Layer Cake Loop finish!! and!! Finished! (or not) Friday!!!

 My Layer Cake Loop top has hit is FINISHED!! stage for me!!!

I wasn't 100% sure where it was destined to go when I started it, but!!! I know that we have a backlog of need for Quilts of Valor in other states ( Colorado is doing pretty well yay!!)  ... and so!

It will go in the to be bound pile for our Sew day ... Binding is our October theme  and then I will find a state that needs it!!!

One of our QOV Members requested a quilt for her father in another state, and found out it would be quite a while as they were filling requests in the order they recieved them ( totally makes sense)  and her Father was way down there.

So we cheated - we made him a quilt and contacted that state coordinator to see if she would be willing to take our quilt and award it. She was!!!  and the award happened ,.... 

But since we jumped the line - I thought it would be nice if we could send her a quilt or two to help get there Veterans Covered.

But I did not cut the Layer cakes down - I re did the math so I used a Whole piece and built around that.. so Mine is 60 x 75 ish....

Layer Cake Loop - the Top

 Remember my Layer Cake Quilt... its the pattern called Layer Cake Loop from the Fat quarter shop - but I made an adjustment!  I tried to do it without cutting down the Layer cake - and now....

It is a top!!!

And photographing said top on a breezy day was a challenge!!!

Instead of yelling at the wind... I just took photos from all different angles!!!

I see a marathon quilting session in my future haha!

On another note - have any of you seen that show Swedish Death Cleaning ( its on Peacock I think)?

I have been watching it as I sort thru my parents things - but it made me feel the need to really clean - so I started in my room... and then went to the younger sons room, then the older sons room... and I kept finding things and sending them photos .. and then they would laugh and say - Mom you are the one that made me save that... pass it on.

Between my parents things and those things - I think I have made a batrillion trips to the ARC, the Bargain Box and the ReStore.... and I have way more to go!

We were sorta of laughing at ourselves - when we moved out here all those years ago - everything K and I owned fit in our horse trailer.  We are now on the 2nd load of things from my parents house...... and there's still more to go. I am halfway sorting as we are loading - and halfway waiting to sort at my house... weird I know - but its turning out easier for me to do it this way.

I have this book and I am done with it - the back says $27.95 - but for the first person that says they want this book I will send it to you for postage.... USPS says $10.... so lets go with that - you can Venmo or paypal it - Because my comments are moderated - I will look for the first one that says I WILL TAKE THE Book - and leaves me a way to contact them ;-)

Layer Cake Loop from FQS... sort of

I might have been dilly dallying - or procrastinating - or hiding from the 4 thousand 3 hundred and 62 million days of rain....But!!! I found a free pattern at Fat Quarter Shop called Layer Cake Loop - and I thought... hey... I have layer cakes... or at least I have a bucket of 10 inch squares.....

And so I downloaded the pattern..... FQS Layer Cake Loop pattern

Then the rain stopped ,so I went back to quilting. ( oh yes - the rain has been accompanied by Lightening - so I turn my Long Arm off for that)

But as I was quilting - I was pondering.... for the LCL you CUT every piece...... and I thought - well I wonder if I can do it without cutting a LOT.... 

and I DID IT!!!! So each of my blocks measured 14 1/2 inches... I didn't cut down the layer cakes to the 8 1/2 like they suggested... but my blocks still looked this theirs!!!  GO me!! No Scraps!!!

So I figured out how to make 20 blocks and I think I used 34 ( or maybe 35) Layer cake squares... and Ta Da!!!

This is what is up on my design wall.... and I keep moving blocks around..

 

And moving them around more..... and sooner or later - I will get them into a top!!

but I get sidetracked... Look who came to say Hi!!!!

And she heard a rumor that a NEW MYSTERY QUILT 4 MILITARY might be in the works.....

Maybe to start somewhere in the month of August..... and it is a fun one...
