Okay - so this (above) is my Chunky Churndash top from the QOV SEW ALONG 1. I did decide to make 2 tops with it - and this one is 54 x 64 with the little borders on it. My question - is it okay like that? Or does it need something else? What?

The more I stare at it the more I really like it just as it is.... but.... am I being lazy? Does it need another border??? You tell me ( please) I am running low on chocolate and caffiene at this moment...
These Chunky Churndash Top's are one's my Mom made. I like the one with the flag in the center. She is getting pretty creative in her quilting - Go mom!

I would have to say yes, it does. There's something not quite right to my eye when I see a quilt with just a skinny outer border. But, that's just my opinion... :-)
I'm thinking it needs something, but can't put my finger on it. Somewhere to rest the eyes, maybe? A chunky solid-color border?
I think it needs a red border, maybe 4 or 5 inch.
Alycia, after squinting my eyes at the picture, I go with JoAnne's recommendation for a red border. Perhaps a nice Moda-type red with a little detail or different shades of red in it? As always, you are an inspiration to us!
I like it the way it is! I don't think every quilt needs a border.
If it was mine, I would put 2 more borders on it. First a narrow (1-2 inch) dark, and wider light (5-6 in), or maybe the other way around. LIght or dark first, I'd have to audition several - dark blue, red, and then a khacki/tan wider?
I am not a fancy border person, I tend to be lazy and not jsut because of lack of caffine and chocolate. I do think it needs something brighter around the outer edge. May be a real skinny white border with a wider red border to finish it up.
Alycia, I also thinks it needs a wider outer border. I go along with a red border - somewhere to rest the eyes.
At first I was liking it the way it is, but I think I would also have to go with an additional border - maybe in a red print that reads solid or RWB print. Depends on what you have in your stash....and how much time you have.....LOL.
If it were at my house, I would probably call it good-to-go and get it finished up!
JMHO....and you know how those are!

2" of white 4" of red (or what ever proportion will match your blue border. go same and then either double or same +1/2 cw
I'm afraid I agree with a narrow white/tan then an wide red. I see a trend here.

It is beautiful, but With all the corners and all pointing out I think it needs somewhere to go. Another boarder would take it that one step and if wider would give it all somewhere to go. I am thinking red, maybe with a white small pattern. Give the whole think a stopping point.
Thanks for asking
I think a little wider darker TOT blue border would be a nice frame around the churn dashes. Yes, just a place to rest your eyes. Although I love RED it would draw your eye away from the blocks--which are lovely!
i think it looks "not quite finished"...and i'm going to agree with the skinny white/cream then wider red border idea.
I think this top could use a wide border of the light tan from the center. This would allow the narrow dark border to push the eyes view back to the lovely center blocks.
