Bloggers Quilt Festival - Scrappy Quilts

This is my Entry for the Scrappy Quilt Category.... although sometimes I wonder if the quilts made from the scraps of these scraps will get done lol!

So... This is my Plaid Quilt. It is a Jacob's ladder pattern, I used the Floribunda instructions from Bonnie Hunter at Quiltville.com

It is called Better with Cheddar

It started out as a Jacobs Ladder Quilt a Long - and then everyone else finished theirs and I was still going,,,,,

And then one day - I had 4 plaid projects in motion - so I thought I had better finish one.... a girl has to feel accomplished somehow!!

And now! It is done!! and I am still working on the others

Go check out all the other entries in the scrap quilt category

Better with Cheddar

Yep!! That is the name of a quilt...Better with Cheddar   is FINISHED to the top stage.... and is too big for my design wall - but I Love it anyways!!

This was started as a Quilt A Long with Impera Magna  back in 2011 - with a Jacobs Ladder pattern from Quiltville.com   ..... There's were in floral - me - always the rebel - did plaids.

And then I put it away after only so many blocks.... please do  not ask why - I have no good reason....

I got it back out in May - when I entered my "plaid phase"    ( of which I am still in!)

And last night I FINALLY got the last border on. I have no clue what size it is - I forgot to measure  maybe 66 x 76 ish???
My boys are the little hands holding the quilt up for me. They asked if it really counts as finished since it is not quilted. I told them if they wanted Ice Cream, they would just GO. WITH. IT.

They were good......

Ta da!!!   It is a TOP!!!

I need a Plaid Intervention

It all started with Pulling out My Jacobs Ladder plaid quilt.... this was started in October of 2011 - Impera Magna says so.... she did this as a quilt a long, and I had to join in! But I am going to sort of blame her, she didn't put a due date on it....  ( just kidding...sort of)

When I pulled it out, I found a whole bucket load of plaids under the original blocks...

And then! Judy had a Quilt a Long  and I thought PLAIDS!!! I can do this in plaid.... I have half the blocks done.

And then!!! My Heartstrings group decided to do a brown centered block and I though PLAIDS!!   I have 24 blocks completely finished, and 24 are 1/2 way done.

And then!!  I was cutting 2 inch strips for my idea for a border for the Jacobs Ladder, and I read about Amy wanting to do another pineapple blossom quilt  ( a Bonnie Hunter design).... and I thought PLAIDS!!!  I now have all my centers cut, and a pile of plaid string.... oh boy

Does it sort of look like a plaid fabric store threw up on my cutting table?  Seriously.... A Plaid Intervention may be necessary... because this morning - after I was done Long-Arming for the morning... I found....

ANOTHER BAG OF PLAID FABRICS  .... and they are yummy!!!

Jacobs Ladder

Saturday was my son's graduation party, we stayed up way to late, and then had to be up and out the door at 5:15 am Sunday to go work a Triathlon. The oldest lifeguarded it, I helped the swimmers out, the other three helped the wetsuits come off. Then we went and helped at the finish line....

SO! after a short little nap on Sunday - I dug into my Jacobs ladder!!

ALL the blocks are finally done - and the one that had the boo boo is now fixed. I even have one row sewn all together now!

I think I even know what I am going to do for a border.... sort of... don't want to get too far ahead of myself - right?

My son LOVES Donuts! I have to eat Gluten Free  - so we ordered a million donuts from the store for his party - and my middle son made me a Gluten Free Chocolate donut ;-)  He even decorated it!

And of course - the graduate! For those of you who told me I am too young to be the mom of this kid - yes I totally agree with you!!!

Check out his hamburger.... he actually ate the whole thing!!!
Some of you have asked what this is - it is a chocolate frosted donut, hamburger, and another frosted donut..... his idea of heaven ..

Jacob's Ladder

I have now entered what is called the *Plaid Phase*  and you will not believe how much plaid I have....

Maybe I should call it the Phase of Plaid?  Anyways I have been cutting up a lot of it!

Full Confession - I started these blocks a little bit ago...because a girl can never have too many projects.... and then the last time I worked on it I got a few more blocks done.....

A good reason to love design walls - if you look at it enough times you may see the boo boo....

I also started some string blocks. Our Heartstrings group is doing a Memorial Day Weekend sew along - and using brown strings in the center, and what ever you want for the rest. So i thought !!!! PLAID!!!

As the sow poke in the group I thought if I started now - I might have a good number of blocks by then!  Oh!! And yesterday was the first Sunday of my Happiness Project  that included sewing 1 hour a day. I woke up determined, and I told the boys I HAD to sew... and they LET me, no problem.

After I got my one ( or a little more) hour in I was such a happy camper - not much bothered me.....

Design Wall and Orca Bay progress

Not as much sewing got done as I had wished, but we sure had a lot of fun this week. Two of the boys and I got to go Ice Skating, we all got to go swimming, and there was some snow - so there was some sledding....

Hot chocolate is really the best way to enjoy ice skating. The boys really skated, I went around a few times, then decided I needed a hot beverage ;-)

See our snow weeds?  The wind blew the tumble weeds and before we had a chance to remove them - the snow came - gotta LOVE winter!!!

Here is some of the progress of Clue #3 Orca Bay - going on over at http://www.quiltville.com/
This is the 120 blocks I finished Friday Night. I was determined to get *something* done!

And proving I didn't give up - more strips!

There's 10 more ironed and 50 waiting to go, but I got tired, and the couch called my name..

See the sledding? Wrangler Man had a few fences to check, so the boys volunteered to go help. I think the boys had a plan in mind, because I have NEVER seen them volunteer so quickly to do work before.... They must have had this sledding planned!

As I got ready to lay out my Jacobs Ladder for my design floor - I met with some resistance. Something had taken over my design floor... they are tough to move!

So here are my 6 Jacobs Ladder blocks done - for the Quilt a long Going on over at
http://imperamagna.blogspot.com/   maybe next week I can have them all layed out and see how many I have made.

Design Wall Monday and JAL

It rained!!! And it was a horrible Cold rain, and so I decided that Sunday I was going to drop all plans and play!!!

So I did!! The Empress ( http://imperamagna.blogspot.com/) is hosting a Quilt a Long  and I thought i would join in!  On my stash report from yesterday I told you I got some Moda Cheddar... and here is what I am doing with it.   I was going to use a yellow, but I think I like the Cheddar much better. I hope it blends with all the plaids.

And of course, I might not lay them out like this - but this is what I have done so far, and a lot more cut up!

This is my son and I - he had homecoming this week, he was royalty, and was so busy - but when we went to take pictures with the girls - I got in on one....I am officially average in our house.....
