Yesterday late afternoon I got an alert on my phone - Tornado warning - take shelter. Of course, I texted my husband first ( working in the basement) and asked if he got one, he said no - but there is a cell by Denver.
So I went back to work, and then the skies got a little darker. I got up and went to the window and Bam!!
This was dropping out of the sky! I ran back in and got my camera - and watched it!!
I took a ton of Cell phone photos - and my husband took this one thru his binoculars!
At first then news said it was coming straight at us, so we let horses out, and moved stuff that could fly (like the trim I had been painting) but it started to dissipate - and the actual storm cell moved north, North east - towards Cheyenne.... But those people on the ground..
As soon as I finish chores ( okay really playing on the computer - I rode and did all my morning chores.... I just wanted to sound important) I'll turn on the news to see what other damage there was...

When that came on the news, the first thing I thought was 'I hope that's not close to Alycia!!'. And yikes, it was. Too close for comfort anyway. We got those more when we lived in OKC but still get too many here. They are scary what they can do!! Glad you were far enough away.
My daughter lives in Erie, CO and sent me a photo that looked like yours. It looked to close for comfort for me!! I was a little unnerved also, knowing it was that close to her. From what I read, it sounded like not alot of damage. I enjoy your blog and have done several of your mysteries.

Yikes!!! How terrifying, yet wonderful to have the opportunity to view a tornado at such close range, as it is being born, and then (thankfully) moved out of your way and dissipated. Your pictures are fantastic! We’re the horses freaked out?
That last picture looks like a giant octopus descending from out of the sky!

Oh my word! I didn’t know you had tornados in your neck of the woods! Hope there wasn’t much property damage and loss of life! That funnel cloud looks huge! Great pictures though! My husband was in a tornado when he was at work about 20 years ago. He said it sounded like a freight train! It peeled the roof off the building but no one was hurt!
Glad you are okay---tornadoes are terrifying; we have water-spouts here which are much smaller and don't seem to cause as much damage---they come with hurricanes---they are a lot of wind and rain but usually in just one direction. Awesome pics---maybe you should join the storm-chasers! Just kidding.
I have never, ever seen a tornado like that. My grandson said it was an upside down tornado. It is scary to think what is happening on the ground. We never get tornados around here, thank goodness. Awesome photos.
Wow those are impressive photos! Hope no one was hurt in it. I'm so jealous. I'm a weather geek and my wish has always been to see in person and photograph a tornado. I did see one when we lived in Edmond, OK, but it was rain wrapped and I didn't realize it was a funnel until I heard about the damage later. It's amazing you can see so far.
You got some amazing pictures! We watched and listened to Kyle Clark and Marshall Zelinger debate the issue about the Alerts! Some got them, some did not! Sounds like you can relate to that. I’m glad you didn’t sustain any damage! That one of the tallest tornado/land spout I’ve ever seen!

Being up on a hill for you gives you a great vantage point. The sky sure did get dark. Just for the remarks who don't live in CO. Weld County has the highest rate in the COUNTRY for tornadoes, and Adams county just south is 2nd. My mother is 87 and grew up north of Denver and in the 40's they saw 5 tornadoes in one day. She said they watched and then ran to the basement. The damage the news is now showing is amazing. So thankful no one was hurt, or worse.
Sounds like Nebraska. Tornado sirens go off and we all run outside to see where it is. Way back in the late 70s or early 80s we watched a cloud rotating practically on top of us. Huge. If it had dropped down our whole town would have been kindling. We did go to the basement when someone realized there was a tornado on top of us and turned the siren on. I just had to finish grilling the steak for supper before going down there.
So glad it missed you. Hope it didn't do any damage where it hit. Amazing photos.
