Quilts for a Tuesday!

It is a cold and windy, yet sunny day. Good thing I work with quilts! I can not imagine being an ice cream maker on a day like today. My hands are already freezing! Even my dog is in hiding.
~
This first quilt comes from Colleen N in NE. I really like the color placement on this quilt. I think that was quite ingenious!
~

The next quilt was made by the Miracles group in Denver, and quilted by Abigail E in Illinois. Thanks Abigail for volunteering to quilt it.

~
These Two quilts came from Kim in La Junta, CO. PJ, Betty and Kim are a great quilting team. And they teamed up to make these!
Thanks ladies!!

~
This next quilt - in the greens - was made by Karen in OH. Her blog is http://passionatequilter.blogspot.com . Check it out - she is quite the seamstress!!

The last quilt was made by my Friend Denise, and quilted by Donna. It looks really cool, She quilted a special motif in the borders.
~
Hope you all just love these quilts like we do!
~
I think I might have mentioned that my baby had a birthday yesterday... here he is with his Birthday cake. It was very good. They ( the other boys too) demolished the cake, and the ice cream.

Have a great day!

Alberta in IL

Alberta sent in the 4 awesome quilts!! It was such fun to check them out ! Alberta you did a wonderful job. I sure appreciate you sending these in.
~
I love studying the quilts and pretend that I could make them as well ;-)
~
Our snow has melted out, and the wind is now blowing very very hard. They say it is bringing another storm. We are prepared ( sort of). I bought Chocolate!
~
Today is my Littlest Guys birthday. He is 8 years old, and very indignant that he should have to go to school on his birthday. He tried all sorts of tricks to stay home... didn't work. But I did make him a cake as soon as I dropped them off. Its a gluten free one - so keep your fingers crossed that it is just as yummy!

From Kim B in MN

There is a teacher ..Kim Brunner ... who teaches Twirly Whirly Feathers and more. She now has 2 DVD's and they are SO good. In the first DVD..."Machine Quilting for Beginners". The quilt that she used in her dvd... It's at my house!! It's Cool and I love it, and of course - its not for me. But a soldier is going to LOOOOOVE it!
~
Then she started her next DVD ..."Twirly Whirly Feathers". In it - she quilted on this Stack and Whack quilt... again... It's at my house. I feel like such a lucky duck!
~
I, of course, ordered the DVD's as they came out. But how cool is that to be watching the DVD and go .... oh oh oh I have that quilt - in my presence at this Very Moment.....
~
So you want her DVD's? Go to http://www.kimmyquilt.com You will learn a lot!!
~

This next quilt - the pinwheel one was made and quilted by her too. And the last quilt was made by Mary in CO and Kim quilted it for us. The pattern is a buggy Barn Slice and Dice quilt. Thanks Kim for all your help!

God's Creation QOV

This Quilt of Valor was made by one of the groups at school. They named it "God's Creation" and chose the Bear in the Woods MeanderPanto for it. I think they did a marvelous job and am really proud of them! They chose there own words for their label and we will put them and the picture on a label.
~
We even have a Outdoorsy Pillowcase for it.

~
I have had a few emails about what the requirements are for a Quilt of Valor. The Basic requirements are that the quilt be between 50 x 60 and 72 X 90. That it is a quilt - made of cotton fabrics. It should be quilted, not tied. They should have a label, and a pillowcase.

~
Now if you think the label is not important - I beg you to ask one of the 5th grade students what they think. They examined each and every quilt to find out information about it. Those that did not have labels, I answered questions about!
~
Pillowcases: you may think this is just one extra thing to do, and well frankly it is. But it is with good reason that we send a pillowcase with the quilt. One, it protects the quilt. Two, many soldiers go from location to location, and with a pillowcase the quilt can easily be a carry on. Three, they are cool, and can hold the quilt, the journal, and any other letters you choose to send with the quilt to the soldier.
~
I also recieved an email asking who our quilts went to. Ours are going to wounded soldiers in the Wounded Warrior unit at Fort Carson. There are many injured soldiers, in lots of other locations, they need the love too ( hint hint)
~
And the last questions I have recieved.. are you on spring break? Nope - we are on Blizzard break. Yesterday about 7am it started snowing, and by 9:30 am the roads were so bad they called for school to end. So I made it in at 10 and picked up my munchkins... and we played. Today school is cancelled too due to bad road conditions.
~
The picture of the man - he is standing in the middle of my road - my road to get to town and to chocolate. He is up to his knees in the snow..... I think I may be out of luck on the chocolate part.
~
The other picture is looking down the road towards the highway. The road - it is missing. Oh well, I didn't want to go anywhere anyways - so there!
~
Have a good one!

Gifts for the 25th

Okay - Just so you know - I wanted some moisture. Our pastures needed some moisture. They ( always - I wonder - who is "they") predicted 4-10 inches of snow in 24 hours - we got 12 inches in less than 2 hours and it is still snowing.

