Birthdays, golfing and wine

 My husband always likes to thank everyone for the gorgeous Firework displays to usher in his birthday on the 5th of July ;-)

And we always like to spoil him - he very rarely gets a day all about him... so we try!!! ( of course, I still make him do chores ha ha)

We started his day riding horses, and then... headed off to the Golf Course!!

He Skunked us... but we had a blast. Well actually I won - but that's because I cheat and play best ball... I kind of pretend I am a pro that way.  Really K won ;-)

I had been doing some searching online and I accidentally came across a Winery in Eastern Colorado - so you KNOW we had to try it out. After our golf game we headed over here!

They had this great mural in front - and a QUILT block on their barn!! ( and I forgot a pic of it - bad quilter!!)

it was their anniversary party - so you pre -bought  tickets and included in the ticket was a bottle of wine, this is the one we chose to have while we had our dinner. It had a coconut taste to it - it was AWESOME!!  Kind of what you think Summer should taste like

Its a family run business. The husband is the Vintner, the wife the business manager, the Daughter the Tasting room manager and Son in law is the chef.  This is what he made for dinner - Pulled Pork and Street corn and oh my - it was awesome

Even helped me make mine Gluten free!!!

it is a beautiful little place, you sit outside ( or in) and you are among the alfalfa, the grapes and the corn - Totally loved it... came home and sat on our deck.....

Not a bad day - and I think K thought it really was all about him ;-)

One thing at a time....

I have been inspired by Joyful and her 100 things decluttering.... but I twisted it my own way ;-)

Joyful has been making an effort to declutter one thing at a time - and it hit me... I should be doing that with my Parents stuff - I get so overwhelmed with what is left, and what to do with it - that if I touch just one thing at a time, maybe it would seem easier - 

So I have - and 2 whole boxes are ready to donate ( again) and the pants... my Dad had gorgeous suit pants and apparently I just boxed some up when trying to move everything out of his house.... those are going to our church...

and look what I found:

Me!!! Back in the day!! I raised Guide Dogs for the Blind out of San Rafael California thru my 4H - and I had to do a demo.... Wasn't I so cute haha!!!! 

And then I thought - hey - what is one thing a day that would make me happy? And I realized that I need another Churn Dash Project.... so I started making 1 churn dash a day ( just for April) 

Since I already have a bucket of 5 inch squares... I was ready to hit the sewing table!!

and then - only because I really don't want UFOs - I decided to pull out my Bonnie Hunter Mystery and get those pieces trimmed - and start on the blocks.... this is Block 1? 

They DO NOT go together as fast as my Churn Dashes - but I am liking them now. 

And my Baby girl - this is why we LOVE her!!!

Back to One Thing at a Time... Anyone need cleaning supplies haha! I opened one of the boxes and its all the cleaning supplies... I think my Dad loved to buy them - I won't have to for about 5 years.... Oh boy....

Life....

 Just a little off Quilty topics.... 

Life.... This week has seen me packing up my parents house... I have sorted and donated and given and sold and oh boy... taking apart someone's else's life is not for the faint of heart...

I have finally come to the conclusion that I can make NO more decisions haha!! So I ordered a Pod and we are packing what is left in there so I can get the house all cleaned and ready to go.

Then I will give my brain a break and get back to sorting...

August is our Birthday month  - first my  Mom, then me, then my Dads.  I came home from the hospital on my Dad's birthday Hope he liked his present haha!!

This is them.... Its been fun finding photos I know I have seen, but don't really remember.

They had files of them.

My Dad was one of the Rescue and Recovery workers on 9/11 and my  Mom had an extensive file of documents, newspapers etc. on it - kinda cool to read again....

I will tell you - when you have to do brain stuff like this - quilting is turning into a real therapy!!!! 

I kind of wish that others that have gone thru this would write a book or a article on how to make decisions about the tons of items haha!! that is just the worst... my house is just not that large.

But!! on the other hand - I want to save all of their photos - so its making me clean out junk at my house too.....

A Quilted Memory and !!! Finished ( or not) Friday!!!!

I actually have a finish this week, but I am pre-empting it with this Quilt Memory!!

To me this is a very Happy Memory and I am excited that the Memory is passing on to the next generation - but you know it has to start with... My Mom passed away.... Cuz you know - that's how a lot of memories get passed down.  So put your happy face on!!

My mother ( Sue) had Breast Cancer many years ago. One day we were out shopping and we found this Heaven Can Wait Breast Cancer Fabric line... we are talking 2006 long ago. Well - Mom was a 5 year Survivor by then and she was doing everything she could to make sure it didn't come back.

The name of the Fabric Line *Heaven Can Wait* Tickled her fancy. While she knew she was going to Heaven - she had 5 grandkids and wasn't quite ready yet - she needed to spoil them and fill them with orneriness and let them pick on their parents ( like me!)

 

I used the Turning Twenty Again Quilt pattern and I quilted it with an all over design - and gave it to her for Christmas. 

Everytime I made a quilt for someone in the family - my Mom got so excited, and then she would say - well I want one too. So!! Now I have my own quilts, and the ones I made for her! 

I decided to spread the love on this one and asked my Niece if she thought she might like it - and she very quickly piped up and said I DO!!!!

Check out that Pieced Backing... I love making pieced backings - but in the interest of time on my QOV's  - I find myself using a lot of wide backs for them... Glad I take the time on our personal ones - kind of fun to see the backs too.

