of Lasagna Quilt Style ( Atkinson designs) and kind of Jelly Roll Race...

They used the whole pile of fabrics I had out, and each quilt can out to be 50 x 54 inches - so not super big, lap sized? maybe.

Are you ready for the outtakes??

I had visions of the gorgeous mountains behind us, and the plaids just glowing in the sun...
and the wind....

Well - it had other ideas.... so

we had to find some sheltered places instead. Which was fine. By the way - we hiked here this day... and the temps said 35 - but the temps forgot to remind me of the wind chill... I am not sure it was above 7 deg with the wind!! But it was gorgeous!!

It is now your turn to brag!!!

Joshua Tree in Black and White

We had the chance to head out to Joshua Tree National Park - and I will be honest - even in Fall... it was HOT!!!  But just gorgeous!!

This time we went in the entrance in 29 Palms - and they had a place you could tour about the history of the Desert. That story will be for later - but! I just wanted you to know those were palm trees ( above)

This ecosystem is so cool and diverse... it is where two deserts come together - the Mojave and the Colorado.

The Joshua tree's leaves were worked in to baskets and sandals by natives, and the seeds can be roasted.
( I thought that was interesting - that they are more than just beautiful)

There are many hikes to take in the park. Some lead into the others, and some are short . ours was about 3 miles... and we started early. The temps still got into the 90's and I wilt at 70...

The landscape is just so rugged, and dry. To me, it is amazing that anything really can grow here.

But the Views are incredible.

And watching the sunsets roll in in Amazing!!

Okay  - One Color photo - and then I will have to make another post with my Color shots:

Hawaiian Churn Dash

My Hawaiian Churn dash is making forward progress... it can no longer be on the design wall...

1. Something else moved in

and

2. Its too big..... and a TOP!!! Whoot Whoot!!!

The Churn Dash is my Most Favorite blocks and so super easy to do - I do have a little tutorial for how I do them...

And look at this fun quilt!!! My client saved a triangle of a lot of the quilts she has made in the past, and some of the fun antique prints she has found - and put it together in a super scrappy top!
It was so fun - and i like the way the sunlight made the quilting pop!!

Another Stepper - and !! Finished ( or not) Friday!!

And another one done, and another one done, and another one bites the dust.....

Can you tell what era music my husband has had on lately? and did you know that I can hear what he plays while I quilt???  Don't tell him - I am afraid he will start playing songs that tell me to buy him stuff.....

I think this may be my last Stepper quilt top made in 2022..... and all have been quilted.... and don't do a spit-take - but!!! All of them have been bound... I KNOW !!!!!

I had fun with these little stepper quilts this year - I think I made eleven of them?   And I am not sure I see a dent in my stash... wasn't that supposed to happen?   Maybe I will try again next year with the RSC challenge with another easy fast block.... I am on the lookout!!

NOW!! It is your turn - Link up your Finishes (or not) and tell us what you have been up to!

Knit Hats for 2023's Operation Christmas Child Boxes

Its time to start knitting hats for M's 2023 Operation Christmas Child Project -

Heck fire - how did it get here already!!!

This is my haul for November... Not very many - but!! its a start!!!

My goal is 53 this year - so that is 1 a week.... I guess I am on track ;-)

The loaded boxes!!!!

These are full of goodies for kids - and a Hat!!!  and on their way to show some love!!

Now!!!

Every time I post photos of the hats.. I get asked what pattern I use... and you all know I am a quilter ...not a knitter, so I never know how exactly to answer - but here is the what I do ;-)

We use these LOOMS:

and I followed this tutorial: Knit hat   and I made mine like this:

To make the ones with a brim - you stitch 20 rows and fold in half ( back up on the loom) them make 30 more rows

Maybe I am not a knitter but a Loomer?????

I use the pink one for the kids hats, and the purple one for my husbands hats!!

Crumb Blocks and Fire Trucks....

Doesn't that sound like a fun combination?

Last Sunday (not yesterday - the week before) We woke up to do chores, and there was frost on the ground, and it was so pretty, until.... we saw something odd.... along the fence line.

I ran in and Grabbed the Binoculars and K started moving animals into a different pasture - and lo and behold - there was a car flipped over. I couldn't tell a whole lot so... I called the Non Emergency hot line to see if a wreck had been reported.

It had not - so! I reported it.

The awesome Dispatch asked if I could keep her on the line and go see inside the car to see if people were there. and I said I can - but - I have to get in the pick up, get thru two gates, and it may take a moment.

She gave me her direct line to call back.

K and I took off quickly and got down to the car. He started hollering to see if someone was in it. We did not see anyone, but we heard the sirens pretty quickly.

The Emergency team got there, and we sighed. The Girl Driving the car - had just arrived at the ER  ( 35 minutes from us) and the Emergency Hot line informed the Fire Trucks. They still searched the car - as there was a car seat in it.

Now - here is the kicker - she rolled her car and !! LANDED RIGHT on the fence.... I mean DEAD on...

First - I am so glad she is okay, second is it just a fence - but .... seriously - she couldn't have hit is any more perfect to knock it down...

Now here is the funny - You can't see the car until you are right on it from the highway. So - the accident happened Sunday Morning - and by Tuesday they had had the wreck called in 8 times.

One of the times I ran down there to see if they knew when the car would be removed so we could fix the fence. When the Sherriff stepped out - I was shocked! It was a kid ( well ahem a man) my oldest son had gone to school with - I've known him since he was 5 .... but now!! Holee cow - he's like an adult!

Good thing about it being called in so many times - they removed it faster than normal .. which led to us fixing fence on Friday !!

Back to the Quilty stuff!!!! My Crumbs!!!

I took off all the other ones From this post : Plaid Crumbs  so I could see what I had left - and here I am....

oh !! and I checked in on my leader ender churn dashes to see how many blocks I could make with the parts....

Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving... we had too much food, but a relaxing time!
