Quilts of Valor - Block Drive time!!!!

Good Wednesday Morning my Quilters!! ( and non quilters - I love you too!!)

I am so excited to announce this years Block Drive Block!!! It was created by Jan O who blogs over at The Colorful Fabriholic  AND!!! She has an awesome book out - which I have loved making quilts from!!!

Here are the blocks we are going to make - there are two colorways -
1. A little bit of color,
2. A lot of color:

So here is the pattern:  ( and the details are at the end)

This is going to make TWO  9 inch ( 9 1/2 inch unfinished) Blocks - 1 Little color, and 1 lot of color

(ps - those are technical terms - ha ha!)

Materials and Cutting:
From left to right
1 - 2in x 9 1/2 inch strip
2 - 2 in x 8 inch strips
1 - 2 inch x 6 1/2 inch strip
1 - 7 inch square of Colored Fabric
1 - 7 inch square of Light Fabric
1 -2 in x 6 1/2 inch strip
2 - 2 inch x 8 in strip
1 - 2 inch x 9 1/2 inch

Step 1: Mark the light side with a diagonal line - and stitch 1/4 inch on each side of the diagonal
Slice open and press

This should measure 6 1/2 inches

Then take your 2 inch x 6 1/2 inch strips and add to the sides as shown

We build these sort of like a log cabin
Take one of your 2 inch x 8inch strips and add to the next side

press and add your second 2 inch x 8 inch Strip

Now add your last strip - the 2 inch x 9 1/2 inch strip - and Voila - you have two finished blocks!!!

This quilt below is the mock up of the light colored block

I am still working on a stitched version of the dark colored block quilt
but! I ran out of time - you all understand right???

Remember when I asked you about Craftsy? that was so I could upload the pdf file that Jan created for you - it is uploaded here:     QOV block drive pdf

Thanks so much, Alycia, for featuring my block in your block drive! I love your dark version of it and can't wait to see how your quilt turns out. I hope this easy block design generates lots of blocks - and quilts - for your drive!

I saw the block on Jan's blog earlier today. I like the colored version and may actually have the scraps to make that one. I don't have a lot of neutrals unfortunately.

This pattern looks like it will make beautiful quilts. How wonderful you are to do this for our veterans.

I have 50 made so far. They are very addictive. I think I just may put a light top together. Cannot wait to see what you come up with for the dark ones.

I will see what I can do, we have a local VA hospital in the next town. I would love to be able to make one or two of these beautiful quilt patterns for these deserving men!
