Pig Catching

One of the things that you could do at the fair through 4H was the Catch it Program. And Little Bit... he really really wanted a pig. So he signed up for the Catch It program....

Are you ready for the play by play?   Little Bit is the one in the Blue shirt looking over the fence. We really thought they were going to catch pigs, but at the last minute - they turned goats and sheep out....

Here is is - on the left end, looking around to see the judge say go....
The fair royalty showed up to move the livestock to the other end....

And then there was the go ( see the guy at the right with his hands up?) All the kids took off running, little bit hung back a bit to check out the scene - then he was OFF!

Speed demon.... zeroed in on a goat!!

And Shazamm - he reached in and grabbed the goat from between all this huge sheep. I think he made a very wise choice, those sheep were not in the mood to be touched!

Now he is dragging his goat ( or maybe the goat was pulling him) to the trailer

He is getting closer to the trailer.....

And Ta - Da - he is the proud kiddo getting his goat to the finish line.

Course - look at him now - there was nothing to that right?  just relaxing and watching others.
Looks like come spring we will be the proud new owners of a pig, and will learn all about them. The first thing we have learned is that you can not have just one.... *sigh*

So pigs are like potato chips? You can't have just one.

I believe he's going to be a veterinarian or perhaps a farmer? Oh my, I can't wait to hear the pig stories. LOL

At the Houston Rodeo (which is HUGE) they always have the 'calf scramble' where there are more kids than calves and it's held int he center rink of Reliant Stadium. It's our favorite event as the kids scramble all over the place and are dirty and exhausted and frequently calfless at the end. Catch a calf, drag him into the center ring, and get your 4H calf for free this year! We just love it and I love knowing it's done in Colorado, too!

I think if you treat your pig like a dog and let it in the house, you can only have one. So, have two pigs outside, or one indoor pig :)

At Best Friends in Kanab, UT you can adopt a pig to keep you new piglet company. Unless, of course, your plans are to either sell the pig at the 4H auction or eat him.

My granddaughter and I will be spending a week volunteering at Best Friends and will be staying in a cottage where we can have a piggy sleep over. The pig comes with her backpack, sleeping tent, food, etc. We are so excited for the opportunity to have this experience with a pig.

From what I have read pigs are very smart and clean animals.

Congrats to Lil' Bit.
