Purple RSC Blocks

As we are almost to the end of the month - I am just really getting started on my purples!!

That timing thing is really throwing me off this month haha!!

Here are the purples blocks that I have finished:

These are really fun to make. I had scraps, and then I picked some up at a guild meeting. So much fun to combine the purples and patterns  and... you know!! the plaids!!!

I got one purples had done - its sort of a dusty purple - but! it finished the yard ball!!

I finished the two green ones from last month ;-)

so my hat pile is growing. We need them by October to fill the Operation Christmas Child boxes.
At least I am not behind on that deadline ( yet)

ms Crazy Bella - she was helping to pick out which purple scrap to use next ;-) she is such a helper 😇😇

And us!!
we were heading out to a shoot ( mounted shooting competition off our horses) early in the morning. I thought we better get a good before photo - as the afters...

We are tired, and dirty, and the hair.... well the hair is not so pretty after a 100deg day and the humidity we have been having haha

RSC- Green!!! Buckeye Beauty ( jewel box) ( Diamond Chain) Update

Green is our Rainbow scrap color - and!! I love Green ... but apparently - May doesn't have enough days in it for me to finish this top. That's okay!! I will keep stitching... but you will want to read on as to what might have delayed me a bit.

Here's where I find myself on the Green RSC quilt top:

I need 80 blocks as I want this one to be bigger than couch size. It actually has a recipient in mind at this moment! So I need to keep stitching some blocks and get it the right size.

But look what distracted me!

A cute new baby!!! And check out my Bella - laying all nice and calm by her. Puppy belongs to my son - he works in the field ( archaeologist) so he got himself a companion. She did come home about a month ago to meet us - and it was a little chaotic - but he was only here 3 days - so we made do.

This time the weather made him stay for a week - oh! and a wedding! My girls did SO good with her. Daisy - well - Daisy - she lets you know when she is done with the puppy , so we made sure to remove her from the situation. Bella - she was so curious - and just couldn't figure out how to play and run when that puppy was on a leash.  Puppy is a 7 1/2 ish month old Pound puppy. She is learning how to follow rules;-)

And check out my Reno baby!! So Reno's mommy is pregnant again - and we have a bet going on here as to when she is going to actually deliver the baby.... the bet keeps changing - as so far - I have been winning them all. I say June 3 - K says last Saturday, Last Monday and Last night....  no baby yet.

Puppy left last night - My Pups are all worn out - I see a catch up day in my future!

its a BLOCK Party!!!

I want to try all the patterns.. and all the colors.... and its making me have piles of Blocks!!

They are having a PARTY!!!

First up - Sandra at MMM Quilts is doing a Glowing Hearts QAL. And I pulled all my fabrics and they just sat there... until! it rained!!  ( YAY for rain)

NOW !! I have three hearts done and have more ready to go. I really did follow her instructions except I didn't. I struggle with certain things( like an accurate 1/4 inch sometimes) - so I decided to make it easier on me - and created pinwheels in the process - They will be used in something!!

I am still working on the Lo and Behold Art Deco Quilt - I got all of Block 2 done - 27 of them!!

They are not hard.... just time consuming - and there are 27 of them - so there is that!

I got all the rest of my scraps prepped to make my Teal Not RSC bigger ( no photo - but I want to feel the accomplishment!)

and!!

I got started on my Green RSC Quilt blocks -

Only one!! but !! I have dug thru the scraps and pulled enough greens for a Whole Quilt top! Oh ya!!!

Chantal asked if I was going to make a whole quilt in every RSC color this year ... Yes? Maybe? If I have enough fabric? well... if that is the criteria - Yes?   haha!!

Oh!! I could pretend to shake the magic 8 ball and see what it says " Time will tell"  Yep!! there you have it!!

Ohhh back to the sewing room!!! Lets see if I can put my *get it done* hat on instead of my *get it started* hat!!

I have decided to try to do a Photo A Day thing again - but I am posting them on my Photo blog - if your interested... alyciaclicks.blogspot.com/

Blue Buckeyes with a twist Top

I am wrapping up the Blues for this months RSC... That gives me a day or two to clean up and guess what March's color will be????  (yellow!!)

I finished all my Blue Buckeyes - but!! do you remember that ORANGE is the Complimentary color to blue? And I live in BRONCO country... so you know... I just had to try something -and An Idea came to me...

But - after a few blocks I didn't like it - so I changed plans.

I had decided that I wanted to make Border blocks with orange - and in my mind I could get them to look like an extension of the quilt center - but the more I looked at it, the more I didn't like it...

