State Coordinator QOV's and !! Finished ( or not) Friday!

Happy Friday!!

Remember the QOV's my group was making for the SC? Well!! they are quilted, and will be heading to the next person to get the binding on - so yay!! We should be able to get these to her in April for all her awards!! Whoot Whoot!!

Are you ready?

I used a different panto on each one of them - so there were a few difference - Two of them have red centered blocks... and one of them the borders go on the opposite sides.... they needed som differentian right???

I am excited to have these done, I fit them in , in between client quilts - so it always feels like a big check mark has been made on my to -do list  when they are all done!!

I always tell myself that I do not have UFO's - but - I needed to pick up after my dogs and their tail wags hit a stack of blocks in my sewing area.

Guess what?

I had a UFO ( or 2)

and I had some PIGS ( or 2)

and I had some strings... I am now all sorted, and I got all the UFO's in the appropriate bucket so I can whittle them down.

I just need some Whittling time now ha!!!

I am glad the Dogs tail wagged, but I am sad that it wagged, it proved to me that I am not as organized as I think I am,.,. Oh boy!!  I also changed out a quilt or tow - hoping to cause a rain ( or snow) - it didn't work....

Now it is all up to you!! What did you get finished this week? What did you get worked on?

The LAYOUT

You have now made ALL of the blocks – it is time to lay out the inside of the quilt (we will do the final borders in the next step!)

Here is the Layout –

I then stitch them in rows, and then stitch the rows together. I know there Are fold that can web them and that is a great way too !!

Wyoming in the Winter? or Spring?

The weather has been so topsy turvy all over - does anyone know what season we are really in?

I got an email from a fellow QOV'er who has been QOV'ing since 2010... and she has decided to pursue other interests. But she wondered if my group would be interested in her stash.

Of course! What a stash she had!! We will have a lot of fun with it.

There were Quilt Kits, Yardage, panels, Quilt Binding (I feel like she made this binding just for me!!)

Oh the Blues Bin... what lovely Blues

And the reds!! and there was a bin of whites/creams as well. Oh and some finished quilts! and a few ready to quilt - it was quite fun looking through it all!

A Super Shout out to Ms. Nancy at Wyoming Breezes!!  Thank you!!!

Since we were in Wyoming... it was time to take the girls on a little trip too:

Then we made the stop at McDonalds- the girls do like a good burger haha!! They think they like this travel stuff.

See you tomorrow for the next step in the Winter QOV QAL!!

Week 4 of the 2026 WINTER QOV Quilt a Long

You do see the light at the end of the tunnel right? A few have already finished and I love them!!

Lets Dive in:

Week 4 of The Winter 2026 Quilts of Valor Quilt a Long

 By Quiltygirl©

Quilt Size: 60 x 76 inches

This week we are making SIX White Stars with a BLUE Background and SIX White Stars with a RED Background; Each star is 8 ½ inches

There are so MANY ways to make these stars – I had fun trying both ways, but this week I am doing them with the Easy Angle and Companion angle. Strips are my friends

If you have not used this method before – Bonnie Hunter has a great Tutorial

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6f6XIpd0Uk

WHITE:

·         Cut12 : 4 ½ inch squares (Center of the star)

·         Cut 48 PAIRS of wings –

o   I cut 4 – 2 ½ inch WOF strips and used my easy angle to cut the pairs

PRETEND THE FABRIC IS WHITE!! I didn’t take Photos

 BLUE
: PRETEND THE PHOTO IS OF BLUE

·         Cut 24 : 2 ½ inch Squares (for the corners)

·         Cut 24 : Geese

I used 2:  2 ½ inch WOF strips to get the geese – this is also in the same tutorial as above.

RED:  PRETEND THE PHOTO IS OF RED

·         Cut 24 : 2 ½ inch Squares (for the corners)

·         Cut 24 : Geese  :

If your doing it this way – here are all your pieces:

Make 6 Sets for 4 Flying Geese Units: FOR EACH COLOR!!!

Each Flying Goose will measure 2 ½ x 4 ½ inches. I did trim mine – I had very little to trim, but I like to check just to make sure.

Then lay them out like so:

and stitch together:

I stitch them like a 9 patch – into three units, then press and nestle the seams. I try really hard to press to the dark, but What I really want is a Flat unit. So that being said – have fun! Haha

You will be making 6 of these units In BLUE and 6 in RED – for a total of 12 Stars

You can also make them the 4 at a time flying geese way –

Here are a few other tutorials:

Try making them the Four at a Time Method using Amy SmartsTutorial

Or Quilting JetGirls: Four at a time tutorial

You are wanting to make the star in an 8 ½ inch unfinished, or 8 in finished size

And you will end up with 6 White Stars with the Blue background and 6 White stars with the RED background

And even MORE Quilts of Valor

We also had a group sew day with my Local QOV group. I think you could say I was dreaming in Red White and Blue.....

Our State Coordinator (I retired from that position 3 years ago now - that went fast!) Is going to do some special presentations with this QOV panel that was made for our 250th year ( as a country! not QOV)

Each group got one of the panels, and she asked if we would consider making the QOV for her presentations. We said sure - and promptly were sent two more panels... so GO US!! we have made three.

I am working on getting these Top Three Quilted before our next sew day so I can bribe Someone to add the binding - and then we will get them off to our SC

We also got the frame for one more done, Connie made all of these blocks, and Denise put the frame together.

I have a lot of panels - so will add the panel and borders - and Bam!!

Another one will be made !

Also - Friday - WE FINALLY GOT SNOW!! Isn't it so pretty!!!

Bella girl had a blast - and she chased the others and they got soaked, and dirty, and muddy!!
And there were NO complaints from us!

We also needed a snow man

Its back to 60deg today - but!! There was SNOW!!

Fireworks!! and Finished ( or not) Friday

I was invited to be the Speaker for the League of Northern Colorado Quilt Guild in Loveland. Before the presentation they hosted a sew day and I brought a million block kits to make FIREWORKS!!! ( formerly known as JR18HHS3)

They stitched, I annoyed, and!!

It was fun to see the different layout ideas for these blocks.

We also got a TON of blocks stitched - I came home with a stack - so even more quilts will be coming out of this sew day.

If you are in NoCo - they are a great guild. Such fun people, and so supportive of the community

This last week sort of got away from me - The weekend was all awesome - but!! it kept me away from the computer.

Saturday (I Know! LAST Saturday) I got to Award 10 Quilts of Valor to more amazing Veterans. I just love these folks - 178 Vets were there to witness the *wrapping*

Sunday found me cutting and re-writing my presentation, and choosing the quilts to show, and stressing that I would bore people - so I was afraid of my computer.

I had been cutting block kits for the Guild Sew day, but I started thinking - what happens if I run out???? so I cut more, and then I panicked and thought - I bet everyone of them sews faster that me... I should cut more... So I did....

And now - They stitched a ton, but I actually have a few kits left over. I am going to look at that as PRE PREP for my next QOV sew day... right???

Anyways - How was your week? What did you get Finished ( or not)?
