Another Stepper - and !! Finished ( or not) Friday!!

And another one done, and another one done, and another one bites the dust.....

Can you tell what era music my husband has had on lately? and did you know that I can hear what he plays while I quilt???  Don't tell him - I am afraid he will start playing songs that tell me to buy him stuff.....

I think this may be my last Stepper quilt top made in 2022..... and all have been quilted.... and don't do a spit-take - but!!! All of them have been bound... I KNOW !!!!!

I had fun with these little stepper quilts this year - I think I made eleven of them?   And I am not sure I see a dent in my stash... wasn't that supposed to happen?   Maybe I will try again next year with the RSC challenge with another easy fast block.... I am on the lookout!!

An overload of Steppers

I am starting to think I have a problem... or maybe an addiction or maybe... I just can't stop myself from cutting up 3 1/2 inch strips... and turning them into Stepper quilts....

I give myself to the end of the year - then I may ask you to stage an intervention....

When I was cutting up my blues for the Blue Plaid Quilts ( One here ) and ( One here) I also found Reds - and because I wanted to empty the bag - I cut them too.....

And now:

I have three MORE in progress

One - Is a top already:

Two is Rowed already.... so you know that top is coming soon:

And three... its on the design wall - and needed some leftover blocks added to it....

It's an addiction... like chips... you can't have just one....

help.......

Blue Plaid Steppers and !! FInished ( or not) Friday!!!!

June's RSC color was Blue - and I ( of course) had blue plaids - so I started cutting them up... I might have cut a lot - but - on these quilts - they are truly scrappy ! I just grab a stack of leftovers , cut them to 3 1/2 x 6 1/2 and stitch until I run out....

This is the quilt I came up with!

You might wonder about my set up.... well..... I had a friend that needed head shots for their business profile - so I set up my light studio and backdrop to do them

And it was only 400 thousand degrees outside

And I thought Heck fire!!! Hang a quilt.... it should work.... and I think it did....

a close up of the quilting.

I am pretty happy to get this one finished. I have been commissioned for a lot of Memory quilts. And I really like doing those. I just forget that sometimes there are a lot of small pieces, and a LOT of cutting involved... But I am glad to be able to do them ;-)

Now it is your turn to show off your Finishes ( or not) this week.

But there are conditions:

Patriotic Steppers on the Design Wall

My amazing awesome QOV friends got together this Weekend for a Sew day and we DEMOLISHED the 3 1/2 inch Patriotic Strip bin!!!!

IT WAS AWESOME!!!

We had stitchers, and we had a cutter, and an ironer , and a design wall putter upper......

We went SUPER SCRAPPY - and this whole top was finished by the time we left!!!

and then we went PRETTY SCRAPPY - and this one is pinned and ready to be rowed

and then we tamed it down.... just a teeny little bit
and this was pinned and ready to be rowed

and then I forgot the photo of the stack of blocks - but we finished another 48 for another top and have 14 left in the pile....

So a Minimum of 4 tops.... maybe 5 ( if I get in action!)

What a day!!!

Forest Steppers finish and...... Finished ( or not) Friday

This week has just flown by!!! I am not sure what makes them go faster or slower but holee cow... I was shocked to see Friday on the calendar!!

We have been running sun up to sun down ( and maybe even later) these days. We ride at dawn, we haul hay/move cattle/ride other horses and mow till dark... its that time of year!

I did manage to Squeeze in my  May Steppers Quilt this week tho!!!

The color for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge was dark greens ( I think... its soooo long ago haha)

And so!

I will admit to running out of daylight to take its photo... so I turned on every light in the house to simulate the day ... I am sure I looked like a lighthouse on a hill!

Did you know that if you try hard enough - spotlights work too.... I thought you might want to see the back.
And!! it is bound and completely finished!

    Plaid Stepper Progress

I started this one when I didn't know what the color for our RSC was going to be in May

and because Lois gave me a bag of plaids that just had to be dug into.....

    and now!!!

    Its a finish!!

When it was up on the design wall I thought it was kind of Muddy in color... you know - it all blended in - but now that it is quilted and hanging in the sun... I disagree with myself!! I think there is a good variety of Plaids in there!!

This is an up close for Judy - she asked about my flamingo clips - they are towel clips for pool chairs. I don't always have a pool - but! now I have my flamingos ( I also have margarita glasses haha)

A quick shot of the back. I found this Grey shirting in my stash and I think it just worked SO very well!

And you know... one more gratuitous shot - just in case you couldn't see the quilting ;-)

A couple of you asked how many blocks I make for each quilt - and the answer is - I don't know.
I just started sewing these strips together until I got tired, then I laid them up on the design wall - and Ta da!

I actually had one extra - that will go into my block bin....
again - here is the block tutorial Block Tutorial

    Have a great one!!!

