Holy Buckets!!! I used a lot of fabrics!! I made forty two batrillion backings for Quilts of Valor... okay just kidding - I made 7 backings. And I cut up pounds of scraps into 10 inch squares and 2 1/2 inch strips. The 10 inch squares are for our QOV Layer Cake Quilt Class in February.... but I know me, if I procrastinate..... I will be up all night the night before.....
And I count my fabric used as it is cut, especially since the backs go with some cool tops, and go out to AWESOME local Longarmers - who ROCK,... and help get these Quilts of Valor into our Veterans hands much quicker than I alone could do!!!
As far as backings go - I am about out of solid fabrics to make backings, and will have to start piecing them a lot more than before... I'll have to figure out a good way to do that..... ( suggestions are welcome!)
So for the stash report
Fabric In this Week: 0 yards ( the jelly roll i ordered hasn't shipped yet - tee hee)
Fabric in YTD: 6.5 yards
Fabric Out this week: ( ready? ) 47.65 yards
Fabric out YTD: 79.79 yards
Total Fabric busted: 73.29 yards Yay
A little note about the out fabrics - I measured the backs - cuz that was easy. But all the scraps I cut up I wieghed. I used 3.5 yards per pound, altho I think it is really closer to 4 yards per pound, but all the scraps - if they were big enough went in my string bucket, and if they were too small went in my pound puppy bag..... there is a lady in our guild who makes pillows for adult dogs....

Your numbers are great. I am in awe of the time and effort you put in to supporting our veterans. Thanks you from my dad, uncles, brother and son for the support.
You have definitely been busy. That is a LOT of fabric to use in one week.
Just curious (aka snoopy): don't toppers usually prepare backing for the quilts they send to the volunteer longarmers?
I need to make some tops so I can make some backs so I can use up some fabric like you! lol
WTG on the yardage out! And a big shout out for the great cause.
TWO batrillion?!?!? That's a lot of backings you've made! LOL
Great week of stash busting! Congrats. Now you can add a bit and have a big cushion if you need other backings you don't want to piece.
You are amazing! It's incredible to me how much you accomplish for QOV! I'm too selfish, I want keep everything for myself...
Have a great week!
Great you used so much up. For backings I always count it when the backing is made. As for piecing I used 10 1/2 squares but that takes a long time. One lady at out guild used pieces 15 inches wide x width of fabric, wide of FQ or whatever. She sewed them end to end till it was like miles long. Then if she needed a 60 wide backin she would just start cutting 60 inch pieces off of it and sew them together. That might work for you since so much of yours are red/white and blues.
Excellent stash-busting! I can only aim at your productivity. 18 yds out this week for me, which is pretty good. I am going to count when fabric is sewn into a quilt top, back, or other project.
Well, your challenge to do at least 12 QOVs in the year seems to be more do-able since I am getting ready to quilt #2 and #3 and my friend is sending me another top to quilt in a week or two. I am spending the afternoon cutting my red/white/ and blue scraps for the next round of tops. Still, I do not go through fabric like you. Keep up the great work and know that what you do is very important.
Awesome week! The work you do for QOV is so impressive!
Great busting!! I am quilting for QOV too, but the 2 that I have finished in January had backings included. I have several more in house, though without backa. That's when my numbers will go up! Too bad we don't count batting on stash reports, because no one provides that. You are amazing with what you've accomplished so far this year. You inspired me to try for 12 QOV in 2012 too.