~

And you know that when it snows you Need stuff right? My poor horse came in late last nite with an eye wound, so I called the Vet this morning. Thank goodness he was in the neighborhood ( 7 miles away) treating a pig... and he came right out. By the time we finished with the horse - I had snow in my boots, in my sweatshirt, down my.. well everywhere!!! I got into the house and the boys laughed at me, I was dripping everywhere!!

~

The horse is going to be okay, I am now dry, the snow is still blowing - all we need is Wrangler Man to be home and life will be good!
~
Yesterday was the gift for the 25th day. And although this is not a gift for someone else - it is a gift for my couch. And it has to be quilted by Christmas - I hope I can do it. My Couch is counting on it! The top is now done. It is the Carolina Crossroads Mystery from Bonnie Hunter at Quiltville.com . I think the pattern is now in her Scraps and Shirttails book. Only took me a year and a half... I am that quick!!
~
Alright - off to show the boys up on Wii bowling, wish me luck!

I Love Kids!!

It was a letter writing campaign! The sunday School kids graciously allowed me to come in and tell them about our No Soldier Forgotten project. It was cool - they ask some great questions. I wish I thought like that!!

~

I took in some quilts, and a pillowcase, and some pictures of making quilts and soldiers getting their quilts.

~

Then the kids all got busy and wrote letters and cards for the soldiers. I loved it!!!

-

The kid in the orange shirt at the top - he's mine. He and his little brother were my quilt holders.... Its tough to be them ( grin) . The guy with his head down in the bottom right pic ( blue striped shirt) thats my youngest.

~
I think I collected over 100 cards - perfect - I will get them put into some quilt cases and the soldiers will LOVE them!
~
Have a great day!

From Texas

Robin in Texas volunteered to quilt 2 tops for me, and when she sent them back some other quilts must have jumped in that box, cuz when I opened it all these quilts JUMPED out!!
~
The first two quilts are the ones I had her quilt. The Turning Twenty is from Willa, and the Not So Top Secret Project is from Rubydell. Rubydell is a former military gal herself!
~
The next quilts - three of them were made and quilted by Robin. And 4 of them she and her quilting friends made. They call themselves the quilting sisters as they are a group of 3 sets of quilters. How cool is that? If I had a sister I would force her to quilt with me too..... I mean I have already converted my mom...
~
Ladies - Thank you for taking the time to make these Quilts of Valor for our No Soldier Forgotten Project. And thank you binding the tops I sent. I sure appreciate it!

This afternoon my oldest son and I ran into town, we dropped off some batting and went to Joanns. I got more Label Paper and a Magazine. Pretty good - and then Old Navy was next door, so we headed in there. I think I like that store - except all the pants were regulars. I need tall - I have a 36 in inseam... tought to find. But the store was bright and airy and made me think of spring!!
~
Now there are T-Bones on the grill - yum!!

Amy in MI

Made and quilted these 4 quilts for the wounded soldiers. The first is one of the Not So Top Secret Project quilts. I love the color combo!!
~
Next is a BQ9 I believe. I really like this one too!!
~
I don't know the pattern of the last two - but the color combinations are fabulous!!
~

Thanks Amy for doing this!

Hope you all have a great Saturday. It is National Quilting Day ya know! And it is sunny outside, and Wrangler Man made breakfast ( and cleaned up after it), this has the makings of a GREAT day!!! Does anyone have specific plans for National Quilting Day?

Its Finally Friday

I think that might be a song? This week has just gone by way to fast, and we had way to much to do.. extracurricularly (I have no clue how to spell that and my kids are at school - so I can't ask). We have a few more things to do this week still... and there is the final perfomance of the play tonite!
~
This first quilt was sent in from Mary K in NJ. I really like how it turned out. She sent some tops too - but you will have to see those when they are quilted. Sandi did the binding on this quilt. Thanks Ladies!!
~
These next two quilt were made by Willa of the Livermore quilters. She really got into making tops - which is really cool. When she came to our first sew day she was rather concerned. She had never finished a quilt top before, and was worried she wound't know how to. Its fun watching her tops as they start to get more interesting as she figures this topping thing out.
`
These two were quilted by Christine N in Michigan. Thank Christine for you time and wonderful quilting!!
~

The last two for this morning were quilted by Sue D in Illinois. The first one was made by Beth L in MD - Beth Pipe up with your blog addy. *** Here it is: http://mdquilter73.blogspot.com ***I know it is in my computer.... its hiding this morning.
Sue did an wonderful job on these quilts!
~
The Patriotic one was made by Willa too - see I told you she got on a roll! Thanks Sue for quilting them.
~
Have a great one!

From Iowa

April in Iowa volunteered to quilt some quilt tops for our No Soldier Forgotten Project. Along the way her sewing group - the Sassy Stitchers decided to help out too!

~
So the quilts on the right side - the Yellow Brick Road ones were made by the Miracles group in Denver. The one with the geese ( well thats what I am calling them) came from Jackie M in NJ. I think it was a mystery quilt over at Persimmon Quilts.
~
The quilts on the left side are from Aprils Sassy Stitchers group.
~
And check the count in the side bar... you might be amazed - I know I am!!! And there are more quilts to post...
~
Thanks Sassy Stitchers, Miracles, Jackie and April!!!
