Lyons Outdoor Quilt Show

Today was such a great day!!
I got to spend the morning with one of my favorite groups of Veterans - I met a 97 year old Veteran who was in WWII - He was part of the first daytime attack on Tokyo in a B29 Bomber ... and way more! He told us his story and I wished I had a tape recorder ( and no - I did not think of the video camera on my phone!! Ugh!)

Then we drove up the canyon to the Lyons Outdoor Quilt show - this is the second year they have hosted this.  Last year - I was transporting a kid to law school so I was forgiven for not attending.

but THIS YEAR - I was there!!

This was me being all artsy - capturing the collage quilt and the quilt store name ( after being on Facebook I was not the only one that thought this way ha ha)

This is from the road.
I was in the car heading to the gas station - so wasn't impeding traffic

I just loved this one
It just called me -
but then so did the other 99 quilts

My husband sorta agreed with me
If we took all of them home
and displayed them a week or two at a time
then returned them - the owners would be okay with that right??

 Check out this jeep one
I may need to do a pattern search for it
It was too cool!

This was fun
A couple of the docents were talking about the speakers their guild was ( were) having
and they said Alycia Carmin is coming in November and I said - that's me

So she went and gathered more guild members
and I got to meet the NICEST quilters!!

And now I know some of the members for when I go speak
at the Longmont Quilt Guild in November

PS - that's me with my new friends

and then - we might have had to make a run up the mountain to the chocolate factory
Cuz who can live without chocolate??

Berthoud Outdoor Quilt show

On saturday there was an Outdoor Quilt show in Berthoud CO - so I dragged my husband, with the promise of a Rootbeer Float from A&W, and we headed over!

This one was made by my fellow Quilter Sharon
its so cool!

Below
Nice modern Twist eh>

I think she called the one above - a Wonky Irish Chain
The man next to me said maybe she was drinking Irish Coffee when she was quilting
That got a lot of laughs
But now I want to make one!!

And of course
Cheddar!!
(Below)

There weren't as many quilts as I remember from the last time I went ( about 9 years ago), so that was sad to me - since it is a great location. I put it on my calendar for next year, Maybe I can convince all my quilty friends to put a quilt in???

Remembering Quilt Con

The second Quilt Con is happening now in Austin.... and I am sure everyone is feasting their eyes on all the quilty Gorgeousness that is there...... and having a grand time.

I am here - in Colorado this year - and while I miss the smell of the fabrics, the headyness of the Quilty goodness.... I am glad to be home, in my little creative space.

Being the little camera dragger that I am though - I thought I would share some of my photos from the First Quilt Con - and give you a little glimpse of what was there.... while we are awaiting photos of what is there now ...  ( you got that right? That was a looooong sentence!)

So there you go - a small sample of what was there!!! And if you are at Quilt Con this year - share your photos!!

QuiltCon

Is anyone heading to QuiltCon?

Anyone?

Anyone?

(okay - we just watched Ferris Bueller - so you know, ask that in that cranky teachers voice!)

I will be at QuiltCon!!!

Come and see me, I will be in booth 308, not wearing red, orange, or any other bright color - so that when I turn bright red, it won't be as obvious.... *sigh*

But I am excited!! I will try to share photos here and on my facebook page... I really will -

Excitement ... and a problem

So.... many of you have ever been to Houston? To the International Quilt Festival?

My excitement comes with the fact that I. GET. TO. GO.!!!!  I am so excited. now, I do have to work - but that's perfectly okay - I LOVE who I get to work for!!

Now with this excitement comes a conundrum.... are you ready to dig in and help me?  Okay - here goes - I am a mom of 3 boys.... I live in the middle of nowhere with lots of dirt, I only go to town once a week.... so my um... wardrobe? Ya - I think that's what we will call it, consists of Jeans, dirty Jeans, Sweatshirts, and T Shirts.  I think I may have a pair of Black pantsish type trousers, but even those are denim....

What does one wear to an International Quilt Festival? And to work.....

Oh!! Do you want to know where I will be? I will be in the Modern Quilts Unlimited Booth!!!  Come and See me!!! Booth 1832... yep - that's where I will be!!

So all of you who have been there - fill me in!!! What to wear, what to take, what to see, how to find my plane..just kidding about that..but it has been 7 years since I went ANYWHERE by myself!!  ( my kid have reminded me of this a lot today!!)

Here I am - so you know what I look like... COME SEE ME!!! Check out the new Magazine!!!

A Judge!

I have been asked to be a Celebrity Judge for the Annual Firehouse Quilts Quilt show..... so get your quilts in to this show. I was asked to judge it last year too, and oh my , that was the toughest job ever!!!

And they had real quilt judges do the placings - but choosing my quilt was a big job.

