A few little finishes - and !! Finished ! ( or not) Friday

 It has been a week!!!

if you don't follow my blog during the week - A new Quilt A Long was released Wednesday - and yep! it is A Quilt of Valor ... Check it out.

I met a lady in town, and she was telling me about her Chickens, the lack of eggs, and how much she wanted them to lay. For some reason, I came home and decided that she needed Chicken Pot Holders . I went to my Stash to see what I could find - Lookie what I came up with:

Green is the RSC color for February, so I tried to finished up the Purple hat I was working on and add some green to it.  The one on the right - its all the little tiny balls you end up with that don't make a whole item. Since I only know how to make hats - I combined it all!!!

Someone asked earlier if Looming hats is easy - yes - Yes it is - because I can do it! The looms can be found HERE  And I used the LoomaHat tutorial on You tube.

We had to haul horses this week, If we load them slanted we can get more in the trailer... but Ms C here.... she got scared she was going to be left alone and she got stuck!! haha

Not really , once I untied her we walked right out, but she stuffed herself up there and we just laughed at the expression on her face. 

She was not amused. We also learned - she should be loaded last, so she can get out first ... goofball.

Its that HAT time of year!!

 Its that time of year where we start getting all the little knitted (or loomed) hats together for Operation Christmas Child boxes!!!  

Believe it or not - I actually got some loomed!!

I have a group of friends that have started knitting for my OCC project - ( okay actually M's) and we made 150 hats for her. 

Then!!! There is a Veterans Resource Center in Greeley that is awesome!! I had about 20 hats extra and they said they would LOVE them!!! So they went there.

Now it is time to start Looming again!

I got some really pretty Dark Brown yarn and thought I would start with that color - especially since it is the RSC color for October - I haven't gotten very far as I have help - and when the dogs take off with my yarn - its sort of a Mess!!

aren't they so cute tho? Oh!! My sons Three day project - it got extended because of the weather - so Poor baby is stuck with me... I think she loves me, but holee cow - she keeps looking for her boy every morning!

You might remember a few years ago my friend M reached out to see if she could find some people to help her knit hats?  Well - you know crafters know crafters who know even more crafters. And these are three that I know - they made 300 hats this year!!!  ( I made 25) So I was SO impressed and SO Grateful!! These will go to fill Operation Shoebox boxes.   I am so tickled,

Operation Christmas Child Hats

 Oh my heavens!!!

Operation Christmas Child Hats are starting to roll in!!!!

I am so excited - the goal for this year was 700 Hats and so many of you decided to help my friend M out - and YAY me - I am the go between and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!!

Sue in Az asked if she could help out this year - and of course I said yes!!!

Look what she mailed out!!

So!!1 Gloria... she sent me THREE boxes of hats... but funny of all funnies - Box 2 and 3 arrived.... and we wondered where box #1 went.... it apparently went on a detour - but I just picked it up - so here are the contents of box 2 and 3

THAT IS EIGHTY SIX hats!!! Oh my!!! ( and I still have box #1 to spread out!!!)

Then!!! I had a garage sale at my dads this summer and took my looming with me... my friend Clare was sitting there with me and she asked what I was up to so I told her... 

and look what she just brought me!!

Ah!! Mazing!!! Go Clare!!!

Purple Rainbow Scrap Challenge progress - My Spinning Goose!!

I am so proud.... I am getting my Purple Spinning goose done BEFORE the end of the month!! Go me!! I'll take the win!!! Are you ready???

Ta da!!! I love the purple plaids in this one... I didn't know - but I think Purple might be one of my favorite colors... well, at least for today haha!

and now all of them so far!!

Knitting... I didn't report for March.. the color was Green - I had teal... so I made Teal hats...

But then - I had scraps... okay!! WHO KNEW that you could accumulate Knitting Scraps!!!

Of course, I ran out of scraps ( you can see where) so I grabbed a Teal Purple variegated yarn to finish it.

the jury is still out on if I like this hat or not...

NOW it is time to move to Purple - so I have this muted purple in my bags - I pulled it and and combining it with the rest of the Teal variegated which means... this hat MAY be finished by MAY!!!

To make the ones with a brim - you stitch 20 rows and fold in half ( back up on the loom) them make 30 more rows

 

I use the pink one for the kids hats, and the purple one for my husbands hats.

December/ January Operation Christmas Child Knit Hats

Knitting hats.... okay - So I met a real knitter, and I had to specify Loom Knitting. Not because of her, because of me!! i told her I was knitting hats and she started talking all sorts of *real* knitting terms, and i swear.... it was like a foreign language....

So now, that I really know what I am doing now - and Know that it is called Loom Knitting....

I am s Loom Knitter haha!!

Here are my next group of hats, sadly it is December and January's combined... So I need to get moving!!

December's Hats  ^'

January's Hats ^   Blue was the RSC Color - so I went and grabbed all the blue I had left - and I truly only had enough for the hat on the left.... Which is good, I don't really want to start a stash of yarn. I think my husband would make me move out haha!!

I use the pink one for the kids hats, and the purple one for my husbands hats. 

and I just used the Green one to make my neighbor boys hats - they are 18mos and 3 mos - and they are so cute!!!!

Knit Hats for 2023's Operation Christmas Child Boxes

Its time to start knitting hats for M's 2023 Operation Christmas Child Project -

Heck fire - how did it get here already!!!

This is my haul for November... Not very many - but!! its a start!!!

My goal is 53 this year - so that is 1 a week.... I guess I am on track ;-)

Last 2022 Knit hats for Operation Christmas Child

 Last year... I learned to make hats...

