Quilts of Valor - Block Drive time!!!!

Good Wednesday Morning my Quilters!! ( and non quilters - I love you too!!)

I am so excited to announce this years Block Drive Block!!! It was created by Jan O who blogs over at The Colorful Fabriholic  AND!!! She has an awesome book out - which I have loved making quilts from!!!

Here are the blocks we are going to make - there are two colorways -
1. A little bit of color,
2. A lot of color:

So here is the pattern:  ( and the details are at the end)

This is going to make TWO  9 inch ( 9 1/2 inch unfinished) Blocks - 1 Little color, and 1 lot of color

(ps - those are technical terms - ha ha!)

Materials and Cutting:
From left to right
1 - 2in x 9 1/2 inch strip
2 - 2 in x 8 inch strips
1 - 2 inch x 6 1/2 inch strip
1 - 7 inch square of Colored Fabric
1 - 7 inch square of Light Fabric
1 -2 in x 6 1/2 inch strip
2 - 2 inch x 8 in strip
1 - 2 inch x 9 1/2 inch

Step 1: Mark the light side with a diagonal line - and stitch 1/4 inch on each side of the diagonal
Slice open and press

This should measure 6 1/2 inches

Then take your 2 inch x 6 1/2 inch strips and add to the sides as shown

We build these sort of like a log cabin
Take one of your 2 inch x 8inch strips and add to the next side

press and add your second 2 inch x 8 inch Strip

Now add your last strip - the 2 inch x 9 1/2 inch strip - and Voila - you have two finished blocks!!!

This quilt below is the mock up of the light colored block

I am still working on a stitched version of the dark colored block quilt
but! I ran out of time - you all understand right???

Barn Quilts

I have LONG been an admirer, and gazer, and stopper of traffic when I saw a Barn Quilt.  I just LOVE them.   I had told the boys - someday we are making one.

and then one day - I had a surprise!!

At our QOV Sew days - my group of Quilters presented me with a little gift!!

My Dear Connie's Husband made this!

I was quite speechless
and shocked -
I mean  - how did they know that I wanted one of these?

It is hung up on our red barn - and I think it is perfect!!

I see it every morning when I wake up, and when I walk dogs, and well - anytime I look out the window - it's the best view on the whole place!!!

Thank you Quilting Group
and Thank you Mr H - you are quite talented!!

( SO are all the Quilters!!!)

Whoot Whoot - A top is finished

This is the one I showed you on Monday - NOW!! at a top stage!!

A lot of you emailed and asked me for this pattern - and I wish I could claim that it was all mine, and I was the designer - but alas.... I am not.... it was a Missouri Star Pattern - and because I love you....

Here is the You Tube linK

Strips and 4 patch

I will tell you it was not hard, I will tell you it took me forever - I had a graduation, summer jobs, a mystery quilt, pigs and I am sure I had a million other things, I just don't want to look too bad!!  Ha ha!

I used a cowboy jelly roll and solid blue - and .... I think I like it......

Now to finish the Third project that was on my design wall - so so long ago:

Have a great weekend!!!

Travel Time -Devils Backbone

The last two weeks of summer the boys and I ( and sometimes Wrangler Man) trekked all over on short day trips.... or long ones, but not far enough that we couldn't get back to do chores. It was fun!

I showed you a few photos of Devils Backbone - and now! Here are more. I finally downloaded the 3 million 14 kajillion photos - and picked a few that turned out!!

There is this place not too far away - and you can get to it and hike a little or a lot - A little is REALLY cool - A lot takes you way farther away that you think....

Just in case you didn't know - those are my kids
They are my buddies - but they eat alot
Which it good if you are the one that packed the snacks -
your backpack lightens quickly

This is the backbone - isn't that cool!

And here is another part -
can you see the skull?
We decided that we had better be nice or the rock people would do that!

You can just see forever!!!

That big mountain back there
We think that is Long's Peak in Rocky Mtn National Park

This is me - at the bottom of the trail
I didn't know if we should pick the upper fork or the lower fork
I voted for the easy one
I lost.... but it was good to lose this time!!

We didn't see any rattlesnakes, and only met one other group of hikers.
Not to bad of a trip
and they took me to pizza afterwards!

