I am singing the Blues....

But not really because I don't think I know how to sing the blues.... More like I am quilting the blues....

I pulled all of my Blue 5 inch squares out and got them on their dinner plate.... and then I started sewing some  twosies.... I think I will be pairing them with white for this months Lightning quilt

But I also started something new... Its the BQ4 pattern - and I have to tell you, The directions are a little tough for me to understand - I think I have read them about 10 times now - and they are coming along... but boy oh boy - did I wonder what I had gotten myself into....

Shew - glad to get to the RSC Blues ( linked to So Scrappy) Before the end of the month!!!

It's frustrating when quilting instructions are not written well but often those quilts turn out to be favorites. Happy stitching!

I haven't even started the blues and missed the pink also

You've got a great start on stitching the blues this month.

I hope those instructions continue to make sense for the rest of the project. I like your first block!

I really like how that new block looks, but totally understand. Some instructions just are not written in a way my brain works. LOL

I have re-written more quilt patterns than a few to make sense of them my way. Clearly you are not alone!

I've grabbed blue fabrics -- ready to be cut. But I also made 2 blocks and put away a couple of blues. (My goal is the putting away part!)

I hate frustrating directions. It does look good so I hope you are able to keep your wits about you working it out!

It's always so fun to pull out the new color of the month, and see what you have! I'll enjoy seeing your blue quilt come together. And that new block is an interesting one, too! Glad you're figuring it out.

There are times I think my brain is broke because sometimes words make no sense. And then I read somewhere it's a thing for women after menopause. Yay, aren't we lucky to lose our brains as we age! LOL.

Your post title has me humming the oldie "Singing the Blues: by Guy Mitchell! I had never heard of the BQ10 quilt till I saw your mention of it. I found a pattern for it, and it looks complicated - good luck with it.

Those shadow-box designs are deceptive! It's easy to get a unit mis-pieced. Love the assortment of blue fabric that you've pulled for the quilt.

Just LOOKING at that pattern makes me say no way!! Yikes, good luck gettin' it done.

I made a BQ quilt several years ago. I don't remember that it was particularly difficult, but maybe it's like childbirth! You forget the hard part so your ready to do it again!!LOL. So far your block looks great!

Good job on the BQ4! I've had patterns where I scratch my head and wonder what am I NOT understanding. Maybe pair your 5 inch blues with orange then orange will be the RSC July 2024 color...LOL! You seem to be able to predict the next month's color this year :)

Unfortunately some directions are hard to understand, but I am confident you will get it all figured out! Love the blues and pairing with white will make a great lightening quilt! Thanks for sharing with us at Monday Musings!

Great BLUES for the RSC, Alycia! Sorry to hear about your trouble with that BQ pattern. Those used to be all the rage with my Quilt Bee! I guess our group engineer figured out all of the questionable instructions, as I don't recall anyone complaining about any of them.