And then I was sitting on the couch, playing with my photos and I started cropping it - to see what might happen if I shrunk the border....and

Voila!!!

I liked it - so I kept going.... and I made a few boo boos because with only half a block it became directional.... My seam ripper and I had to meet a few times, but it wasn't too bad....

Ta da!!!!

The finished top!!!

I ask you tho - IS it REALLY a finish if the girls aren't in the photo???

There you go! that is the end of my BLUE RSC stitching for this month!

Blue Buckeyes - with a twist!!

I got to playing in my 5 inch squares again - I thought maybe I'd make a buckeye block or two as well. But!! then I remembered all the twists and turns this block could have so I started Twisting and this is what happened:

A new colorway - which I'm sure is not really new in the quilting world - but it is a new way for me to set these pieces.... and I am sure it has a name - but right now - its the *New Buckeye* 😆😇😆😇

And the fun thing is - If you lay them out twisted you get two different looks too.... Don't ask where this is going - I have NO idea - and maybe I Do have an idea, but I might not get to it.... so for know

I will enjoy the *new buckeye* haha!!

Blue Crumbs ( again) or is it the end???

I put a halt to my Blue Crumb block making.... there has to be more to quilting than crumbs right?

Eh?? Maybe not!!!

Anyways - I made a deadline that I could make blocks until - and Bam!!!

Look at that!!   FIFTY ONE blocks....

They all measure 8 1/2 inches - so into the Crumb Block Pile they go to marinate!!
And all that is left is:   ðŸ‘‡

I am putting them back into the crumb bin , but I am keeping it in the Light - I don't need these seeds to sprout even MORE blue crumbs  haha!! Fat chance right???

Some friends invited us to a hockey game, and Oh! my! Stars - they have front row tickets - I got the puck coming at me, the players hitting the glass in front of me - it was AWESOME!!

Look how close we were!!! I think I might like Hockey - Maybe I'll have to learn up on it!!

Alright... Back to the Blue!!

    A little Blue Crumb Quilting

Since Blue is the RSC color for February - It was time to dig into my blue scraps. Funny enough , when you take the Blues out of the scrap bin... the lid closes. Apparently I use A LOT of blue in my quilting!

I googled Blue - There is a lot out there as to what Blue means -  But I likes this one:

    "Cool, Calm and Collected:

Renowned for its composed demeanor, blue is a tranquil presence. It doesn’t intrude or pester. Instead, it merely makes itself known. In terms of the psyche, the color blue is known to impact the mind positively. Blue represents patience and understanding, which is why we feel so comfortable around it. When overwhelming emotions consume us, we’re encouraged to decompress with the color blue. It’s also commonly associated with the ocean, which further highlights its soothing essence."

Also - in my search it said that Blue Thrives on Organization. ... I wonder how stressed BLUE feels in my house - there is not a lot of organization going on this month!

I started to organize by size - and then decided it was just a better idea to start making my crumb blocks - I thought (seriously) I could get at least 10 out of the scraps....

Not really sure I have made a dent in the pile - but this is where I am as of the moment. Oh boy!!!

Blue!! Blue has a complimentary color of ORANGE

A TRIAD of Yellow and RED .. I am pondering if I want to add any of those to the mix - or stay with Blue.... its a conundrum!

Pink RSC Recap and the Start of BLUE!!!

I always like January - I am full of energy from the Christmas break, I am ready to start new projects, and I haven't let the routine set back in . It seems every January I get a lot of RSC quilts done!!

    So the first!!

My Triad Top is DONE!!! and it has a backing, and!! it is pinned and ready for the Longarm when it is free.

My Second - was my Pink Diamonds - so fun to learn there are so many names for this block! I used 5 inch squares to make the 1/2 squares and 4 patches - and guess what.... My 5 inch Pink SQUARES  were GONE!!!

I was even able to get the top put together - make a back and!! It is on the Long arm Right Smack now!!

Then to finish up the pinks - I used all the scraps I had to make 25 Crumb blocks - I am not sure what they will be - but at least they aren't crumbs anymore!!

Angela threw the February Color out there -so I had a chance to dig in the crumb bin - here is the pile of Blues I will be working with. We have a bet as to how many crumb blocks this pile will make... I am sure that Bella's guess will be right - but I said 30 and K said 45

I even had a chance to start sorting the sizes - hmmm - what will they become?

My sweet girl - She makes me laugh EVERY time!!

