Playing in the Strings

In January I decided to try to make a string (type) Block a day... and hopefully use up some of my stash!!!

The pile has gotten rather large - so I decided that maybe it was time to make a top or two and see what I could do!

We all know that I have a plethora of Red, Whites and Blues... so Ta da!!

This is the first top I started on! If you remember.... I made one called Inspired by Cynthia ( Click here for the full story) and I just kept going with this style - so why  not try it again with the blocks I have finished!!!

This is fully Topped and on my table while I find a backing for it....

But I couldn't stop there - I had made strings with my leftover teals
and this was all I had - so you know I had to do something with them!!

Now this one is a top - and I found a really fun Hawaiian Print for the back....

Every time I think I am making a dent in my string bin... I trim a new quilt and BAM!!  Its full again... I see more stringing in the next week....

Happy Monday!!!

Sticks Infinity ... and Finished ( or not) Friday

Way back in 2015  Cynthia - at Quilting is More fun than Housework started a scrappy challenge and I jumped on it!  I created Sticks.... and I loved Sticks... and I made More Sticks.... and then....

Cynthia made this cool quilt that she called A festive Picnic Quilt.... and although she used stings - I saw Sticks!!! and so I copied ( ish) her!!! ( with her permission - I promise!!) - but I was nice and I named mine

Inspired by Cynthia

And then.....  I was organizing a pile that I had stacked someplace .. and there was a small top ish type thing - and I said - OH! I can make another sticks..... and so I did...

and here it is:

Ta da!!!

The blue was in my Stack... so I added some cream stick blocks.....

and then I bordered it with An eagle Print!!! I love Eagles!! and it just seemed to look so good!

Pink Sticks 2

I have a finish... I have a finish.... Say that in your most taunting voice ! The one that you used to make your siblings so jealous of you!!!   Yep --- that always makes me laugh!!

This was my Leader/Ender project for a long time!  I won't tell you how long, because, quite truly - I don't know. I just kept working on it, and working on it, until one day - it needed to become a top!!

Now it is even quilting - and - are you ready for this? To my faithful followers, you had better be sitting down.... IT!  Is!  BOUND!!!  Oh yes - it is!!!

Ta-da!!
This is me - trying the magazine drape again...
Ha ha!

A little close up of the quilting

In it's full glory
I would have taken it outside
except it seems we are starting a new tradition here in colorado
Every time Alycia wants to take photos outside - it must rain - a lot!
( or like today - even hail!)

And a little glimpse of its crazy retro back!!!

It is for sale in my Etsy Store

Design wall update

Remember all the Pink Strips I was working on?

It is finally a top!!

I have decided that it is time to move the furniture out of my house....it keeps getting in the way of me taking pictures of my design wall.... and with a cell phone - you need a straight on shot!

Think the others will agree??

The top measures 54 x 66 in

And this is still the pile of leftover strips..... anyone interested?   Seriously.... I'm ready for them to find a good home.... I bet there is a lot of a quilt left ( or maybe a whole one.....)

First to speak with a return email - i'll send them your way ;-)   They are taken - thanks!

Little bit says you need to see Fluffy cat. Fluffy Cat looks like a huge monster of a cat, and when you pick her up, she is tiny and all Fluff..... she says hi

And another UFO bites the dust

As a part of our RSC color challenge - I really dug into the blues, and I started a LOT of stuff I didn't finish.... So in cleaning up my sewing area - I found really long strips of blue that are now:

A quilt top!!! It measures 40 x 50 - and I think I am going to leave it that size and just quilt it up!!

Pink Plaid Sticks

Pink Plaid Sticks is a finish!! A complete and bound finish!

I decided that the backing should be fleece - and I had just the perfect piece of pink with white polka dots.  It was such fun - and I bound it in Hot pink with gold stars.

We headed outside to take a few photos and whoa! Could you see the skies turning black.

The skies set the colors off so well.
The one above is a little blurry - I got the giggles as wrangler man and sons were trying to
keep the quilt from flying

Here you go - a little better

and the back!   If you click on the photos and go really close up you can see the quilting. I used a panto from Dawnas Design Threads  called TEMPEST . It gave it wind like movement.  AND - do you want to know a secret???
I have a pantograph for sale at Dawna's Design Threads  - I do!!!

It's called Feathers a la mode. But a lot of truth in advertising here. The design was my concept - Dawna did a ton of work to make it a real design... she is quite talented !!  Go Check it out!

Lastly - this quilt is for sale in my Etsy store.Pink, Purple and Polar Fleece  Has been listed .

This project was one of my Qtr2 Finish a long projects

Sticks 3 - A finish!

I have a finish!! Yay me!!!  Somehow March has just flown on by me, and I am not getting caught up with it.... but I like wild rides.... so its all good!!

Sticks 3 is finally finished!!!

It is topped, quilted and.... sit down for this.... BOUND!!  Yep!! I might have even done it without complaint.... what is happening to me ;-)

I used a chevron fleece for the back, and it is yummy!!!

