A Quilt of Valor Presentation and another Giveaway

Saturday morning found us in very negative Temps - when we were doing chores it was -29 and I was not a fan..

We had a Quilt of Valor presentation scheduled - and I wondered if we would get any cancellations - can you believe that we did not!! Over 100 Veterans showed up to Honor these Vets ( and of course, have a warm breakfast)

I was impressed - as it was -11 when the presentation started... WHO ORDERED THAT!!!

Look at all those Smiling faces!!It was so cool to have them all arrive and they all Ohhed and aahhed appropriately over their quilts!! but the Smiles - oh lawsy mercy - the smiles - they just melt my heart!!!

This is my last giveaway this week - but... rest assured there are more. I can't think of better people( Quilters) for my excess Stash to go to!!  I will ship in the Continental US - some of you no reply bloggers need to leave me a way to contact you....

This is a fun stack of Flannels!! and even a plaid or two... but they are super soft!! We are supposed to get out of these negatives this week - but my flannel quilts have been pulled out... I think I might be in a permanent state of chilled haha!

I will draw at the end of tomorrow!!!! ( the 17th) so comment today!! and tell me your favorite snack while stitching .. or maybe you don't snack?

PS - Tomorrow... the First clue of Stars Like Spaghetti comes out... you won't want to miss it!

My First Quilt of Valor ( top) for the year!!! and giveaway 5

 Go me!!!

So!! this one started out as the 20 stars for 20 years anniversary top from Quilts of Valor. I followed the first 3 steps (ish) and then.... went a little off course... BUT!!!

I think I like what it Morphed into!!

Mine will be completely different that the rest !! It ended up being 60 x 72 inches - so I think that will be perfect...

Now to get it into the quilting que....

I was looking back at some of my QOV posts - it seems like some years ( like 2012) I committed to 12 QOV's that year... and made all these goals. I met them - and then some!!

I don't have a QOV goal this year - I think I will take it as it comes and see how many things I can make... maybe just a personal race for me to make as many as I can squeeze in?

I also know that I suck at statistics.. and keeping counts of things.

Who Like Oriental fabrics? this is a bag of them!! Smaller pieces - some are 12 inch square - but enough to make that litt;e butterfly - or something else.

Today tell me if you like Applique or not... And of course- the winners will be drawn on the 17th - so make sure you leave me a way to contact you if you are the winner!

Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2022

I am starting to think about this years Rainbow Scrap Challenge.

( I know - I'm a little behind... the story of my life)

I don't know exactly what I want to do yet - but I sorted some hand dyed Scraps into a bucket....

What I do know -

I don't want to work with these blocks:

These are the blocks that I used for the 2021 Challenge and I made placemats. A LOT of placemats!

I had fun, but I am over it... well at least for January.

So!! Who wants these?

Disclaimer:

  • They are pieced by a sweet lady who works with her scraps
  • Not a one is the exact same size (I ended up piling 6 together and trimming them and bam - they were the same size then
  • There is a lot.  Like maybe 50
  • If you are interested - leave me a comment here
  • On Sunday I will pick TWO people to send  blocks too.
  • Must live in the continental US  - I am not familiar enough with overseas shipping anymore

Now I must go back to thinking about what project I would like to do for RSC

This weekend did not give me much time for stitching... but its all good - because I had fun!

I did have a little rearranging time in my quilting area... well actually the whole front room and kitchen, but that will have to be another post. Because today... after I post this little giveaway... I am going to Paint!!

Oh yes, a few of you warned me, and you were right... its not just the floors that needed to be redone - but I am having some fun ! And I will have a whole new looking kitchen when I am done.

Interested? Leave me a comment by Friday and we will choose one of you to have these fabrics winging your way!! and you don't even have to tell me anything... just a Hey ya! or me! or if you really want... tell me what you are working on

Fabric Giveaway Day 6

Joyful asked if my sewing area was looking really organized... the answer was yes.. it did... but then I started stitching again... so now.. no.

