Colorado QOV's Next scrappy Block

My Colorado QOV group does different blocks every so often and we share them between all the Quilt of Valor Groups here in Colorado -

Our last block drive ended up with enough blocks for 4 different groups to make a Quilt ( or two) ! It was great! And it helps keep our groups awards moving right along!

So the next block we are working on is a Double 4 patch!
:

We are doing reds and blues in the place of the Blues shown
and scrappy Creams and whites

Here are a couple of sample layouts of the quilts we can make:

These blocks are so great for a Leader/Ender project!
And In the instructions - I even show you how to use 5 inch squares as an option!

Interested in joining in?
Here is the link to the pattern instructions:

We are doing this as our April, May and June Block
with hopefully all of them appearing in my mail box by then ;-)

For every block sent in you are entered into the drawing - there is a chance to win one of these awesome shower heads from WaterPik  . WaterPik has been a wonderful supporter of our Block Drives so I love to support them,. Not only do they have these awesome, easy to install Showerheads - they carry a great line of Water Flossers.

( PS - this is me talking now- not their PR rep)  After having 3 boys in braces - two times each... YES people - that is why I have to quilt - stress relief!!  We have had only 1 cavity between the three boys - Can you imagine that?

I credit that to their daily water flossing!!   Anyways .... I digress......

Monday Monday - October Monday

Boy - did Monday sneak up on me!!!  We had the best weekend - Cross Country meet, Football game - the Border Wars!!  Which is a big deal in our house! We have one Graduate of University of Wyoming, one of Colorado State University, and one student at CSU..... so that's awesome!!!

We are a house divided - ha ha!

So here is my latest group of projects..... are you ready? My QDD has totally kicked in - but it's good - it's refreshing, and it's making me excited to get back to my Blue Crumb Blocks - that's a good sign!!

Project 1:
These are cut pieces and started Half Squares for our Log Cabin Block Drive Block ( block pattern courtesy of The Colorful Fabriholic    At our next sew day we are going to have some helpers that are new to stitching, so we thought that we would get prepared with the half squares and teach them the rest ;-)

Project 2:
These are going to be the Disappearing Star Block ( I don;t know the link-sorry) and I am making them for another QOV group - they are sort of addicting as a leader/ender!!

The cool thing is - I had a bucket of 5 inch squares and thought I could use those - and, um, well, when I opened it - it sort of exploded..... so now I have to make the blocks so that I can close the lid again!!

I have a lot of the parts made - hopefully some assemble starts this week so I can show you the blocks

I may end up with a whole quilt worth!!!

Project 3:

Oh!! and the first clue ( the Fabric Requirements) have been posted for our MysteryQuilts4Military Yahoo group - so go join in - its a fun, easy, scrap buster quilt - perfect for just before the holidays hit!!

And of course - even though I have made 3 of these so far - I will make another one, so that my 2 1/2 inch scrap bucket will close..... I sense a theme here.... you??

Quilts of Valor - Block Drive time!!!!

Good Wednesday Morning my Quilters!! ( and non quilters - I love you too!!)

I am so excited to announce this years Block Drive Block!!! It was created by Jan O who blogs over at The Colorful Fabriholic  AND!!! She has an awesome book out - which I have loved making quilts from!!!

Here are the blocks we are going to make - there are two colorways -
1. A little bit of color,
2. A lot of color:

So here is the pattern:  ( and the details are at the end)

This is going to make TWO  9 inch ( 9 1/2 inch unfinished) Blocks - 1 Little color, and 1 lot of color

(ps - those are technical terms - ha ha!)

Materials and Cutting:
From left to right
1 - 2in x 9 1/2 inch strip
2 - 2 in x 8 inch strips
1 - 2 inch x 6 1/2 inch strip
1 - 7 inch square of Colored Fabric
1 - 7 inch square of Light Fabric
1 -2 in x 6 1/2 inch strip
2 - 2 inch x 8 in strip
1 - 2 inch x 9 1/2 inch

Step 1: Mark the light side with a diagonal line - and stitch 1/4 inch on each side of the diagonal
Slice open and press

This should measure 6 1/2 inches

Then take your 2 inch x 6 1/2 inch strips and add to the sides as shown

We build these sort of like a log cabin
Take one of your 2 inch x 8inch strips and add to the next side

press and add your second 2 inch x 8 inch Strip

Now add your last strip - the 2 inch x 9 1/2 inch strip - and Voila - you have two finished blocks!!!

This quilt below is the mock up of the light colored block

I am still working on a stitched version of the dark colored block quilt
but! I ran out of time - you all understand right???

Remember when I asked you about Craftsy? that was so I could upload the pdf file that Jan created for you - it is uploaded here:     QOV block drive pdf

The details!!
Please use patriotic fabrics - these are the most chosen and desired for our Veterans!

If you want to be entered for prizes ( which will be detailed later)
you will need to send them to me ;-)
