Plaid # 8 - and the first QOV step

My February Goal for ALYOF and for me (grin) was to finish Plaid #8.  And - I am glad to say that I did!!!  I quilted the heck out of it - for fun and to try a new pattern.

Here it is:

Of course I used a purple plaid backing. The fabrics in the top are shirtings - but this is a flannel-ish type fabric.  It washed up super soft.

So - are you stitching along with the Quilt of Valor?   So far the

The Fabric has been posted:    http://alyciaquilts.blogspot.com/2015/02/quilts-of-valor-2015-and-fabric.html

The Cutting Instructions:   http://alyciaquilts.blogspot.com/2015/02/cutting-instructions-stars-and-stripes.html

And now we will start on the stitching. In my head - each step should take about 1 hour, or less - as most of you truly sew quicker than I.

Block Number 1:

We will be making 24 Star blocks - this is the first step in getting them ready.

They will measure 9 ½ inches unfinished.

I do everything in bulk so that when I am ready to assemble to block all the pieces are ready.

Grab your 48 – 4 inch White Squares.

Quilts of Valor 2015 and Fabric Requirements

I am not sure where to start this morning.... with smiles, with quilts, with the up and coming events.... with chocolate or Dr Pepper....... oh boy.... my head is just spinning!!

Alright - decision made - let's look at some Quilts of Valor first. We, in Colorado, have some standing destinations that we make sure we cover our Veterans at. This number varies per month - but on average it is 60 quilts per month.... then we work with a lot of other venues, and seasonal groups - and that can make the number jump to way high!!

All that to say that I am always Extremely grateful for all of the Quilters that help make sure these Veterans are shown the love.  These quilts make such a HUGE difference - I can't even begin to tell you.  Last week I was at a venue, and you all - I was so emotional when I left. I don't even know how to pass on the gratitude that these Veterans had for our quilts, and for acknowledging them.  I took all the hugs and I am passing them on to you!  *POOF*  did you feel their hugs???

Huggs

and smiles

Colorado - as well as other coordinators - are in need of Finished Quilts - ready to be presented to our Veterans ...  so over the next week or two - I am going to post the steps for a really cool - beginner friendly Quilt of Valor. I hope that you will check back each day for the next step - and join in. And I hope you will like the quilt.

It will finish at 63 x 81 inches ... ready to go gather your fabrics?

You will need:

Red:  7/8 of a yard
White: 2 1/2 yards
and
Blue:  2 yards

This does NOT include backing or Binding. I will probably bind mine with the Blue - so I would add an additional 1/2 yard to that.

I will put the cutting instructions up tomorrow - hope you come back??

Pink Plaid Sticks on the Plains in the Snow

Sort of..... I guess the snow is on the Plains, but the Pink Plaid Sticks is warm in the house.

I have had so many awesome comments , and direct emails about this quilt top . So many of you wanted to know how I did it....

So.... here is how.. I sat down at my machine and I stitched, and I looked up and the dog was barking, so I headed outside to see why, and I found a horse in my front yard. I took the horse back to the large pasture he was supposed to live in and I came back in the house and I stitched some more , and then I .....

Wait?  That is NOT what you were talking about?

Tee hee - I decided that my thought process is better put into pictures - so I created a pattern ( ish) for you and I loaded it in my Craftsy pattern store .... For Free..... so you could print it out and see the way my poor brain works.

I don't think there are any pictures of the horse in my front yard though - I'll save those for another day:

Pink Plaid Sticks

I wasn't sure if this should be called Pink Plaid ( aka Plaid #9)  or if it should be Sticks 3 - since I made it in the fashion of Sticks and Sticks 2   - Usually I name quilts and then I sort of forget what their names are anyways....  and I make up a new name..... sort of like I do with people. ( sigh)

without further ado..... here is Pink Plaid Sticks...

And remember all the fabrics I cut up?  Yep.... I still have a lot left, so they are next to my machine and I'll keep stitching on them - maybe make a whole nother 2 or 3 quilts.....

Oh - and I made scraps.... anyone interested? lol!!

Remembering Quilt Con

The second Quilt Con is happening now in Austin.... and I am sure everyone is feasting their eyes on all the quilty Gorgeousness that is there...... and having a grand time.

I am here - in Colorado this year - and while I miss the smell of the fabrics, the headyness of the Quilty goodness.... I am glad to be home, in my little creative space.

Being the little camera dragger that I am though - I thought I would share some of my photos from the First Quilt Con - and give you a little glimpse of what was there.... while we are awaiting photos of what is there now ...  ( you got that right? That was a looooong sentence!)

So there you go - a small sample of what was there!!! And if you are at Quilt Con this year - share your photos!!
