Tale of Two Pigs...

aka *Farmin with the Carmins*

I started watching this show called "Farmer wants a Wife" or something like that... only - none of the bachelors are Farmers - they are Ranchers and Horse Trainers....which may not make a difference to the rest of the world... but it does to me!!

Farmers grow crops, Ranchers grow animals - and yes you can do both and be both... but!! I have an opinion - and now you know it haha!

All that to say ... in one of the episodes - one of the girls vying for the Farmers heart says to the camera - I am just not seeing any sign of affection - he is not showing me he is interested. This!   After they had been working outside all day, and he helped each girl to the *event* they were supposed to do.

 

I promptly turned to my husband and said - Thank you for my Pig House - and he laughed. Outward signs of affection for Farmers and Ranchers don't come in the form of flowers very often!! Now check out my super cool piggie house!!!!

That is a sign of pure love for a cattle man!!

Which the timing was awesome - as we got flooded...  (see Lake Carmin there!)

We have done Pigs before - but I have not done them alone - My son raised the last group of pigs and I just did what he said.  Well!! My Little Buddy ( pic below) is an FFA Student and a pig Farmer. For his FFA project he has started up a Pig Feed/Supply Business FTK Feeds ( on Facebook)  I hope that link works!

Anyways - I called him and told him about my pigs and asked him what to add to the feed... So he and his mom came out to talk with me. They also helped me worm them and he educated me more about them.

Ps - Check out what mom is holding... oh ya!! you don't visit here often without seeing something that has to go home with you!!!

Now if you want to know what I am feeding and experimenting with ... you'll have to ask - because I could bore you!

Keeping the Pig Pen dry has been a chore..... but check out their fancy new straw.... they are Happy Pigs!!

and Cam and Mitch got a new friend!! This is Lily!! She is a tiny little calf!! She weighed just under 400 pounds coming to me, so she has some eating to do !!

Cam really feels that he should be a model - so he was posing for you. He wanted you to see him in Black and White -as its his vintage look

My son is home for a bit - and we are working on the roof of our shed... so we were joking that I should start a new series called Farmin' with the Carmins... so here you go - Tales of Two Pigs... might be updating haha!!  ( even tho we consider ourselves ranchers hahahaha!!)

The Tale of Two pigs ( pt2)

 Good Morning from the Ranch...

Milkshake would like you to know.. that she!! Is just as important as those tiny creatures we all ohhed and awwed over..... she is not a fan of them!!!

But aren't they so cute all snuggled in their straw home!!!

This is what greets me each morning - aren't they so cute!!!

Oh well, and I introduced them to marsh mellows - so you know - they expect one EACH morning, and if I don't bring them one.... they are very vocal about it!!!

Just so you know - Pigs have teeth - so I am very careful as to how I give them their marshmellows!!!

Because we don't really have a permanent pig set up - and we didn't expect the snow and wind to keep coming - even in APRIL!!! Their straw home is temporary.  AS soon as we get consistently warm weather - their real house will be moved in!

So I read them a story - one about all the different kind of pig houses....

 and I am not sure they understood...

Cuz Cam and Mitch - well they huffed and they puffed and they are gnawing their house down!!!

See how they are attacking that bottom bale.... Stinkers!!! ( PS It has been replaced now... I am a great house builder!)

This is Cam eating his Morning Marshmellow.... its a little challenging to hold the marshmellow and the camera !!!

Mitch... oh Mitchy... he has figured out digging in the dirt...

Back to Milkshake.... she is all worn out from watching them... either that or she thinks if she ignored them they will go away!!!

The Tale of Two Pigs

Once upon a time I went shopping... Of course, it was at a sale barn where the most amazing animals showed up. And I fell in love and I had to buy something!!!

I mean - you are there, they are there.... kinda of like fabric shopping - you can't go into a fabric store without getting a little something right??

and so... I got Something.. times TWO!!!

Here they come!!!! ( Notice the snow on the roof on the top right?)

We loaded them up and took them home. Now here's the thing with Pigs - they are not fans of cold, and the temps dropped from like 50 to almost 20 by the time we got home, so I hooked a heat lamp up in the trailer as soon as I got stopped to warm them up...

and got them a little water. Travel makes them thirsty!!

Now they are all warmed up and ready to go to their new home....but they weren't sure about leaving the trailer...

but then they saw their new home!!

and they got all excited !! I mean I read them the Big Bad Wolf story and they thought the Straw house sounded the best... they knew they were safe from wolves here, and they knew they could burrow in the straw.. things were looking up!!

The Pigs Arrive

Good Day all - I am Pig 1...  I came from the farm just over the hill.  I am a Crossbreed.  Farmer Boy and his Mom came to my farm first. They talk a LOT!!  Farmer Boy got in the pen with us, and we chased him. We tried to eat him. He moved way to fast.

He and his Dad came back later with a white thing, and they put me in it - and drove me to their place:

The gate was opened.... and Out I ran... Look!!! Dirt!!!  Hmmmm this could be fun. At my old house.... there wasn't any of this good stuff!!

Check out that HUGE pig!  He has a funny nose, and he keeps lookin' at me.... Glad he can't get in to MY dirt!

