Orange you Glad!!! and a block tutorial

Today is my day on the Awesome ORANGE YOU GLAD  Bog hop!!

I saw this one and said "Self!! Go outside your color range and join in!"  and then I got to planning... and looking at my fabric and I said "Self!! you sure have a lot of orange-ish fabric.... why haven't you dug in?"

So this !! totally  got me going!!

Let's just jump in with the Final Product - and then, we will go to the Block Tutorial

Are you ready? Sure?  Alright?

I am not going to tell you how old these fabrics are - but I am pretty sure they are at least 12 years old. I must have loved them and had a plan - and then - put them in a hiding place! I am so glad I found them - there is Orange, shades or orange and pink in them - I loved them even more this time!

Because I am a machine quilter ( and was a machine quilter first!! haha) You just have to see the texture this panto creates.... I love it!! and I think... its pretty modern.
I decided that this quilt needs to live in my house - and I love Flannel Backings and I had the cutest puppy dog print - so ! This is the back!!
Now for the individual Block!!!

That's just a fun one right? I can see it in a lot of colors - and way more scrappy that this....

The block is 12 1/2 inches - so my 30 blocks made a 60 x 72 ish Size quilt.

Just so you know - when you open your colored pencil pack and you have the 72 pencil pack - you will be surprised at the lack of Shade Difference from the Oranges they have in there..... I think kindergarteners everywhere are going to be sad when they realize this... I had to have a piece of chocolate to stop my sadness!

Ta da!! Now you can make your Own Orange Block!!

As I worked through this Quilt I kept thinging - you have made orange quilts before.... Haven't you? and then I searched my photos... you know photos - always tell the truth right????

and look I did!!

and I did!!!

and the last one!!
Apparently I like Orange more than I thought I did!!

I so love your quilt for this hop. As bright and as beautiful as your blocks are it was your quilting that caught my eye, it's wonderful. Thanks for the block pattern. I have been looking at my scrap bag for this year and wondering what to do with it and I think this may be it. I'm so enjoying this start to my day.

Goodness, your 'orange' items are plentiful. Until I saw the close-up of the block, I didn't even notice that the fabrics were rather old. The quilt is gorgeous and I like the variation of color in it. Texture is lovely - excellent!

Love the bright orange and pink colors together! I need to step out of the box and use my orange fabrics! Yes chocolate makes everything better!

What a sweet quilt! I have lots of orange plus scraps, and I love it, but I have never made an orange quilt. Seeing yours makes me want to!

Orange is a color I seldom use myself. I'm glad you dug through your stash and found the perfect combination. Your block design and fabrics play so well together. The quilting is really fun looking! Love it!!!

Orange is not one of my favorites but you have made a beautiful quilt and I think it would be so pretty all scrappy as well :)

Fantastic orange quilts! Thanks for the tutorial on your main quilt--that's just how I work out my designs-on graph paper with colored pencils or crayons! The 2nd from last quilt really caught my eye!

your quilts are all lovely. thanks for sharing the pattern. this will be fun.

I am not a huge fan of orange - clothing is a no-go and home decor is only for autumn. But in the studio I have a surprising amount of orange, often mixed with pink as in your quilt. Good for you for stepping outside your usual/comfort range.

I also didn’t think I used orange much, and then when I started working on this hop all the different orange projects I’ve done seemed to surface

Rebecca Smith said...

Like you I’d thought I didn’t do much in orange until I was working on my project and all the other oranges stared me down

It's been interesting to see how many people aren't really into orange, but have come up with some amazingly beautiful projects like yours. I love how you designed it and used those 12 year old fabrics!

Your quilt is amazing! I always love seeing the quilts you make as well as your mystery quilts. The fabric is beautiful. I had that same daisy print too (a long time ago haha) Great finish! Thank you for sharing.

None of the boys are going to walk off with that quilt! and it is a really simple design for all that impact.

Interesting to see that not many people like orange. I'm one myself, but I did gain new respect for it when I did a project with orange -- for the exercise. And when I think about it, there's LOTS of orange in my latest project for Ricky's online class.

Good job.

This is a terrific block Alycia! Thanks for the tutorial and all the orange eye candy. I love orange with light turquoise, and have been feeling the urge to add a bit into my current orange and red quilt I've been working on this summer.
