Around the Ranch Day 1

Do you ever take photos with the intent of showing them and then forget?
I laugh, as I run about my day - sometimes I see strange things - other times not, but with my handy dandy cell phone I am always taking photos...

and deleting them....
But today!
You get to be my guinea pigs - or my captive audience!!

We process our beef at a place east of us, and every time I drive in - he has Peacocks - and one of them got high and mighty when I was pulling in = I thought you'd like to see him!!

This bugger ... is Houdini!!! Houdini can almost escape from any corral/pasture. And one day I decided to hide behind the hay to see how he did it! I even videoed him and showed it to my husband later - it was hilarious!! My gate latches have a safety tab on the end, you flip it and then the bolt can't come out.

He rubs the latch and FLIPS it!!!!  Then he licks the handle until the bolt starts to move.

So!!! I tied Twine around the gates as well - so if he got the latch open the gate was still tied...

Stinker ! LICKED the twine and could untie my bow!

Now it has a heavy duty chain... he has stayed in his appropriate pasture !  ( I probably just jinxed telling you!)

I am not a good gardener... That is all K's department!! but I looked in his garden to see what was growing and this tomato had a wind block.... now.... I have to say - If you could grow wine flavored tomatos.... I might be a better gardener!!

This is Red... Red is Houdini's look out man! He makes sure the coast is clear before they pull the twine and escape!   Red has been warned.... so now - he wants you to know that this is his feed pan... and his only

This Spring we added to the Horse Population.
We love her, and she is totally becoming one with us, but we were a little nervous at first - she is 16 but hasn't been ridden in the last 12 years. So she is a 16 year old Colt!! and we started training from the very beginning again....

When we went to get her she hadn't been in a trailer for 10 years - so she wasn't real sure she wanted to get in. K coaxed her, we tried to bribe her, and in the end, we kinda used a butt rope ( you put a rope behind her, as well as having someone up front with her) and she got in the trailer.   We got her in, closed the gate and drove home.  Opened the Trailer door and she was IN THE SAME EXACT position we left her... it made me giggle.

She is such a sweetie and really tries hard. K has ridden her about 10 times now - she's coming a long.

And just to prove I am a quilter.... I made a diamond quilt with my trailer tracks....

At the end of the day, we have been making a point to sit out on the deck and try to cool down a bit .... with sunsets like these... its a great place to be!
I have more to share... be ware!!!

Thank you for sharing bits of your life Alycia, a lifestyle so different from my own. I’ve always admired the folks that farm and ranch, although I don’t necessarily envy the hard work! Your anticdote about the peacock cracked my up. Makes one give serious thought to the intelligence of animals! Good luck with your new horse. She’s a beauty, and lucky to have you.

We had a horse years ago that could open gates and latches on barn doors. She was an ornery buckskin. Very smart.
