I have been inspired by Cathy's use of Orphan blocks, so I decided to dig into my bag. The only difference is - she has orphans in all these great colors - I have orphans in Patriotics....
Now don't get me wrong - I love Patriotics - but what I had envisioned happening ( you know - being like her) just didn't pan out that way with all one color scheme haha!
And so - I made a change. I have a stack of really cool panels - and I thought maybe I would pull one of those, and see what orphans I can use to build around it!
Here is where I am:
I think I will try to start filling the blanks up and see how many more rows I need to add to make sure it is a 60 x 80 inch size.
I haven't been inspired to start new things lately - so maybe this is a new start for me!
With Fall coming we had to do Summer clean up - and we still have more to clean up before snow can come. After quilting client quilts ( yay for a real job) and spending the rest of the time on the ranch - its night when I come in. I didn't have any projects in motion to just sit down and stitch for a little - so I knitted... which is good, but not the same as quilting.
I had even ( gasp) put some of my scraps away when we had company - and hadn't drug them back out yet. Maybe I will remedy that too.
Happy Stitching you all!!

You've got a pretty start with that panel. Now you are inspiring me to look again at my orphan blocks. Mine are all different colors, so maybe a panel is the way to go.
Would you believe the last several nights I have been unraveling a skein? I really messed it up trying to find the end, and I had to fight it to the last few inches but finally finished last night! Now I'm going to tame it into a scarf. ;)
Ooo, liking the looks of that so far!! I don't think I have any cool patriotic blocks like that but that's a great idea for panels. Might have to give that a try.
Great idea; this will be great! I have done a few like this too from orphan blocks plus loads and loads of coping strips! It feels SO good to home those orphans.
I think the orphan blocks with the panel is a great idea! It looks good! This is a busy time at a ranch; well, busier than usual!
This is a great blend of orphan blocks and panels. it will be a stunning quilt, and look totally planned. Great choice.
Totally a great idea to use your orphan blocks around a panel. I'm looking forward to seeing how you will finish it off. Keep on working on it.
I think working around a central panel is a great idea. I look forward to seeing where this goes for you!
It's a good start. Your orphans look great with the eagle.
Very promising start, Alycia. I like where this is going.
Oh how fantastic your orphan blocks look hanging out together. Love that they are different sizes. Such a fabulous centre panel. Gosh, this quilt is going to be wonderful.
That's going to be a spectacular quilt, Alycia!
They aren't 'orphan' blocks. They are 'sampler' blocks. Does that make them more manageable? I would save the panel for another project. (I have the same one.) Either way, they will turn into something wonderful.
Ive been working with my mother's leftover bits and pieces. She would cut a lot of pieces for a project---over-cut---and then there would be so many left-overs---I'm taming them bit by bit and finishing up some of her nearly done projects. AND working on my onw half-done projects. PUtting a bunch of un-related blocks together is not easy---but all your patriotic blocks look great together. You could put some gold strips in to make the rows come out to be the right size.
Your orphan blocks look great with the panel, keep going girl. You'll come up with a great quilt and have a wonderful sense of satisfaction using some orphans. Happy stitching!
Fabulous plan for the patriotic orphan blocks. I look forward to seeing it come all together.
Looking forward to seeing this when it is finished. With the red, white and blue, everything goes together very well. I don't think I have any orphan blocks.....I will have to think about this. I sure have lots of UFOs, but when they are finished, there is not usually any blocks left over. You are fortunate that yours are all in one color scheme, as that makes it easier to combine them.
great idea for orphan blocks! looking forward to see how this one all comes together!
This is a great idea and looks great! I am sure it will turn out just awesome!. What color are you thinking about for the stripping? Looking forward to seeing your progress!.

It looks fabulous Alycia. I finally donated all my r/w/b orphan blocks to QOV a month ago, along with a lot of fabric. Still have tons of fabric left, though! For your next quilt plan.
Oh,what a wonderful idea!