Now that I have my photo program fixed I can find all of my pictures. It was a little scary there for a moment - each time I opened the program I got an App Crash.... the first time was pure panic - the 2 through gazillionth time irritated me! But it's all good now....

I will be linking up to Confessions to celebrate the finish!

Pink Plaid Sticks on the Plains in the Snow

Sort of..... I guess the snow is on the Plains, but the Pink Plaid Sticks is warm in the house.

I have had so many awesome comments , and direct emails about this quilt top . So many of you wanted to know how I did it....

So.... here is how.. I sat down at my machine and I stitched, and I looked up and the dog was barking, so I headed outside to see why, and I found a horse in my front yard. I took the horse back to the large pasture he was supposed to live in and I came back in the house and I stitched some more , and then I .....

Wait?  That is NOT what you were talking about?

Tee hee - I decided that my thought process is better put into pictures - so I created a pattern ( ish) for you and I loaded it in my Craftsy pattern store .... For Free..... so you could print it out and see the way my poor brain works.

I don't think there are any pictures of the horse in my front yard though - I'll save those for another day:

The free pattern can be found here:

And here are some of the other patterns AlyciaQuilts Craftsy Store ( hope that works)

Pink Plaid Sticks

I wasn't sure if this should be called Pink Plaid ( aka Plaid #9)  or if it should be Sticks 3 - since I made it in the fashion of Sticks and Sticks 2   - Usually I name quilts and then I sort of forget what their names are anyways....  and I make up a new name..... sort of like I do with people. ( sigh)

without further ado..... here is Pink Plaid Sticks...

And remember all the fabrics I cut up?  Yep.... I still have a lot left, so they are next to my machine and I'll keep stitching on them - maybe make a whole nother 2 or 3 quilts.....

Oh - and I made scraps.... anyone interested? lol!!

Pink Scrappy Saturday

Pink is the Color of the Month for our RSC15 challenge hosted by http://superscrappy.blogspot.com/

And I wholeheartedly went in search of Pink Scraps.  Ummmmm I don't have pink scraps.... it's not that my boys don't like pink, it's just that , well..... they like other colors besides pink....

So what is a girl to do?

I searched my bins of plaid!!!!  And Ta-Da ... There was PINK in there....

And then the Superbowl was on, and so my Mom and I worked at the kitchen counter cutting, and watching the game of course, while the boys yelled....

Ta - Da....

It is either Sticks 3.... or Plaid #9..... Or maybe.... it will be called Plaid Sticks./..... let's just work on the finish part - there is A LOT of pink there!!

Have a Happy Weekend!!

Sticks 2 ...Continued

The last time you saw Sticks 2... I thought I was finished.... then we hung it up on the stairs, and it spoke to me!  It said - everyone in your family is tall, you don't know where I am going yet.... I AM NOT finished....

And So.... I went and dug into my ever expanding stash
( Which, by the way, I have not purchased or added to.... it just multiplies)
And found some fabrics I though could be borders......

And....

Voila!..!

Now Sticks 2 is finished!

Well... almost finished - now I need a back, and to quilt it, and to bind it....

so come to think of it - I am not as close to finished as I think.... oh well....

Tiny Blue Scraps

I have been diligently working on my RSC blocks - so I can give you a grand reveal.... and in the process I made a bunch of tiny scraps.... how does that happen?

So!  I decided to stitch them together and make hot pads- I even used Insul-brite!

And yes - the do not have the binding, hanger on them - give me a year...
I'll get to it ;-)

I also have decided that Sticks 2 is not finished.

Little Bit - who I look up to now -
held it up for me to photograph.
I decided then it was not finished
I made a plan

and then I have been running around our state like a chicken....
it's been crazy -

Check in with other Scrappy progress at

Sticks #2

So.... remember those strip sets I was making?

Well.... they are almost something now!

Here is the original inspiration:  http://alyciaquilts.blogspot.com/2014/05/sticks.html

Cynthia at http://quiltingismorefunthanhousework.blogspot.com/  hosted ( and still hosts) Scrap a Palooza.  While making my original Sticks quilt - I learned that just stitching all the strips together, and not worrying about the width, made it so fast and easy.

After I had my strip sets - it was easy to cut off the size I needed and trim up.

So -I cut all of my scraps to 11 inches in length:

Then I sewed them until I got tired,,,, and started another strip set.  ( usually about 15 minutes at a time)

Then I took my strip sets - and of course I ironed them

And cut off 10 1/2 inch pieces.   Since I had cut the strips 11 inches it gave me a little leeway - not all of the strips were exactly rectangular, and some were a little wedge like. So that extra 1/2 inch gave me lee-way....

I cut all the strips to 10 1/2 inch blocks.  If the strip didn't cut up even, I re stitched all the leftovers together and started again.

And Ta- Da!!  I ended up with 32 blocks!!!  - So 30 of them randomly went into the top - and the other two.... well I have a few ideas... we will see if they pan out.
And every other piece of fabric that is left from this quilt, and what was in the grocery sack... can now be yours:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/281561059362   I listed them on Ebay - and my blue bin is now ready for new scraps!! Yay me!!!
