These 6 quilts come from California - they were all quilted by Ron O in New Mexico. I think that Meredith and Linda keep him very very very very busy!

These quilts are going to the Wounded Warriors Unit at Fort Carson.

These next three quilts on the left were made by Meredith. I should have taken pictures of the backings too - they are just great. I really truly wonder where she finds all this fabric!

WWII Quilts of Valor

These two wonderful quilts came from Eileen in MD for the WWII Honor Flight Veterans, Eileen - they are perfect!!

I think this first one is a trip around the world style quilt. It is quite stunning and looks like it takes careful planning,

The next one - I think - is a Warm Wishes quilt. This pattern should be able to be found online for free at mccalls quilting?

I am now at home sitting in front of the fire, totally believing the weather people. This morning is was nice, by noon - 70 degrees. We had a picnic... a real outside picnic. By the time we made it to the gun range for target practice at 6pm we were in winter coats and gloves!! They say we will wake up to snow.... hmmm... I was really ready for spring!

Quilters Accountability 10

This is a very short post- as it is Spring Break for my kids and we are goofing off.... very badly. Today was 65 degrees and we all got sunburned being outside all day. It was WONDERFUL!!

Quilting Quilts of Valor : I got 2 done. So total for this month so far: 5

The baby quilt: .... Whoo hoo - all the strips are sewn, now I just need to cut the blocks out of the strips. The baby doesn't arrive until the end of the month, so I think I should be okay.
`
Food: We are out ( giggle) I forgot about shopping because we have been playing. My parents stopped by today and brought a fruit and veggie tray. Good thing - cuz we ate it all, along with scrambled eggs for dinner. I guess tomorrow we had better get to the store.
`
Exercise: My children are grounded - for life! Friday nite we had a Wii Boxing tournament. My oldest knocked me out - TWICE... so he is grounded. Yesterday my other two played raquetball with me, they killed me.... they are grounded too. Grounded from what - we don't know, but it sounded good at the time.
`
That's all I have... Boxes have started arriving, so I hope you will keep checking back to see what wonderful creations are being made for our soldiers.

Quilts from Ft Collins

I hope you all are ready to keep track of things with me. Who knew I would have 3 different destinations going on at the same time!?? I really believe it is possible, and I have 3 different areas all set up - I hope I don't confuse any of you!!

These 5 beautiful quilts came from Marilyn in Ft C. She and Nancy ( from a previous post) quilt together, and meet weekly at a clubhouse to quilt.

My contact there tells me that 207 is our goal. I think that we might possibly be there. Maybe one or two shy of it... but that is a goal we can handle!

Marilyn - thank you SO much for these beautiful quilts. I tried to choose a favorite - but it just wasn't possible. I liked to ohh and ahh over them all.

I played my children in raquetball today. I think I might not be moving quickly tomorrow, I feel the stiff moving in..... I have mentioned that I have 3 boys right? and I had to play all 3 of them........ ugh

First 5 Warrior Games Quilts of Valor

These are the first 5 quilts out of 200 for the Warrior Games in May. I am so tickled. My friend Arlene is like a mega quilter and she and a group of folks make QOV's in Illinois. Pat - her driver angel just happened to be coming this way on Sunday ( from IL) and brought me these first 3 quilts. I like Pat!

These next two come from Carol in NY. She made these from the Not So Top Secret pattern. Warms my heart to know that people use that pattern for soldiers!!! And they are quilted so beautifully.

2010 Inaugeral Warrior Games QOV's

In May of 2010 over 200 Wounded Warriors will come to Colorado Springs to Compete in the Inaugural Warrior Games. This is the first year they are holding the games, and they are inviting military from all service branches.

These are some press releases to let you know more about what the games are. This way I don’t say the same thing – and get it wrong.

I have been asked to help coordinate the delivery of 200 Quilts of Valor to this event, to get one out to each service member competing in the games. Wouldn’t this be really cool? I mean – we sometimes have to work really hard to get QOV’s to the appropriate soldiers, and get thru the proper channels. Yet this time, they want us, and are working with us to get our quilts to these soldiers.