Quilts of Valor - August in CO

Oh my - I am pretty sure that I have not settled into my new school routine yet - how about you? Does it take you a while to adapt to new routines???

The one thing I am pretty consistent at - is getting to the Wednesday QOV show - good thing I have a reminder on my phone!!  ( and you thought I was just organized - Ha)

These first two ( above and below)
are pieced by Candi and quilted by Kathy & Sue

I really like the zig zag in that string quilt!!

This cute one - with Uncle Sam there!
It was made by Margaret and quilted by Kathy and Sue

And then we have this Grey Beauty
Pieced and Quilted by Judy V

And all the way from Linda R
She made these three amazing Quilts of Valor!!

I love that we can do scrappy and planned and have such awesome Quilts to Award to our Veterans touched by War.   They are just so amazing!!

Come back next week for sure ! Mark it on your calendars
We will start this years QOV CO block drive - and it will be fun!

The block is amazing
It was designed by Jan O
she blogs at:

She even designed a Quilt pattern to go with the block - so bonus!!

I have another Social Media question for you...
How many of you are members of Craftsy?

Don't worry - it's not a trick question -
and I'll tell you why I asked it next week!

Enjoy!!

Pro....gress......

Say that title in your pig calling voice..... pro ( high pitched) gress ( low pitched)   That;s what I am told your hog calling voice should be....

Why do you need to know? I have no idea - except - I had to do pig chores!!

Why?

School started - and I Don't! Like! it!!

2 of my children have left my house - and I did not give them permission......

(alright - maybe I did - but seriously - all on the same day?????)

Because they all left me - I did get to spend a little therapy time behind my machine.... but mostly I just cleaned up after them ( sigh)

There was just one row on my design wall - and a huge pile behind the machine -
I am proud to say - there is Progress!!
Slow - but it totally counts!!

And!!
I cooked !!
I made Meatball subs in a Zucchini !!!
Every year Wrangler Man asks - How many zukes should I plant
and I say ONE
and he plants 6
So .... any good freezer recipes for me?
Beside Zucchini bread????

And just because I took this photo
Here is a trumpeting Elephant to make your Monday!

Hope you all have a great Monday!!!

Antique Family Quilts

One of my clients was recently visiting her family, and they uncovered these quilt blocks.  She took them home and set them in this Blue Fabric - and Wow!! What an awesome Family Heirloom!!

I was the lucky one to quilt it.  And I will tell you - it was hard to give back!

I think I need a larger house, so that I can have quilts on every wall!!

Isn't it just yummy!!!

I just kept staring and the fabrics, and finding a new favorite each time I looked at it!!

Hope you have a great Friday!!!

Design wall ( or Pile) progress

My design wall is slowly shaping up..... very slowly.... I have had all of my kids around and!! Wrangler man and we might have been goofing off a bit.....  so ...

It went from that ( above)
to this
(below)

I made a table runner out of the patriotic pieces
I have my husbands Grandmas HUGE Ranch table - it extends big enough for 16 (or more)
people to eat around it - so it should fit well

And then the middle project

Is now a pile under my sewing machine....
to be clipped and continued

the bottom project... it will see it's day - soon.... right??

One of my photo assignments was silhouette
and this was one of my images
I will show the others tomorrow on my photo blog

because I take toooooo many of them!!

First off! Look My Brick Cottage Lane Quilt of Valor has been awarded ;-)
PS - the popcorn bowl is for my benefit - I told him if he was asked to share, he should at least get some popcorn out of it.... so thats the joke there ;-)

The Two below
on the Left is a Lasagna Quilt, pieced by the Greeley Group Quilted by Connie
( the Lasagna quilt is by atkinson designs)
on the Right - totally made by Connie

On the Left - made by Kristi and quilted by Crystal

Both of these lovelies were made by Meredith and Quilted by Ron!

As were these two beauties!!

A few of you asked how the boys did ( thank you for asking) ! They did well. Because of their ages, they are both in different classes - and the both won Champion in their class! Not Too Bad

Now both of their quilts will go to State Fair
And then Off to a Veteran!!

Happy Wednesday - Enjoy!!