May RSC - Forest Steppers and my Monthly String Blocks

I'm coming in just under the wire on this one!!!!

The Rainbow Scrap Challenge color of the month was Green - I read that as Forest or Dark greens...

and with all the wonderful challenges that took me out of my studio this month - I was so excited to get this one into TOP stage!!!

( which means you WILL see it again... as a finish!!)

I didn't realized I had that much Forest in my stash... but I did!!!

And then!!! Another under the wire!!!  My plan of making one string block a day almost got away from me. And yes - I take the *string* part pretty liberally ;-)

Here you go!! 31 Blocks for May!!

They make for a bright, crazy, eye straining design wall!!!

    Plaid Steppers

I blame Angela for this one.....

( Not really , but I had to start somewhere!)

Usually she gives a hint, or a clue about what the new color will be. And I really didn't need to know right away - but Lois had send me this bag of plaids..... oh maybe I should blame Lois too!!!!

In my minds eye - I was going to grab the plaids that matched the RSC color for May and Bam!!! Start in....

But then - I pulled plaids out and I just started cutting - because. what is a girl to do when she is surrounded by plaids. I think the plaid dust went to my head.

I am not sure how big this one will be, but I cut enough strips for 15 quilts ( right???)

Here is where I am at the moment:

Its really prettier in person - but with a lot of these prints -Its kind of muddy in color. and guess what?

    I like it!!!

Pink Steppers... Pink Hats.... and Finished (or not!) Friday!!!

Oh my Heavens... did this week not just FLY past!!!! It seemed to for me! I am not sure where it went - but at least I got a few things finished......

Pink was the Color of the Month for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.... so I dug in!

This is the Quilt I finished :

Got a tiny break in the wind and actually had sun ( as opposed to dust or smoke)  so I ran to the trailer!!!!

Ta Da!!! My Finished Pink Stepper Quilt!! (tutorial Here)

And because is was so florally - It needed some big and bold ( and kinda quick) Quilting on it!

Oh! and  shot of the back!
    Hot Pink
I had a whole bolt of it, and I am surprised at how many places I have used it!

    and then my Hat recap!!

I didn't get as many done as I wanted - but Vacation, and family things kept me kinda busy in the evening.  I do have one in progress - so you'll have to see that for May .

I didn't have any pink in my yarn pile - so I went in to Hobby Lobby. I found the Pink and Green there and it was awesome! it was called Crafters Secret Big Idea yarn and there was 810 yards per skein.

I really liked how soft it is!

So there you have it... My Month in Pink!!

My Rainbow Scrap Challenge block how to

You may have noticed that for 2022 I chose a specific block and have been making whole quilts with that block.

The block is based on my pattern called Zig Zag Rails. I taught zig zag rails to a million 5th graders ( okay maybe 100 - but it felt like a million) as they were participating in making Quilts of Valor.  We also taught it to the College Softball Team - they ROCKED this Block!!

Then Liz showed this block... and I loved it!

This block actually goes together a little faster....Which makes it perfect for my Lack of Patience!!

    its a fairly versatile block
but these are mine so far.....

So the Block is 9 1/2 inches Unfinished... You know before it is put into the quilt.

I do it by using Strips - again - super impatient

But you can also do bricks - make it even scrappier!

Alright - cut your fabrics to 3 1/2 inch wide.

I am doing mine scrappy - so I am not caring how long the strips are - but they have to be at least 6 1/2 inches long.

Most of mine seem to be about 20 inches.

If you are not going to use strips -
    Cut your Bricks 3 1/2 x 6 1/2 inches

    Stitch them together.

Once my strips are sent together - I press the seams - I haven't really paid attention to which direction... sorry...

Then if you are using strips - cut your set to 6 1/2 inchs

    You should now have a unit that measures 6 1/2 x 9 1/2

    6 1/2 x 9 1/2

    then you will cut a 3 1/2 x 9 1/2 inch strip.

As you can see in my red ones - I used white,
In the Teal quilt - I actually used a darker Teal

and in the Yellow one - I used Black

In these pink ones - I am going to use a darker pink
Stitch that 3 1/2 x 9 1/2 onto the side of your brick set.

Again - since I am doing scrappy - I am not caring which side it is on, as I will be able to play with the arrangement when all the blocks are made.... and this will give me variety.
    TA DA!!!
    Your finished blocks

Just to prove I did the math right
( more for me than you!!)

    It is 9 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches square

I am pretty sure that none of the Quilts I have made so far have the same amount of blocks.
But - with a 9 1/2 block its pretty easy to do the math to figure out how many you want for the size quilt you want to make ;-)

Just because you all know me....
    Plaid!!

    There you go!! Have fun!!
