Design Wall 1/30/12

Saturday was our Colorado Quilt Council meeting, and I went, and the speaker was Lois Hallock. She has written a book about organizing your quilt room, and making it ergonomically correct. I came home with lots of ideas, and frustrations.... I wanted to organize right then!!! And finish everything I had out.... so Sunday afternoon, I finally got to it... sort of... and now I can never buy fabric again *sigh*

Okay not really, pick yourself up!! Its okay - I will buy more, its in my DNA....  LOL

I reorganized my piles... there are only two in open containers, the rest are in zip lock bags. I think this will help keep the dust off, ( and in the summer the millers). Lois has you put them in these really cool boxes, but I didn't have any of those, and I live too far from town ( and had no energy) to go and search... so this will have to work.... plus I am not spending any more money,..... so I am saving it for fabrics!!!!

These are my Works in Progress.... Animal quilt, Layer cake quilt, an mystery to you quilt, and the Mystery over at persimmon quilts.com.... I actually worked on each one for a tiny bit tonite!!!

And if I touch them that keeps them as Works in Progress right???

And finally!!!! My design Wall..... These blocks are made from the cut off ends of the Pineapple Quilt   I am thinking that this will be a table runner.... I only have 12 9 inch blocks....

Hope you can keep up with the organizational tips....I like the leftover blocks. Good to make them into something right away.

My favorite colors on these blocks.

Organization in one's sewing room/area is important enough to spend time doing... tho it's not fun... esp when you find you have more fabric than you thought you did.... and it's something I need to do again as things seem to be creating stacks and piles on their own lately... *lol*

Checked out Lois Hallock's website and book... very interesting! Thanks for the tip...

Good progress on the organization! My projects live in bags too and it is working really well for me. That's great you were able to get a little more done on each project. Love your leftover blocks!

Wait just one minute!!!! This can not be possible for such a prolific quilter. Is that really all the fabric you have or is it just your floor piles? I need to know what I am doing wrong if it is all you have. lol

I love organization. I can even get organized. I just can't stay organized. But I am always willing to learn a new plan (anything but not buying more fabric).

I want to reoganize, until I make a start and realize just how hopeless it is. One day (actually it would take a week I'm sure) I'll follow your lead.

Very pretty "left overs". They will make a great table runner.

Haha!! I've said that very same thing before ... and didn't mean it any more than you did! A runner out of your leftover blocks will be fun -- I love the color combination!!! :)

I took a class from her and was inspired - unfortunately I still need to put many of the ideas in place.

Love your left overs!

Hum, I brought in a friend to help organize... it worked. She kept me going all day and I was exhausted when finished but much better organized and I wasn't too badly org. to begin with. I too keep some of my projects in ziplock bags. But, they are the ones I am NOT currently working on. Projects I'm working on or am going to be working on go in plastic boxes. I've been buying flat (2 to 4" high) 13 x 13 boxes (guessing on the sizes) that actually have handles. I love them... except the 2 that fell and chipped and cracked although they are still usable until the totally fall apart! Easier to carry than the rubber maid boxes I use to use to hold my fabric. Now the big deal is to keep the space straightened up and clean. You don't have enough ufos... maybe I should send you one or two.... LOL

"I reorganized my piles." :) My husband does that when he says he's cleaning out the garages. Yes, garages. He has a little trouble getting rid of things.