Go To http://www.firehousequilts.org/ and look at the requirements and the easy way they have set up to enter the show.

Then send in the eye candy!!! And if you are in this area - mark your calendars and come to the show!!

It is the 15th and 16th of July this year!

Quilt A Fair

CQC is the State Quilt guild, and they are VERY active. Every year in September they hold Quilt A Fair, and lots of vendors show up, and they hang a Quilt Show from the rafters.  I had three quilts hanging - one was my Remembering George quilt...
http://alyciaquilts.blogspot.com/2010/06/quilters-accountability-week-22.html

I went on Friday, hoping that it wouldn't be as crowded as it would be on Saturday - well - that was a laugh! I still managed to find a few things I needed to have in my Quilting Stash....

This little kit is a Cat in the Hat kit. We purchased it, as a lady was saying - I can't buy that, I don't have any little kids in the house. The boys and I were standing right there. We said - we don't either, but we are buying it!

We all LOVE Dr Suess! And one of the boys thinks this should be his next fair quilt..... ( a fight may be on!!!)
These fabrics were purchased in the bundle. I wasn't really looking for fabrics like this, and I don't know that they are colors I would normally purchase. But I did, so maybe my tastes are changing. I even came home and wrote up a pattern for it RIGHT AWAY!! Maybe you will be seeing this in the near future. I do not want to add to the stash......

I saw this moose quilt hanging up and it reminded me of my dad. Not that he will be seeing a quilt like this any time soon, unless he comes to see the pattern. But it is on my list of somedays...

And last but definitely not least - a cool book. This is written by Judy L of http://www.patchworktimes.com/   Of course, her premise is that you can sew these in a weekend... she has apparently never seen me sew.... but the patterns - Ohh laa laa. There were 3 that I want to start right away.

Seriouly, she writes these patterns so well, normal quilters probably could sew them in the time she says.

It was a great time, and I enjoyed seeing all the new things out there, as well as quilty friends. Now I just want everyone to go to bed so I can sew........

A mini Quilt show for you

I have some more great Quilts of Valor that have arrived for you to look at. I thought maybe some of you were looking for some inspiration, or maybe a chance to sit down and rest. I am all for the rest part today. Seems like when you get up every weekday morning at 5am, its too hard to sleep in on the weekends! At least today I tried, but alas - not happenin'
`
So the first 4 Quilts of Valor that I am showing you today come from the First Lutheran Quilters in Ault CO.

These Ladies meet monthly and sew at the church. They make quite a lot of quilts for various causes.

The next three Quilts of Valor come from Rona in MO. Her quilts were peiced from her stash, and the backing was donated from Machine Quilters Exposition http://www.mqxshow.com/ . Her husband was a Navy Seabee, and this is her way of saying thanks to those that are in the services now. Thanks Rona!!

If you will notice - the first two are Not So Top Secret Projects ( pattern can be found in the side bar) and the third one is made with some leftover blocks and other blocks she created.

And the last four quilts for todays quilt show are from the Northwest Surbaban Quilt Guild in Arlington Heights IL. This group is AMAZINGLY prolific!!!

And that's it for today. Hope you enjoyed seeing what all these marvelous quilters have made. And maybe got a little inspiration and relaxation too!!!

Longmont Quilt Show

Last weekend was the Longmont Quilt show at the Boulder County Fairgrounds - in Barn A - which I couldn't find until the nice man said " See that barn with an A on it?" Huh- you mean you are supposed to read signs???
~

It was a very nice show - their guild had a lot of awesome quilters. And Jeananne Wright was there doing talks on Bedturning and antique quilts. She had some on display. Oh my! She said she has probably over 600 quilts. So for those you say you don't need any more - this is proof that THEY ARE WRONG!!! You always need another quilt!

~
Two of the Three boys went with me, because they think I will get lost or come home with too much fabric if they don't, and Wrangler Man thinks they can keep my in line.... Just kidding! The show was kind of slow first thing in the morning - till everyone had their morning coffee. About 10 am it was a rocking and a rolling.... so what do 2 boys do until people are there?

~

In the afternoon I sent my middle child out with the camera - and he got some great shots of the quilts.... and he said I could share them with you.... so here ya go:
~
The first one is a watercolor quilt with applique's on it. The lady that made it sat next to us for a while. She was very very nice.
~
The Stars one with the Red and White stripes is a Buggy Barn Pattern - K thought that would make a great Quilt of Valor.

This dog one was too funny - there is a corn dog, a hot dog, a bird dog! Too cute!
I am off to a science Magic show - and then football. So when we get home tonite we will draw the winner of the scraps - and spend the weekend tallying up the votes... and testing them. The scrap pile has grown quite a bit, cuz I spent more time sewing this week then quilting. Must have needed it... especially if I wanted to find my cutting table again.....
~
See ya tomorrow!
