Rainbow Scrap / Table Scrap Challenge Pink Update

Aha! My plans are coming together - I love it when things work!

So!  Last year Quilt Diva Julie said something about making placemats for Meals on Wheels - and that just kinda sparked some thoughts....

and then!!  Joyful said - hey Join me in my Table Scraps challenge
( she said that to all of us, not just me, but you know - my blog is about me
... so I took it personal ;-)  )

It got me to thinking...
and so! I called the Senior Director in our small little town and said
When you deliver Senior Lunches....
and we made a plan
( PS - if you live in my town - keep it secret! it's not ready to let the whole cat out of the bag)

My plan!
Make Placemats for my Table Scraps challenge

and make my backings for my personal quilts
a little bigger so I can quilt these at the end of the quilt......

and try all those new patterns you want to try
and ideas you want to see if they will work

and Ta da!
three of the five  of the pink ones I have already made
are quilted
( again... binding.... story of my quilting life)

I really liked this little butterfly - it made me happy.

I'll be linking up to:

What an excellent idea! It will be fun to try some new block patterns to make the placemats and experiment with new quilting designs. I’m sure the recipients will love getting an extra surprise with their meal. Thanks for sharing!

This is a great project! You use up scraps, get to practice quilting designs and . . . you'll make some older adults very happy. Happy stitching!

Placemats at the end of extra long backings sounds like a beautifully devious plan to try out new patterns. What a great way to accomplish a good deed at the end of every quilt!

Good Morning Alycia. I love your pinwheel blocks all in pink and what a great idea to make placemats and get them quilted with your other projects. I just love the creativity of the quilting community, so many good ideas. Have a happy weekend!

My little quilt guild makes placemats for Meals on Wheels every Christmas. One side is holiday, the other side is for the rest of the year. We make 100 or more each year. We roll them up and tie them with a ribbon, like a package, for the recipients to open.
Learn faux piping binding, then you can do all of the binding by machine, and it's pretty quick.

placemats like that should cheer up some of the people that get that service for sure.

What an excellent idea, Alycia!! Adding a little extra batting and backing to your quilts will make the work even easier. Love, love, LOVE that you are turning your TABLE SCRAPS Challenge into a way to help others!

I've been making 1 placemat a month for the last 3 months and I will continue that by joining in the Table Scraps Challenge!

our quilting group at the local senior center did that a few years ago....made 150 placemats for the meals on wheels program....it was a fun group project!

I'm thinking the same thing, Alycia! Still need to contact our local Meals on Wheels people to see if they accept these here. Your pinwheels are just perfect for making pretty placemats!

What a wonderful idea. Sewing the scraps and practice of all the patterns your heart can dream of. Some folks will be very happy when they receive a beautiful placemat as well.

I like your butterfly too. I've been in a butterfly mood. And they are much nicer than yellow jackets. I don't have much good to say about them!

Fabulous idea and lovely. I love your quilted butterfly. Hope you bind by machine so it will be a little easier or maybe one of your friends would help bind for this great project.

What a great idea. I’m going to get to the point that I don’t need any more table runners. But not yet. I really like the first set’s quilting. Can you share the name?
