Indigo

So for the Monochromatic challenge over at patchworktimes.com the color for june is Indigo - here is my question ... which of these fabric piles would you think is more Indigo.  I have my opinion - but I have doubts and wavers too.

Option 1

Option 2

Thanks in advance for your help in this all consuming matter!!

#2 looks more indigo to me. #1 seems more towards the purple spectrum.

#2. If you google images indigo, they will match with the second choice.

#2 looks more like it to me. I'm also struggling with this color!

#2 is closer to Indigo. but a true indigo is much darker.
and it bleeds alot!!
your fabrics will be fine.

#2 is closer to Indigo. I agree with Roma that the Indigo fabrics that I have seen are a darker blue, but those are definitely in the same color family.

#1 looks purple to me.

I always think of indigo as a dark blue/black color. Neither of your piles look like that color to me, but I guess if you took the two brighter blues out of #2, that would be as close as you get. Good luck!

#2 especially the darker tones.

Such PRETTY fabrics!!!!

Ditto...#2 is more indigo, BUT (my Libra nature coming through) I would ditch the lighter blues from that group and bring in the darker fabrics from group 1 :-)
And remember, Judy says there are no quilt police for this project!

I agree with everyone else, while true indigo's are darker your second pile would work just fine.

we were discussing this at quilt meeting last night, I am torn between going with a dark purple or dark blue and calling it good (in a hundred years who is going to know anyway-lol)

I might just subsitute Navy and move on.

both of your groups look great btw

If you believe wiki, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indigo then definitely the second one.

Indigo to me = dark blue. Partly b/c the blue indigo plant blooms blue, I guess.

Ditto. Although I envision indigo as a darker, blacker blue. But #2 is good enough for the challenge. I don't think Judy will disqualify you with either choice!

Like everyone else, I think #2. For mine I am going to go with mostly dark blues but a splash of purple thrown in. If the quilt police aren't looking anyway, why not? :)

It's unanimous...#2! What are you making?!?!

Viki said...

#1 is purple
#2 is indigo

but there are no quilt police here, so feel free to interpret "indigo" to be what ever color you want!!

mmm, neither of them look like Indigo to me. I thought Indigo had an 'older' or 'aged' look, maybe with slight threads of white or threads of darker blue/black occasionally, but definitely more repro appearing.

Indigo is a very dark blue, seen in lots of Asian quilts. If I had to say what it looked like, I would say navy blue.

Do a 'search' on indigo fabrics and you'll see that it is quite dark.

Hi Alycia... I work with color all day long (photography-- used a palette to paint on photos before photoshop)... #2 is closer to indigo, although indigo is actually, a deep purplish blue to a dark grayish-blue. It can sometimes be taken for a very cark blue with a purple tinge to it.

Indigo is whatever color you have in your stash! teehee! Unless you really feel a need to shop for more.

I vote for option #2 Alycia