I think Pink Diamonds will become my 3rd Valentine Quilt - so that each kid gets one at some time in their lives. Not sure what I will do with Triad - and the crumbs... we will see..

    Enjoy your day!!

The TRIAD top, the linen closet, and my babies

Does that sound like the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe?  I don't now why that popped into my mind - but - must have to do with the Linen Closet!!

First off - My TRIAD TOP!!!

My son said it looked like Easter Exploded, my Husband said it reminded him of Confetti - so I think its name should be Easter Confetti... But I also Like the TRIAD top - haha

When I first pictured it in my head - I thought I would go - Pink in all the corners, then the Green Blue and yellow - so It would be 5 x 5 blocks. HOWEVER ---I forgot that the blocks are twice and long as the width - and it made a super weird size.... like 40 x 80 ish - Camper cot sized maybe?

Anyways - I had more fabric so I just kept going....which meant I ran out of the same fabrics - but had some in the same colorways. I personally like the pale greens versus the bright green, and I really like that Turquoise shaded lite blue, but it didn't really go with the others...

The sunlight also effects ( affects?) color - so here is in on the design wall in the evening. -- you can see the shades better. I think it was a fun one, and I enjoyed playing with the different colors, and seeing how they all go together.

PS - see the fetching dummy on the Right? Daisy wanted me to know that my photo time was up... time to fetch momma!!

And NOW!!! The Linen Closet!! It was overflowing, children have moved, beds have changed - it was time to see what I had. I had 3 sets of Twin sized sheets - there isn't a twin bed left in the house.... hmmmm - they were in great condition, so off to the Community Outreach Center. and towels - Lawsy mercy - how many towels does one really need?

     * the washcloths - yes!! I need Millions - because of allergies each of us uses a minimum of 1 a day, and when then get a little old - I use them on my dogs feet and then they make good rags to apply fly spray for the horses and then they get tossed.... Washcloths have a long life around here*

Somewhere on someone's social media I saw Quilts stored on their side - not Stacked... and a lightbulb went off - If I could Clear out the Linen closet - I could steal a shelf and try it!!

That is what the top row is - my quilts ( okay some of them, I probably have them in every closet oops) My quilts on their sides, don't you think that will make it easier to pull them out to use them for the seasons?

I wish I could remember where I saw that - I would totally give them credit - but as of now!! it works!!

And My Babies... I love them!!!

Reno man is learning SO well - K has him lunging in the round corral, changing leads when asked and turning almost well... he is still working on that .

Hope you come back Friday for Finished ( or not) Friday Link up here on the blog ;-)

PINK crumb blocks, diamond chains and oh my.... I've created a mess!

First!! it finally FINALLY started snowing - and because of that - I was *confined* to indoors. Well - not really , but it sure sounds good right?

I have too much outside to be stuck inside, but while inside... I made the best use of the time! Started Chili in the crockpot and stitched!!

PINK ! I started with the Crumb scraps in my crumb bin.

I also have a color theory Book in there. We had a speaker come and she mentioned colors, and I know I have a color wheel - so I dug that out. Did you know that The TRIAD colors to pink are Light Blue and Yellow?

An idea percolated - and off I went to dig in the stash. I found deep yellows, and mustard Yellows, but I was really looking for a pale yellow - and I found it!!!

I also found some Light Blue strips - and so....

I started playing with the TRIAD Colors - I do have an idea - I just am not sure if it will work or not, but regardless - I am plowing forward ( I just heard the snow plows go by.. it inspired my word 😆)

The Green is the COMPLEMENTARY color - and of course - two pinks - MONOCHROME....

But wait!! What is that that you see under the TRIAD blocks???

Diamond Chain blocks!!!! I always need a Leader/Ender projects going on - and last year in September I started on some from my 5 inch square box . I made quite a few, but I decided to pull the pinks out - I had 5 - and put them up...

So I dug thru my 5 inch square bin - and guess what?  I FOUND MORE PINK SQUARES... so! That became my leader ender in Pink.!

We will see how far that goes!!  ( PS - there are 4 blocks under the TRIAD block!)

A little about pink I found while Googling:

"Pink Represents compassion, Love and Nurturing. Let it guide your actions"
( I do have to make sure it doesn't guide me to a ton of NEW ufos!!)

"Pink is the color of Confidence"

"Pink is the color of Dreams and Whimsy"

    and

"Pink Reminds us to love ourselves unconditionally before seeking validation from others."

That seems to be a lot to put on PINK - but!! I like it, and its a new year - so Why Not!!!