I greatly admire organized people, and people who can put things away at the end of the day. I can do that in my House ( you know like dishes, laundry, food) ... but in my sewing space?  DO NOT mess with my piles people... you might see a side of me you don't like 😂🤣!

Alright - so todays Fabrics I won't use in 2021....

Aren't these so cute!  Those little sewing machine ones have different machines and scenes on them. I counted how many there were, but I didn't write it down - so Surprise!! there is more than 2!!

We had fun looking at the side dishes, appetizers , etc - so apparently we like food.... but this time - If you are interested tell me what you favorite place to visit would be... You can have gone there - or just dreaming about going there....

And ps - quite a few of you are no reply bloggers, so leave me a way to email you please ;-)

Fabric Giveaway .... Day 4

 Happy Christmas Eve Day!!!

Hope you day will be awesome!

So these are all good size pieces - like 12 x 18 inches or larger. Again - I love them! they are so soft and feminine.... but... I won't use them next year.

Not that they have to be used in 2021.... but I have already made a list of some quilts I DO want to make....  and these just aren't a part of that plan.

Okay - I just saw your mouth drop open - yes - I actually think I have a plan for 2021... I know... I am more of a fly by the seat of my pants quilter. And that will probably still happen, I don't think I tiger can change... but! I do have a plan - hahaha!

Interested in these?

Leave me a comment with your Favorite Holiday Appetizer

I'll draw Saturday!

Crafted Applique:New Possibilities Blog hop and Giveaway!

Welcome to my day on the "Crafted Applique: New Possibilities" Blog Hop!!

I am so excited to be included in this hop!!
AND!!! I am in LOVE with this book!!

Why is that you ask?  Well the very first sentence that I read was: "It is true that many quilters hesitate or even run the other way when it comes to doing applique...."  and I about screamed - OH MY GOSH !!! Is Lara in my house someplace??

I have long admired applique quilts, and the gorgeous items people make ... but I have been SO Intimidated by the process!!!

I sat down with Lara's book as soon as it arrived and started reading.  I told the kids to fend for themselves - and Oh ya - go feed the animals would you???  And I Kept on reading!

I was SO intrigued, and then I realized... I had all the supplies.... and I could "Possibly" do this!!

And then I started trying to pick out a project - and you know what - that one on the front cover is just calling my name!  When I was a kid we had a pink little camper that looked just like that - and my Mom and Dad took us camping in it a lot!

BUT!!! My husband ( who is sometimes wise - but please don't tell him I said that) wondered out loud if I was jumping in to fast.  And After I glared at him - I thought - you know - maybe I should try a small little piece first.

I did - I tried something small. I had some of my photos printed on fabrics, so I thought I would like to try to applique that to a fabric that I am planning on using in a Quilt of Valor....

Here is my first attempt - It was so great - it worked just like Lara said!!!

Then!! I thought - I wonder if I can use the applique zig zag like stitch on this?  The last ( and ONLY) other time I tried applique, it  gathered and bunched and got stuck in my machine - which is why I may have never attempted it again.... but look:

It worked - no bunching, and I am learning to make better applique stitches!! Yay - I have learned so much from this book and her techniques, I really am ready to start the camper project now!! yay!!

From a complete beginner in applique, and a self taught quilter - I can truly recommend this book! It is perfect for everyone - even those a little intimated by Applique!!

Graciously Lara has offered to send "Crafted Applique: New Possibilities"  to one winner drawn on this blog post!

So Leave a comment ( ON THIS POST) - tell me if you are an experienced appliquer' or a beginner.

For a second chance -Leave me a second comment and  tell me if you follow me.... either here on my blog, or my facebook page Quiltygirl.com  ( and if you don't - start now and leave me a comment!!)

On May 21st, I will draw a winner and Lara will send you a book directly ;-)

If you are in a hurry to purchase this book - head to your local quilt shop and show them the love  - or head over to Lara;s blog - Buzzin Bumble  and purchase from her!

Lastly - go read these other reviews !!