Good Afternoon - I am Pig 2 !  I am a Chester White pig, and I don't have to share my crate with ANYONE... it was cool!

Farmer Boy and his mom lifted my crate into another home. I was a little scared. This brown stuff didn't exist in my old house. I wonder if it is safe?

Ahhhh My house is rising.... I guess I will get out and explore.

Ahh!!! A HUGE pig!! A strange looking pig!! I am glad he can't get too close to me !!

Oh look - there is another pig in my pen. We will be great friends! And we will keep that Huge Pig out of our area. We will gang up against him!!  Look! We speak the same language.

And we will share water and food, and we will be friends.  Hey wait! He is getting more of the water than I am!!! Mooooommmmm he's drinking my water!!

Oh Look!!! Our Barn.  Pig 1 and I have a nice warm barn to be in. This is good. I hear there is more snow coming!! We pigs are anti-snow!!

Hope you all enjoyed meeting us! We are going to be great friends - I can already tell.

Pigs in Space...... or not

If you remember last year about this time my Little Bit got renamed Farmer Boy by his pig. He had such a great time raising his pig, although he wasn't so pleased with the ending.

He has decided to try his hand at raising more pigs this year, and has decided that he would like to raise two........ oh boy...

Our dear neighbors ( who REALLY helped us last year) raise pigs, and they had some baby piglets. We headed over to their farm first for a little shopping:

Oh my - were these piggies cute!! Farmer boy wanted them all!  He was allowed to choose one. 

Then we headed over to another farm. They were having a huge sale.You get to preview the pigs and you have a little cheat sheet about the pigs.  And then the fun starts. Pigs are brought into the sale ring and you bid on them.

Farmer Boy really wanted a Chester White - just like Pig.....

After the auction - we went home and had dinner ;-)

Tales from the Pig - the Final Edition

Day 2 at the fair.....

First off, this pig show thing is quite tiring for a pig like me! I am used to hanging with the horses, having my quiet time, resting in the shade.... this fair building keeps me from my beauty sleep. We pigs we make a LOT of noise.

It sure was fun to meet other pigs though.

I am glad I had my own pen, I don't think I could have curled up like that.  Show day saw us showing once in the morning, and having 2 more in the afternoon.

This is A - She and her dad were the Breeders that own my Momma... that's not my Momma though....

Here I am - I am so cool - right???  This show was with pigs the same weight as me. We are all different breeds. Please don't ask me what the breeds are.... one of them looked like oreos.... yummmmm

I tried to stand out.... or maybe run away. There was just SO much to see!

 And then it was time for a break. I got a little snack, a little water, and little spritzing... I was a SuperStar!

Then - we were back in the ring.... look - a buddy!! I think she tried to kiss me - Blech!!

There's my girl again!!!  This was her last year in 4-H, and she won all sorts of stuff - she rocked it!

I have to tell you, I think Farmer Boy was a little overwhelmed with all of the pigs. He kept losing me, or maybe I was losing him. It was pure crazyness and denim from my level.....

Tada - there is Farmer Boy with our awards.  We won 8th and 4th place. It was really fun.

Tales from the Pig

Hello , My Name is Pig - and I am a Breed.

Farmer Boy and his dad got up really Really really early and came to see me. If you remember from my last story.... they had washed me clean and made me a new bed of shavings and so I was sleeping in my RedNeck House.

Anyways - it was SUPER early - I wasn't even hungry yet - can you believe it????

They drove me to the fair! We got there and I think...I heard Farmer Boy say it was crazy!! Tons of others were in line in there Red Neck Houses too. We waited in line, and then this guy ( Farmer Boy called him a Vet) looked in my house, and checked me out.

I strutted... I mean seriously - if your going to look in, I had better Look GOOOOOD! right?

Then I had to go on that scale thing again. Seriously? this weight obsession - its getting out of hand - seriously...  but I "made weight".  That's what the tall guy said. I said if they gave me marshmallows I could have made a smile too... but no one listened!

They herded me down to a new pen, and put new shavings in, and I burrowed!!

Later that day I got to go to the wash pens... these are too cool!! You can run around and they can chase you with the green thing that spews water. I got all handsome for .....

The "Breed Show"

 Did you know I was a breed?  This is a show that the Weld Country Swine Breeder Association Sponsors. And if your Breeder is registered with this association - you can show....so there I was!

Here's me and Farmer Boy - waiting to get in. I got a little bored and kinda, sorta ran out the gate and down the pig pens first. There was a lot of new faces! I had friends.. but Wrangler Man and Farmer boy brought me back ( as well as two strange men)

Here I am in the Show ring (again) - I am getting good at this.

The Judge is in the Blue Shirt - so I give him my best view... my Butt.... okay - not really . I look better from the side!

 Check this out -to get back to my new pen I get to twist and turn down these alleys - and there are PEOPLE everywhere.... I could have ran over as many of them as I wanted.

Well - that's it for today. I had to go eat, and get some rest. The next day I had a TON of shows. Everyone wanted to see how beautiful I am!!  See ya soon!!!!