M  ( the local coordinator) had a goal of 200 hats - and we made it.

For the 2022 year - her goal is 700 and mine was 50...

My FINAL COUNT for the 2022 OCC year....

drum roll please.....

80!!!!!

Here are the last 6 I am winging her way!!! ( note - they are Sept RSC colors!!!)

I mentioned it on FB and some other friends got to knitting - they made 75 Just like that!!

Sylvia  sent me 14

and Gloria has 85!! winging my way.... We just may make it to M's Goal!!!

Rainbow Scrap Challenge for August... Orange

The way my summer got too busy - I just knew I wouldn't be able to crank out a Stepper quilt for August... I mean, I had already failed for July... but I still have a sticky note of the colors!!!

So I just decided... Hats!!! That is what my RSC project will be for these months....

 I went into my trusty yarn bag and pulled out anything that looked *orangish* to me...

Most of it was kind of a burnt orange - but it made me feel that Fall would be in the air someday.... someday.........

Ta da!!! Three orangish hats - and one with the leftovers of the Purple from July!!!

Again - these are Going to my Friend M - she makes Operation Christmas Child boxes and her deadling is Looming.... she needs all the hats by October 1st - 

Speaking of Looming... every time I post these everyone asks how I made them, and I laugh - because I don't know.. I just do what M said... but now I am prepared!!

These are made on a Loom ( I called it a circly thing)

I use the pink one for the hats for M - I used the Purple one for the bigger adults that I made a few hats for. and the Blue one for a baby hat. 

I have not tried the green one yet ..maybe toddler hats?

Then I got fiddly and wanted to try something else so I got a Flexi Loom 

The cool thing with that one is you can remove the links and create a different style hat - but as slow as I am - they took longer and I still have one hat on that loom.  But its all good - I'll get there haha!!

Now! To make the ones with a brim - you stitch 20 rows and fold in half ( back up on the loom) them make 30 more rows

TO make the ones without the brim - you just stitch 40 rows total

and there you go - everything I know!!! ( kinda sad it all fits in one post haha)

Purple Rainbow Challenge for July

 Oh man - july went fast - and I just never got ahead of it!!

Now worries - I still plan to stitch some Purple in August - along with the Orange Angela called for

I did , however - pull what Purple yarn I had and knit up some hats for Operation Christmas Child. Two of them you have seen - but I wanted a true *purple* photo.... you know - for posterity!!

I have just a little bit of Purple yarn left - so will work it into another hat , with the little bit of Lime I have left over. We shall see how far they go... I may have to add a third color! BUT!! there are the 4 that I finished for July

And I even found some Orange ( ish) yarn in my yarn bin.... 

I also finished up this little quilt. I did not make the top - I really think that San ( GypsyQuilter) did , but I can't guarantee it. Now it is all finished and will head out to bring some comfort.

July's Rainbow Scrap Challenge is Purple

July is halfway over..... gulp.....

I still have June's to finish... and a few other things.... so!!

Instead of Starting A Purple Quilt... I went and found my Purple Yarn and added a few hats to the "Not shown on the Blog"  pile

I got two Purple Completely done and one is still on the loom ;-)

These will all go to my Friend M for her Operation Christmas Child projects - she aims to fill 700 boxes this year.

Pink Steppers... Pink Hats.... and Finished (or not!) Friday!!!

 Oh my Heavens... did this week not just FLY past!!!! It seemed to for me! I am not sure where it went - but at least I got a few things finished...... 

Pink was the Color of the Month for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.... so I dug in!

This is the Quilt I finished :

Got a tiny break in the wind and actually had sun ( as opposed to dust or smoke)  so I ran to the trailer!!!!

And because is was so florally - It needed some big and bold ( and kinda quick) Quilting on it!

I had a whole bolt of it, and I am surprised at how many places I have used it!

and then my Hat recap!!

I didn't get as many done as I wanted - but Vacation, and family things kept me kinda busy in the evening.  I do have one in progress - so you'll have to see that for May .

I didn't have any pink in my yarn pile - so I went in to Hobby Lobby. I found the Pink and Green there and it was awesome! it was called Crafters Secret Big Idea yarn and there was 810 yards per skein. 

I really liked how soft it is!

So there you have it... My Month in Pink!!

Under the wire... Steppin on Up!!! and Finished ( or not) Friday!!

 Did you know that yesterday was the last day of March?

Did you know that my Yellow RSC quilt was not finished....  

Did you hear the panic, the desperation, the whirring of the sewing machine????

That was me... sorry about that disturbance....

But Now!!! after all that Panic - I can now say!!

YELLOW is finished!!!

It is super bright and FULL of bees!! I hope that all the bees stay on the quilt, and don't swarm me... I am allergic - but!! they are just so cute!!!

When I was building it - it just seemed unfinished.  

Jan at https://thecolorfulfabriholic.blogspot.com/ said I should add a row at just the bottom.

And she was right ! Finished it just the way I wanted it to look!!

Then I quilted really fun circles - in my thoughts - maybe how a bee flies as it goes around the flower before landing? 

Oh!! and for the back!! I found a Black with Bees Print!! I am thinking I might have carried the theme a little too far - but! Its all a Buzz now!!!

And for the final Count of Hats for the Month of March - EIGHT!!

The Maize color I had really got 7 hats  and that top right one is all the leftovers of the maize, Green and blue. So there you go - I am up to 25 hats for M to use for her Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes.

And now I am ready to move on to Pink for April!! This is what I found... we will see what works!!
