Ha ha - Just kidding...
My firstborn child has gone on to grad school.... and my second born.... is packing - PACKING!!! why!!!!
So this post - is all about Big Bit.....
He left us.... yep - he is moving on to other things. So He and his Dad drove out to DC, and I flew ( i got the better end of that deal) and met them there.
Just so you know - his Dad ( Wrangler Man) does exist.
I realized I write a lot about me - but he is there too ;-)
After the initial move in we headed out to find food.
and see a few sights.
and me with only my cell phone
ACKKK how did they do that to me!
No matter what tho
Our Nations Monuments are pretty amazing
This was me on my way to my Forest Gump moment
- Yep - I can still embarrass my kid!! - Ha ha
My attempt at a Pano shot of the WWII Memorial - seeing things at night is pretty cool
and the White house...
And the Metro - I tell you I am just fascinated by these things... that you get everywhere without driving, and in just a short amount of time....
And then.... Wrangler Man Flew home.... and I drove..... 29 ish hours of driving.....
And just so you know - I need to take geography all over again... I stayed in Indiana with some friends and then headed west the next morning. I called home, and WM says - you should be in Illinois soon.... and I laughed.
No honey, I said, I am heading to Missouri! Not Illinois I told him, and he said, yes dear - but you have to get though Illinois first..... Oh. Well... I am glad you told me, as I would have probably stopped and thought I was lost.
When I got home - There was this:

I'm with you. So is that your homework, studying the map
I always get the orientation of IN and IL mixed up, so don't feel bad.
Congrats to both sons, and if it makes you feel better, I'm known as "wrong way Becky." I feel your pain😉.
Funny! When you visit Virginia again you are always welcome to come visit the Richmond area for a few days! I'll make sure you don't get lost.
DC is a very interesting place isn't it? Took our kids when they were Jr. High area, loved it. Heading to Missiouri Star are you?? That's a long drive by yourself, kudos to you!
I love your post! Wonderful story and great photos....
Is he studying politics? He's young so he'll have a great time. I was born in MD, my grandma lived in DC, I lived in VA (DC metro area) 3 yrs as an adult and never did like it. But there IS lots to see out there!
that is so funny. Thx for the great photos. Best wishes adjusting to life with both sons gone. mary in Az
Excellent post -- thanks for sharing the photo of WM!
Goodness, he is so far away from home. Boy that's hard. Glad you made it back safely. Very brave of you to travel so far.
Your post made me smile. Always depend on your GPS? The photos were beautiful, even if they are from your cell phone. I think some of the cell phone cameras are better than some digital cameras! 29 hours of time to reflect on changes - sounds like a good cushion between dropping your son at the university, and picking up life again with your sons not in and out all the time. George Mason U! I'm impressed. He must be a great student!
Next time you fly out here, maybe I can drive up to meet you for lunch. We could probably even find a quilt shop!!
My nephew just graduated from George Mason with his BSN. Love D.C., growing up in VA and with family still living in the area I've visited often although it's been a couple years now ... time for another visit.
I'm never good with those middle states, and by middle I mean between New Jersey and California. I smiled when you said out to DC, we go down to DC and out to Colorado! lol! Big Bit may be in DC bit one thing for sure, he'll never forget his way home!
Geography is pretty cool; if you look at the cream peninsula of Canada that is at the west end of Lake Erie below most of Michigan, that is where I live! As far south as you can go in Canada, and south of several US states, the only place in Canada where you go north to get to the US... southwestern Ontario ;-) It IS hard yet exciting to have the last one spread their wings. Some great shots of DC!
A lot of people get confused with all the middle of the country states. Wishing Big Bit the best of luck in grad school.
