My adult had a birthday - and we all know he LOVES Dinosaurs. - So he needed a Dinosaur quilt for his birthday.
We found this super cool pattern called Marching Band by Atkinson Designs. In the instructions, it says to pay attention to the pieces on one of the blocks, as it is directional...and guess what? I did pay attention, just not the right attention - and ALL my blocks were backwards.
I then decided that if I made the second block backwards I could probably fix it - and as I was thinking of this... I had an Ah ha moment.
What if I took a photo of the pattern and turned it around in my phone?
And that WORKED!!
It is the complete opposite direction of the pattern that she wrote - and I will pay MUCH better attention when Teri says to pay attention - but!! HE LOVES it!! It is a fun pattern and I love the way she writes her instructions, they make such sense to me.
( Now to make a back and quilt it before his next birthday)
That's him and his Puppy...
So what have you been up to this week? Did your cattle go on walkabout - and you spent hours reminding them of where they live?
Did you get some great time in the sewing room?

Of course he loved the quilt, how could he not? Have a blessed Easter!
What a neat quilt! Glad you adult liked it. Love the photo of him and his puppy.
Sometimes it feels like the cattle have gone walkabout even when there are no cattle, lol! (You know, like getting your ducks in a row!) Hope yours are all back where they belong. That is a neat quilt design, and your son looks pleased as can be with it! Happy Friday, Alycia!
No cattle on walk abouts here, lol! We’ve had a lovely week at our cabin in CA visiting my dad & sister. We did get socked in by fog one day, the whole day, making it rather spooky, 😅.
What a fun dino quilt, even if those critters are backwards. Obviously your son likes it no matter what.
When we farmed (back in 70s-80s) we had cattle and a LOT of sheep. We had a border collie who would watch 700+ sheep go on "walkabout". But as soon as the last one escaped she would take off and round them all up to bring them back. We figured it was a game she played.
I would never know the quilt is backwards from the pattern. Looks great and like he's happy with the birthday gift. :)
luckily no cattle left (or approached) the yard LOL
beautiful quilt gift and recipient seems quite happy with it and the new puppy. LOVE puppies!

So the cows decided the grass was greener on the other side of the fence did they? I hope you convinced them home was the better choice! The birthday adult looks smitten with his quilt top. Kudos to you. I wouldn't have know the layout was different from the pattern. We can keep that between ourselves!
No sewing this week...gheez. I love the quilt and the man with it is so happy! It is nice when our sons appreciate the quilts Mom makes them. I know mine always does!
I love that quilt pattern. I'm also happy to report that I didn't have any wandering cattle this week! Just deer eating everything I try to plant.
You can see he loves his dino quilt!
Here in the UK Spring lamb is traditional but VERY expensive. It's funny how dogs like to muscle in on photos. Two handsome fellows.
Love the photo of your son, beaming with his new quilt, (great idea to flip the image on your phone !) and I love that he wanted a dinosaur quilt. It's the best when family asks us to make them quilted stuff! Yes, cows in the field next to the school where we walked dogs yesterday, but not on a walkabout, though strange to see them so close, but that's small towns for ya! Good to see Daisy doing Daisy things. :-)
Happy birthday, Little Bit! What a fun quilt your mom is making for you. We are making rack of lamb for Easter dinner. I've steaks and chops, but this is the first time I done a rack. Here's hoping it turns out as tasty!
What a wonderful quilt! I love diagonal designs. And I love that some adults never outgrow their love of dinosaurs!
I used her pattern and ended up super sizing it somehow. My nephew was in the U of Michigan marching band, so I made it blue and maize blocks and called it "UM Marching Band". I think your dinosaurs are great for this too! No cattle checking at our house.
Hi Alycia, that's a great quilt top. It looks like your gift was a success....hope for your son that you get it quilted soon :-)
Great dinosaur quilt top--I caught the bit about having it done before his next b'day! lol
