Scrappy Saturday - Teal edition

I have been working in my scraps - and quite frankly - I am having a blast! I am probably starting so many projects I will lose track... but it;s all fun so far!

I have the Scrappy Block in Teal done for March!! Whoot Whoot!!

Marly  asked me how I made the block - so I thought I could do a quick how to....

Here is my original drawing - the post it part - that is my genius math skills at work - so I covered it up. I did not want you to be blown away with my skills ( grin)

I decided it needed 20  3 1/2 inch String Squares
                                5  4 inch String Squares
                                5   4 inch solid Squares
                                6   3 1/2 inch solid squares

So I pulled out my teal strips.  I had also figured that I needed about 70 inches in length of strips - sometimes I will sew that length together first - before I start adding width.  Crazy - I know - but it uses up lots of little pieces.

My strip Sets

And then I start cutting - I cut the 4 inch squares first.. that way I can pick and choose at the widest widths.

For the solids ( or in my case the polka dotish fabric) I have 5 - 4 inch squares. I draw a line diagonally and then pair it with a 4 inch string square.  I then sew 1/4 inch on each side of the line, cut down the line  and open it up for the half square triangles squares.

Oh - By the way - I cut one 4 inch by WOF strip, sub cut the 5 - 4 inch blocks,
Trim the rest of the strip to 3 1/2 and cut the 6 - 3 1/2 inch squares.

Then I lay it out and sew it together.

Ta da!! January, February and March - All Done!!!

In Progress

I really love having more light at the end of the day - but I do not like the dark at the beginning!!  I am sure that it will continue to grow lighter, but chores in the dark.... Not as much fun as I remember!

I have quite a few things in progress, but I feel like I am just running in circles!!

I finished a back.... and Nope - can't show you the top yet, because - I might have forgot exactly where I put it... Let's just wait till it is quilted - okay???

Working on some Churn Dash Blocks. This is my test out of my scraps - but this weekend we will be doing them in Red White and Blue for our QOV sew day.  I will probably finish this one though in the Purple and Yellow - This color Combo is really growing on me,

And of course - Graduation is coming up - so I am working on a few T Shirt quilts for graduates. This one is fun. The graduate himself came over to lay it out! I LOVED it - seriously. A Math guy with an eye for precision. The pressure is on!

On the Quilting machine - I have an antique quilt. These blocks were found in an estate sale. My Client set them into a great quilt - and... now I am quilting it. I am falling in love with these little 9 patches.

And finally.... a Finish!! I finished this little table runner.  I am really trying to finish my projects this time... of course , it may be short lived - but I am trying. It is in my Etsy Store ( over on the right)

That is all!!   Alright - Busted! not really - but that is all for this post!
Tomorrow is my Scrappy Saturday - and I am going to make the best of it!

Quilts of Valor 2014

Oh my Goodness!!! If you do not add to your Bucket list after seeing all these quilts.... let me know... I will be surprised!!

First - housekeeping ( okay Not the dusting and vacuuming stuff!)  A few have asked what the requirements for a Quilt of Valor are... and I so happen to have a page with all that info ... so ... here you go:

http://alyciaquilts.blogspot.com/p/qov-2014-no-soldier-forgotten.html

And now... on the the quilts.... if only housekeeping in real life was that easy....

These first four quilts ( the one above, and the three below) are all pieced by Sue. Sue was gifted some blocks from a friend that wanted them all put into QOV's, and then Sue adds her own. She is such a talented piecer and Quilter!!! They were then bound by her sister Mary - team work!!

The next two were pieced and Quilted by Liz Taylor Davis - that gal is a wonderwoman!!

That light blue fabric just brings out both quilts - I Love it...and be sure to check out her quilting!

This quilt ( below) was made from the Moda Just One Star blocks. Kathy and Connie Pieced it.
And then a FABULOUS Teenager - Kelly - quilted it.  She did an awesome job!

And look!!! Some of our Block Drive Tops are getting finished!! This one was Quilted by Merrie Jones in Colorado - another wonderful Long arm Quilter.

And this one was Quilted by Kathy Fellbaum in Colorado - I think she had fun. AND!! She wasn't dizzy when she was done - bonus.  Thanks Kathy!!

Crystal Stewart quilted this one - she did a great job. This quilt was pieced by Susan S in NY - Thanks Crystal!!

And Ms Pat M. made and quilted this one. She probably doesn't know how much I love plaids... I just love this quilt!!!

I know that if you click on the pictures you can see them a little more close up. Thanks all you quilters who constantly help out - you guys are just awesome!!  I hope you can see some of your blocks in the block drive quilts!

LOVE the smiles as they are wrapped in their Quilts of Valor!!

Quilts of Valor 2014

I am SO torn!!! I have wonderfully awesome gorgeous quilts to show.....

AND!!! I have wonderful soldier pictures to show.... what to do - what to do?????

How about a little of BOTH??

John - a FABULOUS machine quilter is in one of my groups, and his quilting group decided to contribute to Quilts of Valor. John is a featured quilter at the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum too - he rocks!!

So here are three quilts that he Machine Quilted
The first is made by Joyce ( we love her too!)

I took a couple of close up - and the backing - because this quilting is just so much fun!

This one was made by Sue and quilted by John. He quilted it just a little different - but Wow!!

And the last one that John quilted , was made by Patsy.  All the patterns are the same - but wow!! The use of color really makes them individual right??

Okay - Now a few soldiers.  These soldier are so appreciative of the quilts that we bring. They live in the Warrior Transition Battalion. This is the battalion that helps them with their injuries, getting rehab, and figuring out what the next step is - whether rejoining their battalion, or transitioning out.  Tough decisions, and lots of medical treatment.

Some are their for a short time, and some have just arrived - both cases - they might not have their belongings with them quite yet.  (Jessie C - this is one of yours....)

It is always fun to explain that the quilting patterns are - the apple core - for example. That one got a lot of giggles as I made up a story about Johhny Appleseed being a quilter....

Yah - they didn't buy it either... oh well...  I guess I shall go look up the history of that one.... Sue? Is this quilt yours?
Hope you enjoyed today's show....off to quilt!

Just do it Update

I keep thinking that I am making progress - and then I go back and look at my other pictures - and I wonder....

Is it progress - or is it brilliant re-arranging???

Either way - at least stuff is moving, quilts are getting done, and I am really enjoying my projects!

Here is December ^
I am really glad I dated it!!
Or maybe not - I could have lied if it wasn't!! ;-)

This is January 13th ^
I didn't label it well - but there was an empty cubbie
I remember the excitement

And this was last night
March 3rd....
Does it look fuller to you?

I know I rearranged again - I was looking for the pink florally print that I knew was in there.

I just couldn't remember where!!

I do still have one EMPTY spot - so maybe there is progress?

I am going to say that I am glad to keep going through the fabrics.
It is giving me some inspiration, ideas, and happiness...
and that's what its all about right?
