This is a really really good memory.
I was asked to present a Quilt of Valor to a Veteran living in a Veterans Home.
I have to be honest, I think I fell in Love with him. He was the sweetest, most kindest man, and all he wanted to do was tell stories of his service. ( my favorite thing EVER) .
So my husband and I turned what was supposed to be a 30 minute visit into dinner with him, and then... Ice Cream Sundaes - because if you can't eat ice cream.. what kinda day is it? ( my Vet's words, and ones that I have come to believe in as well)
And when his daughter sent me these photos, I fell in love a little more. Can you see the joy and just plain happiness in his eyes?
Oh to live a life of that kind of happiness. I adored him.

What a wonderful memory and a beautiful picture! The quilt is just spectacular! I totally agree with eating ice cream; Friday and Saturdays are my ice cream days!
Thanks for sharing that sweet story, Alycia! What does Rancher Man think about you being in love with another man??? :P
What a great true story. Quilt open doors and people's lives. So grateful to be a quilter. Thanks for sharing.
This is the goal of making these quilts, isn't it?! The smile on his face says it all!
What a joy you must have been to him as well! <3
How fun was that! You are so lucky to have met him.
Thank your sharing. It's a wonderful thing that you do this.
What a great visit! I love to hear the stories. I wish my grandfather's had told me some of their stories (one was in WWI & WW2).
Wonderful that you and your husband could spend a longer time for a very special visit and presentation. I feel blessed to be a quilter that has a part in honoring those who have served our country. Thank you for all you do for QOV.
He does look like a dear man, how wonderful you were able to spend time with him. And he has the quilt to hold onto that memory of you.
Thanks for the smile today!
What you do for QOV is really special! And being a good listener is also wonderful! He has another memory to recite now and it's a good one.
What a beautiful quilt and beautiful memory you have to remember. It feels so good to make someone else feel appreciated. Great work!
