Star and Crown - a QOV in the making

We had Pat Speth come to our guild ( via zoom) and do a presentation. SHE WAS AWESOME!!

But she also renewed my love for 5 inch squares and their ability to be amazing!!

The next Sunday was our QOV sew day - and I was entranced by the quilt she presented called Star and Crown  ( Link to pattern here)

That!!! is what the group stitched on!!

These are the blocks that we got done!!! We had one booboo - in that a red star got made - but I am starting to think that maybe that would be cool in the border?

I am still quite a few blocks short - so will keep making them as my leader enders - and see what I come up with!!!

We also awarded 2 Quilts of Valor at our Sew day - and got to meet the most amazing service dog. He was SPOT ON with his person. That is so cool to see!

Pretty sure my sweet babies are disqualified from service Bwah hahaha!!!

I think a red star amongst the blue stars would be interesting too. Thanks for the link to the pattern. Looking forward to seeing what you do with the Star and Crown blocks.

That is a striking QOV design. Stars are so pretty - along or alternated with a secondary block.

Love your quilt designs. Did you award the service dog a quilt too?

I think the red star definitely has potential for an outer border. Have a great week!

Oh, what fun to 'meet' Pat Speth. Your QOV is great--the common fabric adds good continuity. I know the presentations are as meaningful to you as they are to the recipients. Have a good week!

Love the blocks the group made! Nothing makes me happier than seeing veterans wrapped in QOVs.

I have 3 of Pat Speth's books and did an in person workshop with her MANY many years ago. We even did an exchange of 5 inch blocks. I still have a small stack of those fabrics lingering in my box. I made at least one quilt of hers but did not finish the separate pattern I started. I think you quilt of valor will be wonderful and appreciated.

What about putting the red one in the backing? I always love making both sides fun! Nothing beats the classic red/white (or ivory)! Lookin' good!

This is looking great, Alycia. I think the red stars would look great for the border. Your babies are adorable. Thanks for sharing with us at Monday Musings!
