Design Wall Monday and JAL

It rained!!! And it was a horrible Cold rain, and so I decided that Sunday I was going to drop all plans and play!!!

So I did!! The Empress ( http://imperamagna.blogspot.com/) is hosting a Quilt a Long  and I thought i would join in!  On my stash report from yesterday I told you I got some Moda Cheddar... and here is what I am doing with it.   I was going to use a yellow, but I think I like the Cheddar much better. I hope it blends with all the plaids.

And of course, I might not lay them out like this - but this is what I have done so far, and a lot more cut up!

This is my son and I - he had homecoming this week, he was royalty, and was so busy - but when we went to take pictures with the girls - I got in on one....I am officially average in our house.....

Sunday Stash Report

oops.... I went to a quilt shop... or two.... they lured me in.....

On my way home from a Quilt of Valor delivery - I thought that maybe I could check out the local quilt shops and see if they were a part of Quilts of Valor, or the Under Our Wings program.... and I had to check out what they had.... right???

So the first stop was and Outlet store, and it was crazy - I have really never seen that much fabric all in one place - seriously... and I bought some Cheddar Moda Fabric.  You'll have to come see my design wall to see how I used it.

I found this pattern at LadyBugHill Quilts - It looks a little like the memory quilt that I made, but it has measurements for it!!! YAY

The next stop was http://www.hcquilts.com/ - High Country Quilts. And lookie what I found!!

Now this next fabric has no relation to QOV's - but its a halloween jelly roll - isn't it cute?

From Colorado Springs I headed north to CastleRock and went to Sew-Ciety - and I found some pumpkin fabric to match my Halloween Jelly Roll!!!

And a 6 yard pack of crazy fabrics - I have no clue what it is for, but I liked it... so it came home with me!

So - My stash report :

( this is 3 weeks worth)

Fabric in This week:     13.5 yards
Fabric In YTD:           220.795 yards

Fabric Used this week:    61.09 yards
Fabric Used YTD:     387.92   Yards

Total Fabric Busted:   -167.12 yards

Then I went to Lady Bug Hill Quilts ( http://www.ladybughillquilts.com/)  they are involved in Quilts of Valor and are starting to have sew days.... Nice!!!

Quilt of Valor Deliveries

This has been a great Quilt of Valor week!!! Monday, I was invited to lunch with three Women Marines. They were totally awesome - one served during Korea, one during Vietnam, and the other during peace times. They are going to honor 3 marines injured in the line of duty, and so we picked 3 Quilts of Valor to award to them..... Wow!!! What women!!!

Tuesday, I spent the day with my new Chaplains. 2 of them are super new - as in - 3 weeks on duty.... so I trained them well *giggle*   They thought it quite funny that I have been there a lot longer than them ( this is our SEVENTH YEAR quilters - you are awesome!)

We handed out 44 Quilts of Valor in total - 31 to the Wounded Warriors unit, and 13 in the hospital itself.   These Chaplains have their hands full and were just tickled to be able to hand these quilts out.

They could not say enough good things about our quilts, and the ability to comfort a soldier. It was quite the honor quilters!!  They could not thank you quilters enough!!

Every month we are handing out Quilts and I try so very hard to update you here - but I have to say - I am not the best numbers person... I love the detail, but there is so much BIG stuff to take care of that I hope I don't forget.

That being said - our number are seeming to be pretty consistent at about 66 to 70 Quilts of Valor per month....all this to say - please don't leave me now!!

And to say THANK YOU for your support. These quilts truly do mean a lot, and are such a comfort to these Veterans. They are so amazed that some one really took this amount of time to make something for them.   I keep telling them - Quilters are awesome!!!

Monday

Monday came Quick!!! I had all these plans to take all of Sunday and quilt and sew and quilt and eat chocolate.... but there were other things.....

We headed up northeast of us for a little recon mission, and I tell you the colors there were gorgeous. I always thought one had to head into the mountains to see the colors change so vividly... wrong.

I am going to wow you with my great photographic instincts ( giggle) ready??

How about those clouds?

Out here the plains go forever - you can see any storm as it comes in... like this one, that caught us running back to the truck... when it rains - it RAINS!!

Doesn't the orange just stand out so starkly?

Oh the colors!

what a crew!

We made it back home in time to see this...

From our deck.
with our feet up.
with a cold glass of water in our hands.
wondering if we will ever get back to the sewing machine.

Quilting a QOV

You ever have those days that you are just brain blocked? Well I do, and today is one of them! We have so much stuff going on, and so many places to be it has been crazy..... but I don't want that to sound like a complaint - I am lovin' it.  I love that my kids each have their own interests, and sports, and friends... and I enjoy hanging out with them - but boy howdy - do they know how to fill a day!!!

My fun quilting has kind of taken a back burner this semester - which again is not a complaint - just a *how do they do it all* question.....

I felt really lucky to get some time in this week - and finish up my customer quilts for the week - and then get this puppy in!!! It is a jelly roll race quilt from Ethel. She made it when we had our sew day - and had a jelly roll race!!! I love how it turned out.

Thanks Ethel for putting in your hard work!!! I am bringing it back for you to bind - Bwahh haa haa
