2014 RSC Scrappy Saturday
In January I decided to try a *new thing* ! I follow Angela over at http://superscrappy.blogspot.com/ . She had been doing this Scrappy Saturday thingy and I followed with interest. I didn't know if that was something I could keep up with.
You might have figured out by now.... I have QDD, a short attention span, and am a perfect procrastinator..... But I thought - well - if I join in, and don't like it - I will just stop ( great attitude right? LOL)
I had fun!!! I enjoyed organizing my scraps a little at a time, and feeling compelled to use them.... rather that just look at them!
Here is what I ended up with:
Nine Scrappy hearts! What a lot of fun I had, and it was nice to have a group of people working on scraps together.... Angela is hosting RSC2015 as well - so go check it out and maybe join in?
PS - Every time I post a heart block I get lots of questions about the pattern - so... here you go:

Brown Scrappy
I am getting this block done just under the wire!!! Brown is the October Color for RSC Scrappy Challenge... yay me....
Brown was a little tougher - I didn't have many brown scraps - this is one of the only quilts I have made that had a lot of brown in it.... or at least that I can remember.
Here is my tutorial:

Scrappy Scrappy Scrappy
That is the theme around here this week - and thank goodness my husband and kids don't care what my sewing table looks like! They are even careful when opening and closing the doors this week ( wind damage to my designs results in NO dessert!)
I got my Orange RSC blocks finally done - this one was September's color
I was asked early on how I did these - so I wrote a quick little tutorial on how I did them.....
http://alyciaquilts.blogspot.com/2014/03/scrappy-saturday-teal-edition.html I should mention - there is chocolate consumed, and that is what keeps me at my sew table... yep - confessions ;-)
Here are a few other Orange Quilts I have made.
This one is from the Monochromatic challenge from Patchworktimes - a few weeks ( alright years) ago. Still not quilted.... Hmmmm Maybe that should be a goal for 2015??

But with the scraps from that quilt came this little quilt:
And it IS quilted ... please notice.... it is BOUND!
Oh ya - extra credit!!
And now after my heart block - I think I might have enough scraps....
for a whole nother 6 or 7 blocks!! *accckk* how does that happen?
I have NOT added any orange to the bag!!!

Design Wall Monday - Scrappy Edition
Sunday found us ... At Home!!.... Sort of... Wrangler Man had ranchy stuff to do, and he agreed that he could do it without me!! SO!! I started in on the laundry, the dinner in the crockpot, the boys' to-do list....and I settled in to sew...
I SO needed that! I left the computer off ( almost) and had so much fun. But then I had a problem! I needed my Design Wall - for the new project that I started.
When I looked at my design wall... there was already something on it! Do you ever have that problem?
In between working on the four ( yes quilters, I had BIG plans) projects that needed some attention - I decided to work on the design wall as well....
So - here is where the design wall ended up at 9pm. yep - I stayed up late - a whopping 9pm... in my defense - I had to be up early even though I didn't have to go do the ranchy stuff . My dog... she is an early riser - and she needs me ;-)
I also thought it was about time to get some of my photos ready for the scrap book. I have a new goal this year, to actually get a 2014 Album done. I am caught up to May... Not bad for a beginner lol
And here is my baby at his pig show. He did such a great job!
Enjoy!!

Scrappy Saturday
Oh my gosh... I am so in awe of all of these quilters that are keeping up with the RSC scrap challenges.... January was so easy for me... but guess what? It is NOT January anymore!!!
I finally Got June's Block Done!! YELLOW!!!
And I figured while I was at it I had better get cracking on July's too... so Ta da!!!
Here is my "All of Them" shot... slowly growing!! I even have a few crumb blocks of each color!
So this is my life in pictures... I started out good --- on a full out jump! ( PS this is NOT a photo of me!!)
Then it got a little scary and things started piling up...
Then I just plumb lost control of all my quilty projects.
And I de-railed....
On a brighter note - Fair will be over in a few days, Boys schedules start to get more like a schedule, and hopefully I will get back up on that horse and ride away.... into the Quilty sunset.....( and have some ME time lol)

Oh Look!! another Nature photo:

Finally Purple Scraps!!
Finally!!
I got a chance to make some Purple Scraps... and SEW them!
April is just filled with so much to do - I keep wishing the days were longer.
Ta - Da !
My Purple Scrap Heart Block
None of my scraps were all that small - so I just made squares instead...
And then of course - I had scraps...
That kind of worked backwards - but - well - I am pretty good at backwards!
Your wildlife photo for the day - this sweet little doe, who followed me everywhere. Little freaky!

Purple
This months Scrappy Saturday's Color is Purple....
I have searched all of my scrap bags and I can not find any scraps of purple. I have yardage... so NO Worries there.... but I was trying to use my bits and scraps up first...
And then I remembered why - I put all of my purple scraps into this quilt:
It is the Pineapple Blossom pattern at Quiltville.com
Not to worry -
I am making new purple scraps with this one:
Maybe next month will be yellow and I will be a step ahead?
Your complimentary Nature photo for the day: ( surprise - a Tree!)

Scrappy Saturday - Teal edition
I have been working in my scraps - and quite frankly - I am having a blast! I am probably starting so many projects I will lose track... but it;s all fun so far!
I have the Scrappy Block in Teal done for March!! Whoot Whoot!!
Marly asked me how I made the block - so I thought I could do a quick how to....
Here is my original drawing - the post it part - that is my genius math skills at work - so I covered it up. I did not want you to be blown away with my skills ( grin)
I decided it needed 20 3 1/2 inch String Squares
5 4 inch String Squares
5 4 inch solid Squares
6 3 1/2 inch solid squares
So I pulled out my teal strips. I had also figured that I needed about 70 inches in length of strips - sometimes I will sew that length together first - before I start adding width. Crazy - I know - but it uses up lots of little pieces.
My strip Sets
And then I start cutting - I cut the 4 inch squares first.. that way I can pick and choose at the widest widths.
For the solids ( or in my case the polka dotish fabric) I have 5 - 4 inch squares. I draw a line diagonally and then pair it with a 4 inch string square. I then sew 1/4 inch on each side of the line, cut down the line and open it up for the half square triangles squares.
Oh - By the way - I cut one 4 inch by WOF strip, sub cut the 5 - 4 inch blocks,
Trim the rest of the strip to 3 1/2 and cut the 6 - 3 1/2 inch squares.
Then I lay it out and sew it together.
Ta da!! January, February and March - All Done!!!

Pink Scrappy Saturday
My Saturdays aren't quite working out the way I wanted them to, but I wouldn't trade them for the world. Last Saturday found me driving all over the state - Quilt of Valor presentations AND!!! BONUS - got to see my oldest son!!
This Saturday finds me away from the machine as well....
So although my pink progress is slow - I will survive!!
I did want to get at least my heart block done - so I can add it with my blues.... I will call that success this month!!!

Blue Scrappy Saturday #5
Well - technically for me it is #4 blue - but it is the 5th Saturday. I missed posting last week, as Kevin H was here and we were busy prepping for my Quilt of Valor Sew day. I think he is hired!
Here is my final Scrappy Blue Saturday choice. I knew I wanted to do one block that would coordinate into a whole quilt at the end of the Rainbow Scrap challenge, but I am so block challenged myself. I want to make THEM ALL!! Without further ado:

My RSC block!
I used a small Black on White print for the solids - I hope I like it ;-)
Then... I was inspired -
My string box was just overflowing.
I bribed Little Bit and he sorted them by color
Now...
Ta da!!!
I have them all organized and sorted into Ziploc bags..
However!
None of them were pink.... for February's color.
I must go dig... I KNOW I have pink scraps
