Wonderful Quilts of Valor

The first two quilts came from T. in St Louis MO. They have really neat pictures of wildlife on them. Defineatly an outdoorsy, masculine quilt. And I know this because my guys loved them!! Thanks T!!

The Next Two quilts were made by the Livermore Community Quilters - Laurel and Audrey. Cathie in Utah volunteered to quilt them for me - WOW did she do an awesome job!!

The stars and Bars one is a pattern I made up - you can find it in the side bar - It's called... are you ready?.... Stars and Bars!

I need to let you know that I am really trying to get all the pictures up quickly. I am amazed at how well we all work under pressure - as it is AMAZING the packages that I have recieved this last week. So if your quilt is not up today - I promise I will get it up. I want to give everyone their day on the blog. Plus it gives me great pictures to show.

And there's more!

Way back in September I was invited to go visit Rosalie's sewing group. Her group sews on Thursday Mornings in a small corner room at her church in Greeley.

~

I went and told them about Quilts of Valor and our challenge. I also took a couple of Stars and Bars patterns and the fabric half way cut for one. I had thought I would sew it, but they volunteered - and you CAN NOT say no to that! Plus I knew I had more fabric to cut.... (hmmmm? Really? )

~

I had also passed out the Not So Top Secret Project pattern to bribe folks to sew.

~

Last night Rosalies group showed up with EIGHT! ... count 'em eight quilts! All of them are wonderful. But I have to tell you - I was really drawn to the scrappy Not So Top Secret quilt. I really think I should make one that scrappy. I took them all home, and layed that one out and just stared.

Ladies - Thank you SO much!!

But Wait!!! There are EVEN more..... and yesterday my UPS man showed up with a Dolly full of boxes.... so there are more that one can imagine - and you HAVE to come back to see them all.

~

My one observation? We quilters work great under pressure.... come back tonite!

Hang on to your hats

People ask me - how do you do this? Aren't you worn out, don't you want a break? ... I have to tell you ... NO. There are not many times in my life that I don't want to be me. Well, maybe when I am supposed to be cleaning the house I would trade, but mostly I Like being me. I like my life, and I like seeing where things will take me. And when I get to see others inspired to cover our wounded soldiers - and see the excitement - I really Love being me.

Sweet Cecily - she is in my guild. She also has a little sewing group at the First Lutheran Church up in Eaton. She and her group dove wholeheartedly into Quilts of Valor - and last nite at my guild meeting - they showed up with 12 finished quilts and matching pillowcases.

~

They presented them at show and tell. Thank goodness for my never ending purse - and that I have put my camera back in it... I started snapping pictures as my neighbor started counting the quilts!

There is even two Stars and Bars quilts. I am so glad to know that others have finished theirs!!

BUT WAIT.... THERE IS MORE..... so don't get too far away. I had to go help the horse shoer - and now I have to go make lunches.... but I will be back.... This is NOT ALL that came to my guild last nite.

Oh La La - Patriotic Beauties

Look at these pretties!!! Dont' they make you want to snuggle up in them? The Cream with Red Stars camef rom Kerin H in Nevada MO. And so does the Wavy one. That wave is pretty nifty - I have a feeling that Kerin is a pro at curved seams after that one!

Today has been label day - I have ironed on 18 labels, and made 20 more labels, so I should be good to go. And it is science fair day. My oldest son has been working on a project - that will be shown today. I guess parents get to wait in the parking lot... bummer. Maybe the teachers will have mercy on us and let us learn some science too.

Stars and Bars

It has been a while since I worked on my Stars and Bars quilt. But I am sewing on it at least one day a month. During our guild QOV sew day! Last time I got all the 1/2 square triangles sewn and pressed.

This first picture is on all my pieces cut out. I used a lot of scraps. And I got this one all cut out - and it was borrowed *giggle* but will defineatly come back finished! So I cut another one... I am getting good practice at cutting up scraps!

So for my quilt I took the 56 3 3/8 inch white squares and drew a diagonal line across them on the wrong side. Then I grabbed one of the 56 3 3/8 inch Blue squares. I put them right sides together and sewed 1/4 inch on one side of the line. Turned the square and sewed 1/4 inch on the other side of the line. Then I cut on the line and pressed.

This last Wednesday I layed them out like a friendship star and started sewing them all together. I used a red center. I think I got a total of like 8 done, but whos counting when you are having fun right? I think I need ( okay I know I need) 28 of these blocks. So I best get to sewing them....

Stars and Bars Fabric Requirements

Well - the last three Stars and Bars quilts that I have started have been confiscated- and two are almost finished! So this is exciting. I have decided to start another. I mean - you just can't have too many projects going on at the same time right??

So The Yardage :
Royal Blue for the Stars : 1 1/4 yards
Cream for Stars and Bars : 1 yard
Red for center of Star and Bars : 1 1/4 yards
Gold for the inner border: 5/8 yards
Blue for Outer Border : 1 1/8 yards

Now the first time I did it - I did it all scrappy - so if you are looking for yardage that way I will give you the breakdowns.

Star:
Red : Need 28 - 3 inch Squares
Blue: Need 112 - 3 inch Squares and 56 - 3 3/8 inch squares
Cream: Need 56 - 3 3/8 inch squares
~
Bars:
Red: need 56- 3 x 8 pieces
Cream: need 28 - 3 x 8 pieces

Stars and Bars

I have been working on another Quilt of Valor pattern that can use 3 inch scraps. I have a lot of those and was trying to think of a way to use them... so Here it is!
~
I did it in EQ and my sweet hubby converted it to a pdf file - so it is 4 pages long and pretty easy to print out. I cut out two of the tops and got them all ready to sew. I took them up to my Moms quilt group sew day to show them how to do the half square triangles. It was great. And one of her sweet friends took the kit home to finish. The second kit is ready for my mom. So.. it works! Yay!!

Our count is growing for the 400 quilts. I am really excited to watch the progress and excited to see the enthusiasm in helping out our soldiers. I am also getting to be better at speaking in public. (scary) I talked with a group Sunday and am talking to another tomorrow.