So this Quilt is heading off to my Niece - she will love it and hopefully have some good memories of Grandma Sue too!   ( Ps my niece is an adult - so she is very sentimental about family things ❤💕❤

 Sticking with my Military theme this week...

A dear friend of ours passed away - so we headed up to Wyoming and South Dakota to attend his funeral.

Jon Served in the Army. He graduated as a Distinguished Honor Grad at Ft Eustis, VA - and he served as an AH1 Attack Helicopter mechanic. He served over seas during Desert Storm

My Husband  Knew Jon since they were itty bitty - like 5 years old. I had the privilege of meeting him when I met my husband.  He was the Ultimate joker - and I loved trying to keep up with him.

I got to have a different relationship with him than those who knew him forever, we had the Military in common - not that I served... but that I helped comfort or Veterans with Quilts of Valor - he was intrigued. And we spent ALOT of time talking about his service, and what he saw, lost, and hurt from.

The Quilt above was the Quilt of Valor that we presented to him. He said I made his eyes leak....

Jon's Funeral was in Sundance Wyoming - so we took the scenic route to get to my Inlaws and crash with them for the night....

Oh ya - You know I took my camera - and made the Man Drive!!! ( he is pretty good at pulling over at an *Oh look* exclamation!!)

I Love Rainbows - Proof of God's Promise to the Earth... and also - pretty comforting knowing what we were headed to.

The Funeral was held in Sundance, WY - and then we all got in our cars and took an hour drive to Sturgis SD, to the Black Hills National Cemetery. Being Military Jon was honored to be Buried there.

And I know - in my heart - that that provided comfort to the family.

One of the things Jon was SO proud of was his Children - and his grandkids!!! His Son followed in his footsteps and serves in the Army. 

it was a sad but beautiful day. I believe he was Honored . and I was so happy that I had been able to present him a Quilt of Valor ( 2015) So he got a lot of use out of it!

I think the photo below was the perfect last photo of the day..... we had a good laugh!!

This quote has stuck with me these last few years - Losing my Parents, my dog, and now my friend..

They say you die twice.  One time when you stop breathing and a second time, a bit later on, when somebody says your name for the last time.

I hope his family and friends will continue to share their memories of Jon and keep his legacy alive.

The Procrastiquilt #1 is Done!!!! and Finished!! (or not) Friday!!

Oh what a week!! We have a lot of Finishes around here!!... and only one of them is a Personal Quilt!!! But!! Its exciting none the less!

Lets go with the Quilt first!!!

I got my Procrastiquilt QOV finished!! Well - the first one!!

Don't you just love it? I really do - even tho nothing is really *even*  haha!!!

Wonky stars and uneven rails... that's my Jam!!!

I quilted it with Swirly Stars......

Just so you know... I  might have used this as an excuse to not work in the barn.. The boys were re-roofing and I was supposed to be sorting all the *stuff* in there... I got thru a lot.. but I was starting to annoy my husband with the amount of *stuff* I was putting in the dumpster.... oops!

and now on to the other big finish!!! My Baby!!! He graduated!!!...  we all ( minus that oldest kid of mine) got to head up to watch him!! We were so excited - and it was so fun!! 

I had sort of expected 70 deg and sun... but that is not what we were greeted with... Good thing I always travel with an extra jacket!!

Just cuz My Blog is all about me.... Me with my Baby!!! I love it!!

Long May She Wave Finish!!! and !! Finished ( or not) Friday!!

Oh my Gosh! it has been a crazy week and a half for me and my family - but I think... we now have all the laundry done, groceries have been purchased, and maybe... we are back to our routine life haha!!

Let's start with the Finish!!!!

My LONG MAY SHE WAVE Mystery came to a close Wednesday... and now... its time to show off my Quilt!!! I tried to keep it under wraps for the past 8 weeks/.. but I need to brag now!!!

Ta- Da!!!!  All those flying geese turned into something PATRIOTIC!!!

Just in time for Veterans Day!! and more Quilt of Valor Awards!!!

We had to get dressed up. ....

All for a good cause tho!!!

We finally got to celebrate my son and .... his wife! ( how did my baby get old enough to have one of those????)

And now we wait for the Professional photos - but... I just couldn't wait to share haha!!!

And lastly - a few of you said the Quilt hangers were out of stock - I had to order more yesterday - and they were back.....that means I am up to hanging 24 quilts!!!! I had no idea I had that many to hang!!! Most of mine get given away or sold... or so I thought!!!!

Our last Vacation day

The hotel that we stayed at was called the Hotel La Rose - and it is a Historic Hotel that was built in 1907. 

The walls are like 18 inches thick so it is SO quiet - which I think would be important when the trains came in.

But!! We started wandering around, we knew we were in the area that Charles Shultz lived (and has a museum) but what we didn't know was..... that there were Peanuts Statues in the area!

Of course, that made us go on a squirrel trail - we wanted to find a lot of them!!

I know we didn't find them all - but! We had fun!

We had breakfast at the Omelette Express. And right outside our window was  Woodstock!!!!!! 

Just to prove we were there with him haha!

Then one night we were still hungry so we went for Nachos and margaritas

and look who we found!!

I think Woodstock likes to be near restaurants!

I always wanted a Snoopy Dog House!

Puppy lives in my house tho - so does that make my whole house a dog house?

I found the perfect Doctor

I asked him where his $.05 kisses sign was!! 

Aren't those fun?   its a fun way to see the city too!   and then.... we had to go back to real life....

Did I ever mention how much I like Vacations? Even short ones?