I know many of you are already involved in QOV, and have heard from me about our Warriors in Transition unit, and here I am back again. I am hoping you still want to listen. This is a great opportunity to show service members from all branches, wounded service members – that we, as a grateful nation, are appreciative of what they have done. That we are proud of them for the progress and accomplishments they have made, even through their injuries, and that we would like to offer them our thanks.
`
So I am asking again – for you to get involved. I am asking for you to help make this a possibility for these service members. I, of course, will be quilting away as best I can to offer quilts to this project as well. Our chaplains are excited to see that we are willing to extend our beautiful creations to these participants in the Warrior Games.
`
Here are the Requirements:
Quilt Size – Minimum 50 x 60, Maximum 72 x 90
Machine Quilted preferably – either by Long-arm, or DSM
Need to be to me by May 1st 2010

How to get involved:
· First – if you can provide a completed quilt – AWESOME!! Send it on and then watch for it on my blog.
· Second – do you have a top that you think would fit the bill but need it quilted? You can go to www.qovf.org and request a Long Armer and they will set you up with a Longarm Volunteer. Please include the backing, binding and top and send it on. When the volunteer LA’er is finished they can send it on to me, and we will bind it and get it ready. Wouldn’t this be a good way to get some of your UFO’s finished and provide comfort and honor to a wounded soldier? And then of course – watch for it on my blog.
· Third – Start talking this up to all of your quilting friends. Maybe they have been looking for a project to get involved with – and this is it!

Nancy over in Ft Collins met me last year when I attended a meeting of the Rocky Mountain Creative Quilters guild. It is a great guild, and very very artistic. I was able to tell them about Quilts of Valor, and a few folks jumped in to help. Nancy was one of them.
`
She made all 5 of these quilts, and they are quilted and ready to go. Very beautiful!!

I especially love the coin type quilts with the Friendship stars interspersed. I think they all are lovely.

Quilters Accountability Week 9

Whoo Doggies - what a week ( can you tell we are watching "The Beverly Hillbillies"?)
My First goal for March was to finish the String quilt top. I had made the majority of the blocks in February - and I didn't want another UFO ( i didn't really say another did I?).So - here it is. I had some 5 inch patriotic squares and used my strings to make semi log cabin blocks. In Gwen Marstons book she calls them Liberated Log Cabins, although I think her blocks might have been bigger. Anyways - One goal down!!

One of my other goals was to Quilt the 5th grade kids Quilts of Valor - I have 3 of the 10 done. But since I want to show you the kids that made the quilts with their quilts - you just get some little snippets. Now - are you sitting down for this - I mean it, you had better sit!! I bound - not one, but TWO quilts!!!. One was one of the Quilts of Valor, and the other was a gift quilt for a relative. Did I mention - it was HUGE!!!

This is a snippet of that quilt too....all in all I think I had a productive week, I wonder if I can do it again. I like marking things off my list!

Oh and exercise - I have been doing "ok" . I torqued my knee, or maybe it is torqued at me, so I have had to cut back the running part. I have been walking, and playing Basketball. My kid creamed me, but we had an audience at the rec center and they were cheering on my kids!!!

`

Today - my main exercise was trying to find two horses. I have some newbies to the place, and let them out in a different pasture - they hung around the water tank most of the day, until it got dark ( dummies) then they got lost. So the dog and I hiked about 2 miles and brought them home. They were happy. I guess tomorrow I should probably not let them stay out after dusk!!

Thank you from a WWII vet

Dear Quilters:
I was trained in the Army Infantry. I was drafted into the Army. I was 18 years old. I started out at Ft Knox, Kentucky, I guarded the gold.

I am from a family of 10 children, 6 boys and 4 girls.
*
Four boys served in the Korean War and WWII. One of my brothers was wounded when his aircraft carrier was sunk.
*
I taught school in Colorado after my service, 5th grade was my favorite. And as a student in LaSalle - I had perfect attendance for 9 years.
*
The Quilt of Valor is priceless. We have the quilt displayed on our curved stair case. The colors are gorgeous, and I am SO proud of this gift.

Monday night we had our tech rehearsal for the play that my youngest two are acting in, and my oldest is a behind the scenes guy. So, we didn't get home until 9pm, and it was dark. If you may remember - I don't LIKE the dark, and I had to do chores. And when I came in it was still dark, so my blog posting time was all messed up!!

`

But I hope you enjoy looking at this quilt - it is sure pretty.
